I am borrowing this from a poll I saw in USA Today. Intriguing question, I think.

No way. There is no need to remember something that horrible year in and year out.

Somewhat against because..............

VE Day, VJ, Assination of JFK, and other horrific events do dot exist as National Holidays.

A National Day of Mourning and Rememberance would be more appropriate, not a "Holiday".

I plan on watching movies tomorrow because I cannot go thru that again.

A day of reembrance will be unavoidalbe. But for us to take a national holiday would be wrong. The terrorists attacked to shut down or way of life. We should make every effort to continue with our lives each September 11th grateful for the freedom to do so.

:( I may be the only person to agree with a holiday. But I see it this way. Back in 68 a man got shot down in Memphis. They made it a holiday in HONOR of him. Almost 3000 died on 911 I think they should be HONORED also.

Good question, and one I've thought about before, but I'm undecided.

This is going to sound awful, but I keep thinking the minute it becomes a national holiday, something even more horrific will happen to diminish 9/11.

I also agree that, since we haven't made national holidays out of those other tragedies already mentioned, we probably shouldn't in this instance either.

9/11 is perhaps the most horrific event ever to happen on American soil. I honestly doubt that anyone who was around when it happened will need a national holiday to remember the day and all that was lost -- and gained -- on it. Young children, and those yet to be born, will need to be reminded, and that can and will take place in history classrooms across the country. At least, it had better.

I guess that means I made my decision. No holiday.

I voted against it being a holiday. It was a horrible tragedy. But we need to move on. All they are going to do tomorrow is bring all the hurt back, some people are still greiving, they have to avoid all media outlets. If we get attacked again, will that be a holiday? after that?

There have been many strong turning points in our nation's history from the Revolution to today.

Yes, honor the day but NOT as a National Holiday.

I think the day we drop a few nukes on the entire Middle East should be a national holiday.

First we need to move all the Jews out and keep them in America for a while...then when the Middle East is empty of all the terrorists we can give it all to them.

I'm still undecided. I can't see the relationship of 9-11 to Kennedy's assasination or Martin Luther King's assination........both huge national tragidies but just not on the magnatude of 9-11. Pearl Harbor comes closest in my opinion and it is not a national holiday......so perhaps 9-11 should not be one either. Something, maybe not a "Holiday", should be done......How about a "National Day of Rememberance" something along the line of Memorial Day but more seriously celebrated. Memorial Day has almost completely lost it's origianl meaning and I'm afraid any holiday connected with 9-11 would eventually wind up the same way.....so maybe I'm falling on the side of "no". Tough call. Maybe if we had such a day on the Tuesday closest to 9-11 instead of some Monday to make for a long weekend it would not become such a "day for fun".....but, then it wouldn't fall on the anniversary each year. Okay......minds made up.........forget the holiday. Let's have a moment of silence every September 11th at 9:00am. But, damn that just doesn't seem enough.

That's what Cutiepie said!! You two should get together.:)

But seriously, the day Pearl Harbor was attacked is not a Holiday. No other day of mass murder is a holiday.

No reason this should be a Holiday. It's up to the individual how they want to mourn/remember.

His birthday is a holiday, not the day he was asassinated.

Washington's birthday is a holiday, Lincoln's birthday is a holiday. I know of no national holiday that is dedicated to a terrible event.

Okay, okay.......after reading and trying to compose a post justifying my indecision, I've fallen on the side of "no". You are right, Paul.

Wow! Didn't expect that of you, Paul. Way to go!

But I'm not so sure about the second part of this idea. Sounds a bit iffy...

No, I agree with that part. I just wonder at the efficacy of clearing out Israel of all Jews and bringing them here. Nice idea, but it sounds impossible. I guess I could be wrong...

I would say, not holliday, but deffinatly a day off of school and work. Spend the day with ur family. Like Memorial day in the Fall.

Hi fellow forum-users,

I'm not politically correct by any means. If I step on any toes, I apologize.

People compare the attacks on Sept. 11th to Pearl Harbor. What really happened with Pearl Harbor? We let our guard down. That is what happened last year in Sept.

Don't get me wrong, what happened was a great tragedy. But it needs to be a wake up call to the entire free-world. The U.S. got complacent and it bit us in the ass.

We start by saying that a parent can't discipline his/her kid. We tell the parents that if you smack thier butts, you can go to jail. By saying that, I'm not condoning child abuse. There is a difference. But if you let kids run loose today, what will they do tomorrow?

We then say that you can't pray at school. If you do, you'll upset someone who doesn't even know what they are getting upset at. They just know its something they can start screaming about. We worry more about thier right not to hear a prayer than what a prayer can do for a person, country and even the entire Earth. If you don't want to hear, YOU get up and leave. Our country was based on religion, believe it or not.

Next, we coddle the people who rob, steal, rape, cut little kids throats for fun, hit an old lady in the head just to see some brains leak out of her head, and who decorate their Christmas trees with human arms, ears, legs, toes, ect. Sorry to be so graphic, but its true. The bad guy/gal commits murder and goes to a place for 20-50 years and watches TV all day, gets decent meals, plays outside when they want to, gets computer access, and lives a life of luxury. Meanwhile, a family is devestated and will never be the same again. What should happen is as soon as the murderers are found guilty, they go straight to the gallows. Show it live on TV. Maybe that will get the message across.

Now the big thing is profiling. If you are Middle Eastern, get ready because you are going to be f'd with. Sorry folks, but ya'll are the ones who crashed four planes in America's property and killed a bunch of us. You don't like it? Go back across the big pond called the Atlantic Ocean. Is it fair that we treat every Middle Eastern like that? Nope, not at all. Oh well......Just like black males who get "harassed" by the police. I don't mean for this to sound like it is going to, but the majority of crimes today are commited by black males. If you are a black male and are acting suspicious or"stupid",as one of my cop friends calls it, you will get questioned. If you are a white male crusing around in a neighborhood that is know for selling drugs and you "just seem out of place", you will be screwed with. Get over it. If you don't want to be harassed, don't put yourself in that position.

Bottom line people, we have gotten SOFT. Like I said, the events of Sept.11th is a great tradgedy. I lost a freind who was stationed at the Pentagon. Her name is Jamie Fallon, USN. She left behind a beautiful 2 year old child. But, we need to stop feeling sorry for ourselves.

The papers, TV, magazines, and everything else for the next month will have nothing but the memorials and services that will go on tomorrow. My question is "WHY?" Is it to remind us of all the great people we lost? Is it to remind us of the worse event that has happened on America's soil?

Or is it to remind us of what we have made ourselves over the last 10-15 years?

Shiloh..........there are at least a couple of us you will blend right in with!!:D

Abooja?:D

Agree with everything you've said, except the part where state prison is a life of luxury. Every seen any documentaries on prison life? It's not fun, you never know when you're gonna get stuck.

Somewhat support - it's a fitting memorial

but not a big "hollyday" just a day or remberince.........maby a half day at school....but still go on with our lifes because if we do take off work and school the bad guys have won.

Paul, think again...you just offended me, a Jewish woman, and read the OLD TESTAMENT again. Jeasus, Mary and Joseph were Jews.

The USA CANNOT be the babysitter of the planet.

Nuclear war is PLANET DISASTER.

I know they were Jews. What did I say that was offense to Jews?

I agree with what most have said against the "holiday" and offer this further opinion:

To me, enough terrorrist groups make an issue out of dates and symbolic numbers. The fact that Sept 11 happened is enough to elicit future problems. By making it a "national holiday" may further sharpen the bullseye and only deepen our wounds.

Obviously, any and all future attacks would be devistating, but why potentially make a bigger target out of it. For all those who truly care, those who died will always be remembered.

Paul, I will calm down, but you DO make some HURT with your posts.

Logging off now to chill

What did I say that was offensive to Jews? Kat, I think you're having a hard time understanding what people are saying...again.

I have seen the ones you are talking about, but I have also seen some that would put a Cancun resort to shame...

Maybe the ones that tax evaders and politicians go to. Certainly not the ones child killers go to.

But a felony is a felony.

And by the way, it sounds like you were going to do the Jews a favor.....I missed the offending remarks too.

Not trying to sound toooooooooooo bad, but how long have the Jews been trying to get back their land?

I'm not a Jew and I didn't see anything offensive to anyone in what you said except maybe Arabs or Palestinians. I think it was more the Nuke thing than anything else. Remember, she has proudly stated she's an old hippy. On the other side of the fence for me, at least. I think she'll get over it.:)
