Sprint All Star Fan Vote

What part of "Fan Vote " don't you understand . Like you , I'm hoping Timmy Hill will someday have enough fans to get him voted into the race . Meanwhile , it sees that Danica has more fans than Timmy , so I'm OK with that .

At the NHL All-Star game this year a fellow by the name of John Scott (WHO?) was voted in to play. No one was amused so changes will be made next year. Like you I don't care who is elected on the basis of popularity but maybe Nascar should look into providing a list of drivers based on set criteria. Just a thought.

You guys do realize that NASCAR's fan vote is a smaller portion of their all star event than other sports, right?

Major League Baseball sets the starting lineup for their all-star game entirely based on a fan vote.

Does someone like Kevin Pillar or other little known players get elected to the starting lineup? I sure hope not as it would make a mockery of things.

At one point last year, the entire starting 9 of the Kansas City Royals would have been the starting 9 for the American League all-stars. Luckily other fanbases chimed in and spoiled that.

It's not uncommon for an older popular player with declining skills (like say, Derek Jeter) to get elected to the starting 9.

Danica may not get very many top 5 or even top 10 finishes but she is still well liked by Nascar fans and hell I think she is great for the sport. She may never win and race but if her face keeps people talking about the sport I am all for her being a part of it. As for Chase he is my guy.

I don't mind DP being voted in either as the vote is a popularity contest and she is very popular and if people don't like it change the rules.

I think it is good that some older guys get one last hurrah but it would be awful if there were a bunch of players that were not All-Star worthy. It would have sucked if all the KC players had managed to start.

I agree with you and @oldgoat , new rule .....no wimmin !

Just a sport. Lots of people get carried away with the hate and bitterness towards the woman. She was voted in for the 3rd time because the fans want to see her. Don't like it, feel free to whine and complain, but there's no need for the ugly hate. I find it creepy and kinda scary as well.
Maybe it seems creepy to you, but to me it isn't hate and bitterness. I felt the same way toward MW also. I would hope that fans would want to vote in someone based on ability and popularity instead of just her being a mid pack driver.

Seems to me that fans are the ones that don't get the part about a all star race. Why would you want to vote someone in that you know is going to ride at the back and do nothing?

I voted for Jeffery Earnhardt because I thought that the All-Star race would be good exposure for him.

I used to go to Busch races to see my favorite Cup driver race . When you are the fan of a driver , it's just about seeing him (or her) race . I think Danica has a lot of fans , and that's great for the sport . Just my opinion .

I have no problem with Danica being voted into the All-Star Race, but it's pretty obvious the 2nd fan vote driver was added as a result of the Josh Wise fiasco a couple years ago that kept Danica out of the ASR.

Wasn't the "official reason" that because Jeff Gordon wasn't racing, they needed a 20 car field?

It's a pretty BS reason but I give NASCAR credit for trying.

Would Chase have been the 1st or 2nd fan vote winner? I would do something like take the XFINITY points leader and put him in the ASR. Make an exception for the four car rule. I guess problem with that is what race to decide who gets in? After Dover gives a team only a week to build a fifth car and that might be a problem

In 1995 and 1996, the Busch Series champion got an automatic spot in the Busch Clash (in a Busch sponsored car). No idea who actually prepared and owned the car though.

If I recall correctly , it kept 'everybody' out .

It wasn't the chamion, it was whoever had the most poles in the series. For the 1994 season, it happened to be the champion, David Green. I think he won the spot again for the 1995 season.

I think the emergence of Chase Elliott probably played a part too. Up until now, Danica's popularity among ASR non-qualifiers had been pretty uncontested, save for the Reddit warriors in 2014. And as we saw from the results of this year's fan vote, Chase was the top vote getter.

Something like this would be awesome. This year would of been Buescher...not sure if he would run the 34 FRM car or have a RFR prepared car. Though FRM is basically a Roush satelitte team.

From a competitive standpoint I don't think it makes much difference who gets voted in as some of the drivers in by rules are not competitive week in and week out.

Maybe Nascar should have a race among the first 10 in the points, then from 11-20 and from 21-30 to help with competition.

Like I thought....... Nascar knew Chase would get the vote and they just couldn't stand not seeing Danica in there...... so....... take the top 2........ rigged to the max.....

The hosing of Blaney was NASCAR's decision on the restart. NASCAR already knew that Chase was in by vote. They should've just left the restart alone.
Hmmm. So rules should be enforced selectively, based on who the offender is??? No bueno.

Was there always supposed to be 2 fan vote drivers? I thought it was only 1.

Also, I'm perfectly fine with someone like Danica winning the other vote...assuming they were always planning to vote in 2 drivers. She has a good amount of fans and frankly I think if you have an issue with her being in because of her performance, then you should have an even bigger issue with guys like Josh Wise ever getting in or Matt DiBenedetto. You're telling me if Matt D. would have won the vote this year it somehow becomes "ok"?

I posted this , post #53.

In the booth they just said that the top two would be voted in since JG isn't racing. They need a 20 car field.
