Hello fellow drag racers. I just ran my 65 Mustang for the first time this past Sunday at Lebanon Valley. I was very disappointed to discover it would only run a best 14.96@97mph. It hooked decently off the line but the rpm's came up very slowly through first gear. The car pulled hard after that but needless to say I am very unhappy with the ET. The motor is a moderately built 289 cid with just over 350 horsepower, 4-speed trans with a final drive ratio of 3.50:1. Any suggestions on how to get more speed out of this thing without getting into the motor would be much appreciated.

my best guess is that it's just not torquey enough, if RPM's climbed slow. A 3.50 is really high for drag racing- good for down track, but will eat you alive to the 330 mark. Built cars run a 4.10- I would say a 3.83 would be better for what you're doing, as you cant run the big RPM out the back door. Give richmond gear a call, they might help you out there.
