Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but this is precisely what I am talking about. Mights. Maybes. Could bes.
I am not trying to villify Tony Stewart. But all these excuses made for him speak to what I am starting to suspect; where there is smoke, there is fire. The examples I gave contained no mights, no could it bes. Theories are OK, but I'll wait for facts before I go and sling my hat in anyone's corner. True, reporters seem to be drawn to Tony like a moth to a flame. That is their job, to cover the events. Do they engage in some overkill with him? Yes. Again, whose fault is that? Did the media just get together over bagels one day and decide to hound Tony Stewart until he snaps and punches someone? Highly unlikely. I see this mess as more of a consequences to behavior deal. Tony pushed/hit/slugged/whatever a reporter. That makes him suspect to go off again, and a reporter's primary function is to report. He is not immune to having questions asked of him after a crash. He is not immune to the same level of intrusion the other 42 drivers face. He handles it differently. So everyone is supposed to change because one driver has a fit? Not likely.
Face it, people, the man has a problem with his temper. I am not saying that all these money grubbing freaks who have bombarded him deserve to get rich by being in the right place at an opportune moment. I am saying that his behavior is not acceptable in standing with his status as a public figure, a professional athlete, a championship contender, and a celebrity. Some inconvenience goes with that territory. If someone wants to pay me what he gets paid to do what he does, they can mic my bathroom if they like. I'll go on record right here and now saying that I will grant an interview at any track at any time for what he makes.
Until some facts are presented, some decisions reached, and some settlements announced, I am done with these discussions. My point has been made, clearly repeatedly and soundly. Disagree with me, agree with me, whatever you like. I will not make excuses for someone without the facts in hand. Period.
