What is with this sport's fan trying to diminish Johnson's talent and accomplishment? I mean here is a guy that won five championship in a row, won a sixth last year, consistently runs in the top 10 weekend in and weekend out. Yet, all I ever hear is "Oh if it wasn't for Chad he'd be a mid-packer." or "Oh, he's only the best because of the rest of his team." There's also the ever favorite "Oh if it wasn't for The Chase, he'd only have X amount of Championship." Sometimes the phrase "Welfare System" is thrown in.

What...what is this fandom's desire to diminish a man's talent and accomplishment? I mean granted he can be a bit boring and once in awhile I'd like to see him get up into another driver's face. But ******* y'all, this is a guy who has a legitimate chance of winning 8 or more Championship before he retires and the haters think he's no better than Danica Patrick.

A driver with Johnson's talent and accomplishment only come around once in a generation, just like Hale bopp comet.

Why write an essay to someone who thinks JJ is no better than Danica?

Just thinking out loud. It's kinda perplexing to me anyways. A guy who has this much talent and this much accomplishment in such a short amount of time and he has so many haters. Yet, take a driver like Jr. who's only really come in as his own in the last couple of years and he has his own cult called "Jr Nation".

One needs to look only to your main post and realize why people dont like him as much.

Its not much the equipment and crew cheif he has been given but his fans.

They think he should be given a break because he's awesome.

Now, let me make clear I dont think you're one of those particular "fans" but most of his are.

You and dsquad are pretty decent.

Cause they are cheaters!!!!

Ok, I'm kidding, and I get sick of hearing that one. I can't stand the 48, and I smile everytime he fails, but I can even admit he's one of, if not the best driver ever.

I don't understand it either. I think the 48 bunch is the perfect combination of driver, crew, and equipment. Jimmie probably wouldn't be as successful without Chad, but Chad probably wouldn't be as successful without Jimmie either.

There's your answer in bold. Johnson has pissed off a lot fans by being successful and when he wins, he's upsetting the fans of the 42 other drivers.

All the Nascar greats have had the same type of criticism and ,IMO, much of it is a result of jealousy and envy.

Ehh, to be fair, one could say the same thing about Gordon fans, Junior fans, Danica fans, KyBu fans...pretty much fans of any popular driver. I agree with you about @SpeedPagan and @DSquad48, though. They're both cool dudes.

As for the original question, I think the 48 team is like the San Antonio Spurs from the mid 90s-early 2000s. They just do everything perfectly on most days, and as a result they win constantly. Fans generally like winners, but they don't always like absolute perfection. They like an underdog, and they like to see different people winning, not the same person over and over. It's hard to root for someone like that without looking like a front runner, unless you were a fan of theirs from the beginning. If any other person and team had done exactly what the 48 team has done, I think you'd see the same reaction from the fans/haters.

TL;DR - Jimmie wins too much.

Man, who gave you permission to use my Spurs?:p

A better team would be the Lakers. They win most of the time and people hate it.

San Antonio is more like the underdog that actually competes and wins a championship every few years.

Remember the Gordon/Evernham/Rainbow warriors backlash in the mid-90's when the #24 was winning 10+ races per year along with championships? The disdain for the #48 has nothing on that and before I grew the hell up, I was as guilty as the rest

Did you every throw chicken bones or beer cans at the 24?

Nothing beats the guy who threw a cooler @ Gordon's car after he beat jr at dega

They threw hundreds of Full 7 dollar beers at Jeff one year in phoenix, I was shocked at how pissed the Junior fans were

Its all my fault for saying that Johnson was over rated. I am not a hater, I just believe there are better and more exciting drivers out there. Obviously not everyone on here likes my driver and I am fine with that, our opinions do vary

PLEASE DONT HATE ME

If JJ could achieve all that he has without Chad and the 48 crew then yes, I would say he's Superman. But he didn't and he can't. It's a team sport.
I see it as the 48 team being the best team and the team with the best chemistry. It's not all Jimmie and it's not all Chad & crew. It is a combination. If you you were to subtract any one key element from the combination then I believe the success would go out the window.
JMO.

It's pretty simple really. Sports fans don't like to see their team lose. Especially to the same team for the better part of a decade. That's the main thing. The timing of the chase and fans' opinions on it coupled with a sudden streak of championships by one person when their driver "would have won the champion" this year or that year under the old system will cause fans to come up any reason to discredit the dominance of that team, therefore making their drivers' loss not seem so bad. You also need to remember the fact that the 48 team has been caught "cheating" over 10 times in that time frame. So you've got a bunch of angry race fans looking for anything they can to discredit the 48 right after a huge change in the points system that they all hate and then they get caught cheating so many times... it's ammunition for these angry fans. "He only did this because of the chase.. Jeff Gordon would have won this year and Carl Edwards would have won this year and bla bla bla bla bla. He's a cheater anyway, probably has a trick engine".... Oh and let's not forget that he works for the same motorsports power house that brought in wonder boy about 10 years earlier to dethrone Dale Earnhardt. The same team that is accused of having NASCAR in their pocket.

So you've got the people that are Dale Earnhardt fans that may not like Hendrick because of Jeff Gordon and Hendricks continued dominance with Jimmie Johnson.

Then you've got the Jeff Gordon fans that don't like him for the same reasons.

You've got the people that hate the chase and think it's a scam and he doesn't deserve the championships.

Then there's the "He's a dirty rotten cheater!" crowd.

Then there's the "Hendrick has NASCAR in their pocket" people.

Oh! ...and don't forget Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth fans :D

...and I just don't like him because he's boring. I can also admit that I just don't like him because he just wins too many damn races.... like I said no one likes seeing their driver lose... especially to the same guy over and over.

Wow. You've had WAY too much coffee this morning

We are allowed to not like JJ and still respect his driving abilities..... right?

Yes, but there are people who tries to diminish his talent and accomplishment, and that's what my rant was primarily about. I mean, don't like JJ all you want, but don't try to cheapen what the guy did or what he's capable of.

Next you'll go on about NASCAR trying to prevent JJ from winning 7 championships by implementing this new chase format.

You need thicker skin. Try being a Jr. fan for a day. I read the mindless dribble that spews from many haters about my driver on almost a daily basis. It is what it is I guess. I'm not sure where it comes from. My guess is jealousy or class envy of some sort. What they say goes a long way in stating something about themselves more than the drivers we root for.

Yep.

It was the same thing with Gordon/Evernham. Kinda like everyone outside of NY hate the Yankees.

I'm a Gordon fan and when he was winning all the time even I got tired of it. When Johnson came along I didn't like him challenging Gordon's records. But over time I've come to like Johnson.

That was proven wrong in 2010 when Chad FIRED the ENTIRE pit crew and replaced them with the crew from the #24...JJ still won the championship that year....

No. Pretty sure it was RH that made the call. The reason that ht e 48 got the 24 crew is because JJ had a shot at the Championship and the 24 didn't and the 48 over the wall gang sucked.

...also, it was pretty much proven true when Matt Kenseth won 7 races with a new team and subsequently ran for the title.
Chemistry happens. ;)
