Godspeed Frank Williams. A giant of Formula 1. He will be missed.
I still remember the shock and sadness I felt upon hearing of his accident in a road car, leaving him paralyzed. The rivalry between Williams and McLaren was epic back in the day. How could two independent race teams attain such heights of accomplishment at the same time? It was mind boggling.
Frank overcame his physical disability and carried on, remaining at the forefront of F1 for quite a few years more. Ultimately, the team declined into irrelevance and got sold off, but it is a tribute to the man that his paralysis was not the cause of this. It was just the cycle of independent race teams... very very few are able to race on through the decades, indeed pass from one generation to the next, and maintain sporting excellence all along the journey. It has always been thus, and it remains thus.
