Signature And Avatars

Yes, it's cool to see fancy avatars and sig images but gets old fast. Not to mention slows the forums down drastically for dial uppers. (That or the server is slow.) I suggest that restrictions are put in place or members be more conscious of others.

I agree Highboy, some of us still live in the stone ages and have dial up and some of the pictures really slow down the forum. I don't think it is so much the avatars as it is the signature ones that need restricted.

I will take my part and change my sig. so there aren't as many pics. :)

Wait a minute!!!! I just noticed your signature...."I am better tha Tony Stewart"???? :dual9mm: :bigfight: What is that? I think that is what is messing up my computer maybe you should remove that. :p

You can go into your MY CONTROLS and board setup and tell it you dont want to see signatures, avatars and so on. that will speed it up for you also.

Yes, I am aware of that option but I do find some entertaining so I would hate to block them out.

Members simply need to be more courteous to fellow members. Forcing a forum to snatch large files (animated avatars, large images, etc.) from various server locations and such hinders a forums performance and can be painfully slow for dialupers.

Server load-wise, there is no difference between a 1x1 pixel image and a 150x150 pixel image. Signatures only tend to be a load problem when there are 50 BB Code tags being used, and I don't think anyone does that.

I can look into a user-set option to disable large (in file size) avatars, but signature images will still be left up to the user to make dialup-friendly.

As for server load (assume you are on a shared/virtual sever), I don't see a problem. But when a single member has an avatar and a sig image that are a 1/4 MB or more, that's silly and not user friendly for us dialupers.

There is an av/sig image that is 1/4 mb? Lemme see...
