Should blocking be illegal?

Two drivers in the indy car race made a bit of a stink with blocking. So should a driver who throws a block on someone be penalized or is blocking just part of the game? Of course we're talking about two different types of cars but blocking is blocking.

It's all part of the game in my opinion. These open wheel guys crack me up sometimes.

Making something illegal has never kept people from doing it so, yeah, block and when you get moved, don't go crying to the media.

In open wheel, you don't have any option but to hit the brakes when blocked. In nascar, you can and should boot an aggressive blocker out of the way.

Unless that lap car is racing another for the "Lucky Dog", the stupidest thing ever, he should get the f out of the way immediately.

They also have a rule about unavoidable contact but it doesn't apply to Dario.

So you've noticed that too?! I love the fact that their self proclaimed best driver couldn't hack it in the Nationwide or Cup series though

Personally I think it should be left up to the drivers to police. If some guy is blocking you over and over, give him the rest of the race off if you get my drift.

Yep. Every driver I've ever talked to says, "block me twice or block me on the last lap and you'll be in the infield."

I heard some guy on the radio today saying there should be a competition caution forty or fifty laps from the end of a race "to create drama" . If all these "improvements " were implemented ,would it still be called racing ?

block away it will all come back to you when you are running a good race.

it would but it would be more like a dirt race where the first few races set up the main.

No! That's ridiculous. What's next have the fire truck soak the track the last 5? That'd spice it up for sure

lol...it's a water truck...what the hell are you thinking....:sarcasm:

Blocking rules are idiotic, if I've learned anything from sking its the job of the person behind to avoid those in front. So in the Andretti Rahal mess its Andrettis fault because he couldn't avoid running over him.

Blocking in open wheel could cause someone to die. Blocking in NASCAR is totally fine due to the wheels not being exposed to cause a launch. However, if you're gonna block you better expect to get punted.

That was a chop block or he saw him coming and just chopped him off.

The car in front has a right to try and hold his position. I feel that drivers should be allowed ONE defensive move but more than that and they should be black flagged.

We all saw what happened when Eddie Haskell tried to block Bad Brad. And the Rahal Andretti incident at Long Beach was ree-dickulous. Rahal caused that - and it could have been far worse than it was.

That being said, if you are a lap or more down and not racing another lapper for position, let the lead lap cars go!

Kinda hard to miss someone in that situation.
Well then you weren't driving very well. Blaming the car in front for that accident is not right. Andretti had plenty of time to react.

Have at it boys doesn't mean having Nascar try to decide who was blocking intentionally and who was just it the way . God help Nascar if they ever try to get into a drivers mind. The drivers are perfectly capable of policing themselves . All of the 43 drivers on the track have a right to be there and a right to drive their line.

why give NASCAR one more judgement call to blow and everybody complain about. Leave it at the unwritten rules and let the drivers take care of it themselves. Unfortunately there are only like 3 drivers that come to mind that will take care of it. Everybody else is worried about ruffling feathers.

The leading car has the right to choose his line. Tough crappie if you feel more entitled to have the same real estate. If you can't pass him in a second groove, than just stalk and harass him to force a mistake , but that isn't a license to bulldoze him.

I realize mirror driver occours and that some drivers use the whole track, as in low in the apex, and sweeping out to the wall. In those cases move him.

Pure bump and runs deserve severe retaliation, at a future time when it going to hurt the most.

.....or being turned backwards at 190.

I don't think that a guy running HIS line is blocking. It's when they change lines to break a guys momentum that it becomes cheap. It's hard enough to make a pass in these cars even when you're a lot faster.

I love the bump and run, because speed should rule. If it's done right, and with enough time left in the race, it's the way to go.

Marco had no time to react. It was a tough place to pass and maybe Marco should have waited for a better opportunity but Graham caused the wreck, IMO. Graham said afterward that Marco never would have been able to make the turn anyway so why not just let him head into the tire barrier? Flicking his wheel to the right to intimidate Marco was quite childish on the part of Graham - and quite dangerous as well.

The car in front can't cause a wreck. You said it Mario couldn't pass there so he shouldn't have tried. He ended up wrecking himself and Graham in the process. He is at fault for making a dumb move IMO
