Sponsors

I was thinking about this earlier and thought I'd hop on here and ask you guys. Obviously sponsors are very important in NASCAR or just motor sports in general. So when you are in search of a product or service, do you consider sponsors of racing first? I try to, but sometimes it slips my mind. Even If its a driver I don't pull for, ill try to support that team/sponsor. Bacon? Why no try Smithfield? Need Insurance? Look into Geico, Nationwide or Farmers first.

Yeah the companies may not ever know you purchased their product because they sponsor your favorite race team but at least your supporting them for supporting your favorite sport. Hell, I treated myself to a Diet Dew today and I'm not even a Dale Jr fan.

I think it important to do so to help the sport. Sometimes if there is a sponsor you have never heard of, Google it. They might have a product you would be interested in.

Just food for thought.

I think that what your saying is true but it can also cut both ways. There are times that I might buy something from a company but because of a drivers, teams attitude I would go out of my way to buy it somewhere else. When I see a driver being an idiot on or off track make me wonder why a company would sponcer that driver knowing what they are. Look at bush brothers one arrested for dwi in az just as an example. Some drivers are good spokesmen other are not. Guess it's just how you look at it

I work for Lowe's and I'm retired from the National Guard so I feel I can effectively support both sponsors......I don't drink Buds or shop in Home Depot...my wife loves Target and Dollar General....

I never let nascar sponsorship determine what products I buy. I may buy some products that are nascar sponsors, but it has nothing to do with the fact they are involved in nascar.

The way I look at it is, if a company can afford to spend 10,15,20 million dollars on advertising in nascar, they're doing ok and it won't hurt them if they don't get a few more dollars from me.

Sometimes I do it unconsciously. A few years ago my wife asked why I didn't shop at Home Depot when it is a lot closer than Lowe's. I thought about it and I think it had to do with Home Depot going over to toyota. I have collected Nascar Cards since they first came out in 1988. I have always bought sealed hobby boxes and cases of packs, opened and collected them and have almost every card, every official autograph card, every memorabilia card, every Rookie card from every driver. When Tony Stewart , Dale Jarret, Michael Waltrip and all of the others went over to toyota their cards went into the tank. All of a sudden I had cards that were worth a few thousand dollars now worth practically nothing and I was bitter as hell and still am. Tony's are now coming back and the non toyota drivers have always held strong. Why they tanked and still aren't collectible I don't know and don't care, I just know that marketing, positive or negative, affects everybody.

I'm not saying everybody should let Nascar sponsorship determine what we buy entirely, but to at least consider a product or service that is involved with the sport we love first.

I like Lays, Coke and Pepsi. All the support I give to them sponsors. lol

I'd buy Smarties instead of M&Ms, but the ones in the US are garbage. I love the Smarties that they sell in Canada and pretty much everywhere else in the world. Not sure why the US got stuck with those crappy sweet tarts things as Smarties...

Havent been to Lowes in years and cant think of the last time I didn't buy Miller Lite. I admit its kinda pathetic on my part, but hey, hating peopole and their sponsors is half the fun to me!

Also I like to pretend that when I buy Miller Lite it somehow will trickle its way all all the to the #2 engine some how and thus Brad wins because of me. Yesterday I clearly didnt buy/drink enough. :dunce:

I remember being at a racetrack many years back and talking to a guy in a booth. He wasn't outside with the other vendors ,he was inside .I asked him what he was selling and he showed me boxes of Nascar trading cards for sale . $30.00 I think .I was amazed and said , yeah that'll never catch on . Guess I was wrong.:(

When I was a kid I drank Pepsi over Coke because of Gordon's paint schemes & now I prefer Pepsi. I used to hate Stewart so I always went to Lowes but now I could care less.

You know, not much really. However, I only drive Toyotas, and whenever I travel, I try to rent Toyotas. Hard as hell to do because rental cars don't rent them much--they prefer other makes. After I drive those buckets of crap, strengthens my loyalty to Toyota.

Seriously, I respect your passion, and I want to see that manufacturer loyalty (and hate for other manufacturers if necessary) come back to NASCAR. When Tony was in a Toyota, I couldn't wait for him to get out because I knew he hated it. Initially, I was stoked, but the reality is he hated it, and I hated having him in one.

I don't hate on the other manufacturers, but by the same token, I won't buy them, and I won't root for them. I absolutely respect them, however. As a Toyota supporter, I am acutely aware of the fact that there is no NASCAR without the Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc. As a Toyota supporter, I respect this sport's past, and I am appreciative for the opportunity to participate. I understand the reservation and/or hate people had when Toyota came to the sport. In fact, I winced when I heard they were coming because I didn't want to listen to the crap. However, I have always been proud of the way Toyota came in. They did it the right way. They didn't buy teams (Chevy was done with JGR). I can tell you first hand that everybody connected to Toyota from the top to the floor sweepers respects and appreciates this sport. It was never Toyota's intention to come in and dominate. They wanted to compete, and they have been a great partner to NASCAR.

In my opinion, Sponsors with their choke hold on drivers showing personality are destroying NASCAR. I go out of my way to avoid NASCAR branded merchandise.

The last Ford and the dealership I bought it from did more to get me in Toyotas than their participation in NASCAR ever could have. Heck, Toyota wasn’t in it when I bought the first one. I have a 4Runner these days. My wife drives a Solara.

I’m reasonably sure the house is PepsiCo product free. There may be a store branded item in here I’m not aware of. I’ll correct it if there is.

Lowe’s and Home Depot are wonderful places. Not unlike shopping malls, they tend to attract a lot of people I don’t want to be around so I stay away from both. Ace and/or True Value will cost a little more but it’s worth the difference.

There was a time when I would buy the products that sponsored my favorite drivers. As I got older I chose products based on product quality and not advertising. Once I find a product I like I am loyal to it - until the quality falls. With all things equal between two products I'll get the one that supports NASCAR. I realize nothing happens in NASCAR without sponsors but over the years sponsors have affected the sport by saturating the broadcast with product placement. Drivers have to mention product names before talking about the stuff I want to hear. Every bit of information on the TV screen has a product associated with it. Even pit reporting has to mention a sponsor.

I think it's ok for the drivers to metion the sponsors, but I don't think it should be the first thing they say as the camera comes to their face. Let the drivers celebrate a little first. I like how Jr. did it. For a second he forgot about sponsors and enjoyed the moment. But then he mentioned something. You should enjoy the victory a little first.
