Setting the stage: Racing renewed under new format

"Our product sucked before, forever. Look at us now!!!"

I personally like the stages but if NASCAR seriously thinks that they are getting nothing but positive feedback about the stages then they truly have compleatly lost touch with the NASCAR fanbase.

I admit I was completely against the idea of stages in races when it was announced but it has grown on me. I just wanted to post this article because reading the stuff on NASCAR's own website makes me feel like I'm reading such complete corporate PR spin BS that I think Goebbels himself would be proud of the job they are doing creating a "reality distortion field."

Stages are fine, but, get rid of the
Bull ****.gif
cautions at the end of the stages, plus make the segments 1/3 1/3 1/3. :booya:

Nascar.com is a house organ, same as F1.com, MotoGP.com, NFL.com, MLB.com, etc. But really, what about this article is "spin BS?" The premise of the article is exactly what you stated about yourself in your first sentence And a lot of others have made the same observation, here at R-F and elsewhere.

There are plenty of opportunities to belittle the objectivity of house organs. I just don't see how this is one of them. And please be careful... you are spinning dangerously close to Godwin's Law.

The facts don't lie, still hemorraging viewers.

The stages have also done nothing to "improve the racing." Top 4 qualifier jumps into lead, top 4 qualifier checks out until everyone comes down pit road during a caution. Otherwise there may be a driver or two battling for tenth.

Segments, stages, whatever.

Another name for scheduled 'n announced phantom debris cautions. Makes for restarts, wrecks 'n high numbers of drivers on the lead lap (gotta love that, "racin's better than ever!").

Motorsports entertainment.

It has grown nothing but more distaste with me

One thing I dont like is how the second stage always starts 3-5 laps in.. That could use a tweak but other than that I like it.. I liked the idea when I first heard of it.. Ive liked whats its produced and even moreso Im very much looking forward to seeing how it works in the playoffs... The regular season means more than it has since the chase started and I can honestly say (other than the first issue I stated) that there is nothing I dont thoroughly enjoy about anything to do with the format, the playoffs, or NASCAR in general as a whole.

Everything is great!

NASCAR is like our political establishment. Refuse to listen to the people, thinks everything is peachy and fine while in reality they're rotten almost to the core.

They think just because they're making changes that equals to listening to our fans. Nope.

This is the first year that I can remember that I will be watching MLB instead of the race. I have tolerated the stages to some extent, but it really is quite absurd. I haven't quit Nascar like I thought I would, but I definitely feel myself moving away from the sport I've loved since I was a kid. The stages are the reason.

They keep chipping away at the fans. With every BS change I hear, "Well it's not that bad, its still racecars going around in a circle..."
I think they may have finally killed me off. Ridiculous, panicky mismanagement. I haven't watched a lap this year yet. Had tickets and didn't go to Vegas or ACS. I would've just been pissed off at how the sport has crumbled. I can honestly say that I haven't missed the decline this year.
I have better things to do with my time.

Nascar shot themselves in the foot with their format changes and they are simply trying to mend the wound with bandaids.

That being said, the new stages points to 'kind of' promote consistency which I prefer but I'd still much prefer stage racing if the green flag still waved. A caution after every stage is stupefyingly unnecessary.

I had to rewind the feed multiple times when they announced that stage racing is what the fans have asked for.

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go

There will always be folks who like watching race cars going around in circles regardless of the format used but and Nascar should send these people a nice fruit basket each Christmas as they are loyal to a fault.

This was my only grip with it when announced. It would've been so simple to have "known" stages and award the points as they went under green. Would allow for a more natural race with green flag stops, comers and goers, and everything that SHOULD appeal to the true NASCAR fan.

The sport has become a restart fest.

Yes, I'm one of loyal-to-a-fault fans. If I could still travel like I used to, I'd be attending as many races a year as I could.
Being made an object of derision is not one of my favorite things.

Oh for Pete's sake! There is absolutely nothing wrong with being loyal to a fault with Nascar or most other personal choices. I am loyal to a fault over the paper towels, paper plates and English muffins I purchase as I like them and they work for me. I should get a basket of fruit and an bundle of cash from the companies I am loyal to.

Oh, yes. I have to have a particular paper towel and if I run out it's Panic City until I can get to the store. And don't even start about my coffee. I get cold chills when I get down toward the end of my supply. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime that gets it here ASAP. LOL

None of my favs send me flowers, though. :(

I have to have Bounty, Dunkin Donuts, Thomas's English Muffins, JIF creamy peanut butter, Red Rose Tea.....and the list goes on. I am loyal to a fault for those and many other brands.

The only thing I do not like about stage racing is that the caution flag at the end of the stages eats into the lap count. I would prefer
those laps to not count against the total.
"“The things that will be on the table ... maybe starting the second stage from Lap 1 instead of kind of eight laps in versus caution laps counting ..."

Huh. Maybe those Fan Council comments are getting read after all?

TRL, I am a lot like you. I'm an avid fan of racing in its many forms and guises, and "consume" a fair amount of it first hand and through TV and other media. Every form of racing I follow has certain pros and certain cons to me, and they are not all constant and fixed over the decades. I have many faults, but my love of racing is not one of them IMO. True, it's not pleasant to be cut down over such a thing. When people spew that on here, I tend to consider the source and that often explains it.

I agree with you 100% as what people decide to to with their discretionary time is their business and as long as it isn't illegal or immoral it is all good. I was in the greater Detroit area yesterday taking pictures of urban decay, old buildings and the shifting landscapes. Most people would rather get a tooth pulled then even think about going into blighted areas with sketchy people around but I really like it. To make matters worse I am not a good photographer AND good amateur and professional photographers have already published better pictures of the same subject material. I don't care what anyone else thinks of my endeavors as what they think about them is inconsequential.

If you like to spend copious amounts of time watching racing or racing programs who cares?

I think sending Mikey on an Australian walkabout is long overdue.

Walkabout still occurs on a regular basis down under but it could come to an end if Mikey joins in.

From the same article DPK posted,

"NASCAR announced last week it was adjusting the stages for the Xfinity race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The stages will end after Lap 30 and Lap 60. Previously, the stages were to have ended after Lap 25 and Lap 50."

Could we go for stages ending at lap 1, lap 2, and a final stage of 2 more laps?

Could we go to IRP and hold an exhibition race without stages, commitment cones or cup drivers?
