With all of the changes that have been proposed/enacted this week, do you think team owners should have some kind of a say in what does or doesn't get changed? NASCAR is pretty much the only major professional sport where this is not the case. In the NFL, if Roger Goodell has a screwball idea, the owners can shoot it down. I know that all of the other sports are franchised while NASCAR is family owned and the team owners are more like independent contractors, but I think they should still have a say.

Seems to me the fans ought to be the ones doing the voting, ultimately we are the ones that pay for it all

No. The CART series was literally managed by the owners and I watched it destroy itself through bad decision after bad decision from 1997-2002.

Having an iron fist dictator like Bill France, Jr. is the best way to run these things. Problem is, I see Brian France slowly heading towards being an appease of the team owners, like the 15 minute repair period during the Coke 600 or making the 12-man Chase a 13-man Chase last year.

That would be kind of hard to gauge, though. Plus, no offense to the fans, but those closer to the sport probably have a better idea what's best than we do. I just think there should be some form of checks and balances rather than one guy calling all the shots.

You are right, it cant be left solely in the hands of the fans. I have a tendency to over state the importance of the fans wishes. Still think we should have some say on things though.

"stakeholders" prolly include all.
fans...media...owners...drivers...sponsors.....etc

How the hell do I get on this fan council???

It depends on if the team owners vote in favour of trying to make the sport the best it can be or if they just wanted so that way it's rigged towards them :dual9mm:

And no, I don't think the owners should have any say.

I was honestly surprised when I saw poll results on ESPN.com about the qualifying change and the Chase proposal and whether or not fans agreed with them. 51% think the new Chase proposal is a good idea and 51% think the new qualifying format is a bad idea. It seems like there's a large disconnect on where the sport should go between this board and the filthy casuals.

Bingo. When CART was in its sweet spot, it was actually better than F1.....but the bottom fell out because rich dudes cannot resist spending.

No, they would never rig it for self serving purposes. Naw. :sarcasm:

would hardly call poll participants "casuals" .....if they bothered ta vote ?

so "disconnect" prolly ain't espn poll ?

You should read the Facebook comments the follow the ESPN articles...or for that matter, the NASCAR.com and FOXSports.com comments. They make this place and the NASCAR subreddit look like the intelligentsia.

From what I've seen in past nascar.com comments, yeah. I know EXACTLY what you mean. It's bad for the sport I'm telling you!

I feel like, at 25 years old. I'm an old man yelling at kids from the porch.

The nascar.com comments always bring me down. I only go there occasionally to see someone new bitching about how bad nascar is and how they are leaving the sport etc. There is never a positive thing said there.

90% of the comments I have seen on that website seem to be written by the illiterate, with horrible race taste to boot.

To be fair, some people actually claim to like nascar here, every so often. Even if that weren't the case, the level of conversation here is always a cut above and usually pretty interesting. I love it. A lot of folks here know a lot about a lot of things to do with the sport (or at least enough to fool me) and I enjoy the threads. Only real place I go for nascar chat.

blanston----- i fully agree. ....only race forum i follow......i get more here than if i read every jaski article daily !
just a lot a' "sky is fallin" negative stuff since changes proposed.

folks seem ta forget...that those "makin tha changes" - " got tha most ta lose" if they don't work ---not us !!

Blast from the past.....

I've been looking at some of the threads/posts from a year ago. Funny how views change over time. This was a great pre-RTA thread started by @ToyYoda

I think owners can put in their inputs and ideas, but the France Family should have the ultimate say.

Since it's not a league of franchised "teams" the owners shouldn't have a vote as anyone with enough money can field a "team", meet the requirements and join the club.
