This new chase format has made teams operate under very unnecesary pressure of trying to make a cut only for their great efforts to be undone in the next race since you really cant have a bad race if you dont win that particular race within the round.
Fact checks:
In 4 races a total of 11 on track incidents involving chasers due to a wreck, a failure of some kind or bad luck has occured. Not including pit mishaps. This is a pretty alarming number of incidents given that, these guys are suppose to meet the challenge to compete and yet you can count on half of them to have some sort of issue during the race.
To me, it's all because of pressure. Unnecesary pressure being mounted on these drivers/crews and teams.
Making the chase this way almost makes it not worth the headache. I think you should be able to have fun while also running for a championship. It should never be so tense that you can have a meltdown when your car is making a sound its not suppose to be making.
Look back to last week at Allmendinger and this week's at Harvick. Specially the latter.
Harvick done threw away a good run because his head played a trick on him.
The chase as it was before, if someone got in your way and he cost you a good finish you were, perhaps able to overcome that by being able to race the rest of the races unimpeded by point resets.
Now, if someone gets in your way and costs you a good finish you cant even make that up because there is no room to do so in 3 races. (1 in which you have zero control over)
Just throwing this out there: NO, being agressive doensn't pay under this system either. Not going for a championship it doesn't.
