The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that it is issuing an emergency order to ban all Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone devices from air transportation in the United States. Individuals who own or possess a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device may not transport the device on their person, in carry-on baggage, or in checked baggage on flights to, from, or within the United States. This prohibition includes all Samsung Galaxy Note7 devices. The phones also cannot be shipped as air cargo.

The ban went into effect, Saturday, October 15, 2016.

This seems like a pretty big screw up by someone at Samsung. I wonder how they are compensating people that have already purchased the phone. I assume production has stopped. Anyone know if these things have been recalled yet?

Cleaning up this is mess has to be expensive! Probably will prevent them from sponsoring NASCAR if they were ever in the running.
 
Cash and the offer of a smaller Galaxy 7 or 7 edge. What they're not doing (publicly) is compensating all the after market companies that shelled out to produce supporting gear, cases, styluses et al. They're not compensating phone owners for that gear either.
 
No doubt Samsung will take a hit but phones at $600+ a pop, I think they'll survive. These damn camera's with the Internet and phone capabilities have to be one of the most overpriced pieces of electronics to date.

No time left to elaborate as the Samsung Galaxy that I'm typing on is starting to get hot. Time to turn it off. Besides, my flight is boarding my section right now. ;)
 
Can't blame the DOT at all and at least Samsung is trying to minimize the damage by offering the alternate phones. If they are also offering the cash that should help with compensation of the cases. I don't think I can expect Samsung to compensate the companies so much though. Samsung is going to take a major hit with this anyway.
 
I have a Samsung Note 3 and love it, but getting ready to replace it. Honestly, the problems that a lot of Android devices are having the past couple days have me thinking about going back to iPhone.

Funny but I just changed back to Samsung from Iphone. I got a 7 edge.
The jury is still out. I prefer the HTC UI. It's the most intuitive..... and it's stable, much like an apple.
 
Personally, I don't own a cell phone. Haven't since the '90s and I don't see that changing anytime soon. But, I can't understand the idea of buying a phone with a sealed battery that you can't easily change. You wind up carrying your charging equipment or an external battery pod with you ... why not just let people change the battery? I understand it from the factory point of view ... when that battery gets weak, you're motivated to change phones instead of paying for their repair centre to change it. But why would the public do it? Makes no sense to me.

yeah I still have a "dumb" phone and just never saw the value in owning a smart phone. I have a computer at home and a laptop for travel if I need it. I have yet to see anything productive actually take place on a smart phone. Maybe email, but if I'm emailing someone from a phone my employer better be paying for it.

This is what makes all this absolutely hilarious. Users love the removeable batteries. Every Note phone has had the removeable battery, then Samsung decided they were going to be cute with the Note 7 and have it introduced as the first of the Note series without removeable batteries. Now they are having all these issues. All people would have to do is remove the battery and take it to ur local cell phone store and swap out the battery. It would have costs Samsung a fraction of the price that its costing them now. Greed certainly backfired on this one, and I'm laughing my @$$ off about it.

Just got the Edge on Wednesday. Loving it.
