RICHMOND, Va. - Joe Gibbs Racing will hold a press conference Saturday at Richmond International Raceway in response to assault charges being investigated in Sullivan County, Tenn., against driver Tony Stewart, team spokesman Mike Arning said Friday.

Arning said that team owner Joe Gibbs would speak on the matter at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at RIR.

"There's not a whole lot I can say on behalf of The Home Depot and Joe Gibbs Racing," Arning said. "A simple assault charge, it seems, has been filed within the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.

"We are cooperating fully with the investigation, but because it is an ongoing investigation, there's really not a whole lot I can say at this moment. However, Joe Gibbs will be here tomorrow to talk further about it."

At approximately 3:15 p.m., ET ON Friday, a press release from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office arrived at RIR announcing that Sheriff Wayne Anderson and District Attorney General H. Greeley Wells Jr., were investigating an alleged assault following the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway two weeks ago.

According to the release, allegations are that Stewart shoved a female fan in the pit area immediately following the race. The sheriff's department is conducting an investigation, which is expected to include interviews with all persons known to have been in the area when the alleged assault took place.

According to Arning, six statements have been given.

Following completion of the investigation, the results will be submitted to the District Attorney's office and the matter present to the Sullivan County Grand Jury to determine if charges should be brought.

According the press release, Bristol Motor Speedway, NASCAR and Joe Gibbs Racing are all cooperating fully with the investigation.

Unless the Sullivan authorites in the form of either the Sheriffs Dept or the DA release some type of statement don't expect to learn anything at this press conference with Coach.

Mr. Gibbs is no fool and to make any type of definitive statement other than we are cooperating, we hope this matter will be resolved, we feel there is no basis , yada yada would be foolish.
