Snowball Derby

Kyle Busch is gonna win this race. He'll probably wreck the whole entire field to do so but he's gonna win it.

I have watched that kid race in Berlin, MI. Congratulations Erik.

Erik Jones won the 45th annual Snowball Derby held at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. It is the biggest win of the 16-year-olds career.

“I can’t believe it…I can’t even believe it!” said Jones in victory lane after the race.

Jones was able to finish ahead of Kyle Busch. Busch was eventually passed by Jeff Choquette who took home second in a race that was littered with wrecks.

The two biggest involved drivers who regularly compete in the top three series of NASCAR.

After an incident with Steve Wallace, Nelson Piquet dropped some harsh words once he got out of his car. Johanna Long also involved in received damage in the incident.

Moments later when T.J. Reaid took the lead after the red flag was lifted he was followed closely by Kyle Busch. Moments later he was spun by Busch. Ross Kenseth and Chase Elliott were among those who also were damaged in the incident.

After the race was over Reaid approached Busch before security personnel stepped in.

It was one of the very best races of the year throughout all of the series. To prove it, from the Wed. night dinner to the drop of the checkered flag 3- 18 pack bottles of BL were consumed by yours truly alone. The absolute highlight of the races viewed from high atop the best seat in the house was the Derby.
KyBu was crazy pissed until his PR lady calmed him down because a pimply faced sixteen year old nobody (his words) handed him his ass and won the derby despite him trying to take out the entire field so he could win. Some of it is a little fuzzy because of obvious reasons but my wife assures me that I had a very good time for the entire four days . Wish you all could have been there.

Johali, sounds like you had a blast. I understand Steven Wallace threw a hammer at Kyle's car.
I think Speed is going to have some highlights next Sunday night.

I was listening on the website that shall not be named. Kyle's a freaking crybaby puss.

And Krylie tried, several times, to wreck that kid.

It takes a ton of talent to wreck a bunch of teenagers :sarcasm:

I missed seeing that because there was so much to see but everyone was talking about it and as the beer flowed the story got better and better. :D

Yeah but two outdrove him and handed him his ass as stated above and the crowd, as they say went apesh!t wild.:D

I love how Kyle calls the event officials "not the smartest".

Yeah, I know some of'em. Said he probably wont be able to buy his way back into the derby again but maybe they'll let him because its fun watching the, according to KyBu, hicks and nobody's, kick his ass. It really grates his ass that he cant win the derby even trying to cheat.

I agree Kyle is often a real jerk, and other adjectives could be used to describe him.
What he says doesn't bother me so much.
The mid race disrespect and carnage bothers me more. To a lot of those guys this is their Daytona 500, or Indy 500. Some will progress to bigger things, but opportunities are limited, and it still attracts a big gun like Busch, which is an obvious statement about the prestige or challenge of the event.

Kyle is a catch 22, I am glad they penalized him to the back, but I am glad there is someone mean and bad to hate as well. Maybe I am shallow, but he plays the villain well. Unjustly some good cars were damaged by his idiocy, but Jones also got to put his signature on beating one of the very best. That value will become even more profound with time.

In the video the 2012 event looked like a classic, those are gifts because you can have the best of best running, but some races are just more magical. The ones you never forget, and you know you were fortunate to be there to see a classic.

I liked seeing Jones poise, it looks like Busch ran him hard, and leaned on him a lot. The 16 y/o handled it flawlessly like a pro. That was fun stuff just to see on the video, it had to be great to see it live. It is about a ten hour drive for me, maybe I will use some frequent flyer miles, but I really want to see one. I remember reading about the Derby in the 70s.

Were you watching the twitter feed before the race? Some idiot Danica hater texted Erik that he should run Johanna up into the wall. Erik texted back a picture of Johanna (wearing Eriks shirt under her firesuit) hugging him .Now that's poise.

The story sounds great, but the posted video is all I have seen.

I like that Kyle wants to win every race but I agree with some of your sentiments. For most of the drivers in that race, this is their Super Bowl. For Kyle, it's like an NFL Preseason game.

I think Kyle's frustrated because he has nothing to show for this season. He had some bad luck this year -- but most of the races he lost, he was simply outdriven by better drivers. That wreck was classic Kyle, he got outdriven on a restart by a kid and got pissed so he overdrove the corner and intentionally caused a wreck.

All the talk about "New Kyle" and I see a lot of Old Kyle.

Charlotte, NC 12/5/12- It all seems too familiar for Texas super late model standout Casey Smith, as once again for the second consecutive year dreams of winning the Snowball Derby come up short in the final 100 laps resulting in disappointing finish. Smith took the green from the 22nd position and worked his way to the front to lead multiple laps during the mid portion of the event before a three wide move by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kyle Busch lead to contact with former NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Steven Wallace and Casey ending both Wallace’s and Smith’s day less than seventy laps shy of the finish.

The incident by Busch, his second of the day after spinning TJ Reiad out while leading for no apparent reason, led to Wallace throwing a hammer at Busch’s #51 machine and even angrier Smith giving Busch a “Texas size” piece of his mind after the race face-to-face before security came in to aid Busch.

After cooling down a bit Smith had this to say about the incident with Busch that ended what looked to be at minimum a top five Derby finish.

“I wonder what the hell he was thinking making it three wide and racing as hard as he was out there destroying everyone’s cars. For him it doesn’t really mean much to go around knocking guys out of the way and tearing up their race cars because he’s got enough money and sponsors it doesn’t matter to him,” stated Smith after the race. “Me and Steven (Wallace) were racing each other with no problems coming up through the field when Kyle (Busch) decides to dive bomb us and take us both out instead of passing us pretty much like he did to TJ (Reiad) earlier in the race. Maybe he was just taking his frustrations out on us because he sucked all year in cup and didn’t make it to the banquet? Who knows?”

Much like a season ago qualifying in on speed was the toughest challenge for Smith and company especially this season with sixty plus cars attempting to make the thirty-seven car field on Friday night’s qualifying session. Once Sunday’s race day came around Smith’s #99 SealMaster of Austin Chevy Impala SS showed the packed grandstands that he came to play and came to win slicing through the field and dodging wrecks along the way to make it into the top ten a third of the way through the 300 lap race. After solid pit stops by the crew Smith made his bid for the lead taking over the top spot on lap 163 and holding it for the next forty-two laps before the incident with Busch after a round of pit stops ended his night.

“It’s just really starting to get to me to have such good cars here at the Derby and have something happen when your sixty or seventy laps away from the finish and never even have a chance to at least show everyone what you really got. The worst is when idiots like Kyle (Busch) ruin your night and you have no control over it,” added Casey.

Just another piece of evidence in the file of "Kyle Busch is an ASS".

Yep. During the race I read on twitter that Steve Wallace had thrown a hammer at Kyle's car and thought it was a joke. I wonder if he'll get banned from nect years race for that. I think he should. Throwing a hammer at a car on the track is insane, even under yellow.

I doubt it, the fans and officials loved it because everyone wanted something to happen to KyBu for what he was doing and Wallace lowballed the hammer so it really wasnt a threat to anyone. What everyone really wanted was for the teams crews to hold off KyBu's bodyguards and the officials so Casey could kick his ass, he was trying his best to get to him. Maybe this will prompt someone to air the race next year. I hope so.
