Stewart Criticizes Lug Nut Rule

Something is going to happen out of this.
Maybe Brian will get the hint that they're tired of his controlling crap.

If they all band together and he bans everyone, his empire will be over.

That might have worked back then but today there's just too much money involved plus all the legalities' with sponsors paying for X races and not getting them.
The france family is a monopoly and should be broken up same as AT&T was.

So my guess is Brian caves.

The driver council needs to start a penalty-compensation fund on Kickstarter. I'd gladly chip in to let Tony run his mouth. Or Brad. Or Denny. Or Kyle. Or ...

NASCAR will take another look at lug nut rules: In the face of increasing driver criticism about safety, NASCAR Senior Vice President of Competition Scott Miller said Friday afternoon that the sanctioning body will re-examine its lug nut rules. "Until this point, we've never really had too much trouble," said Miller. Miller said Friday that NASCAR will continue to engage in discussions with the teams and drivers and decide whether a change needs to be made. "Since the drivers are now questioning it, it's time for us to kind of re-evaluate our position and work with the community on looking at possibly different ways to enforce the pit-road rules," Miller said. Miller did not off a timetable for evaluating the rules. "The teams are obviously pushing harder than they ever have in this area," said Miller. "And it's time for us to take a look at it, but we'll do that as an industry. The open dialog is very good right now between NASCAR and the teams, so we'll work internally and with them to move forward here."(Fox Sports)(4-22-2016)

I do not like the idea of less lug nuts. I saw a rear tire shear the studs off of a top fuel dragster at Phoenix a few years ago and it killed a lady watching the race. Even though a stock car wheel is a lot smaller it can still be just as fatal if it were to hit someone. To me the risk is not worth the reward.

''Big Bill' crushed any attempts of a drivers union with the threat of a life time ban of drivers who joined.
Big Bill isnt here to threaten them again, so anything is possible now.

That get very expensive very fast lol

What NASCAR did was the equivalent of removing speed limits from a highway because there are enough patrolmen and women to police it. The rule keeps it from getting too crazy due to the threat of random enforcement. Fair? Dunno I saw a guy doing 95 the other day. If I wanted to assume the risk, I would have done so myself. Mountain meet molehill.

I think Jeff Gordon had the right take on this after practice yesterday. We the fans and drivers are complaining about something that hasn't happened yet. When was the last time a wheel came off due to loose lugs? Not in a long time. The fact is, the penalties for a tire coming off are so great that as soon as you get a vibration you have to pit. NASCAR is right, it is a self policing rule.

First of all, forgive me for not starting an all new Lug Nut Thread.

Anyhow, here's some updated information on this issue.....

NASCAR to talk to teams about lug nut issue

NASCAR will talk to teams today about lug nuts and what changes could be coming, Steve O’Donnell told “The Morning Drive” Monday.

“We’ll look at what immediate steps we can take, particularly pre- and postrace to make sure the lug nuts are on and then continue to evaluate technology in terms of in-race,’’ O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“For us, it’s really concentrating on that last run and there are some things that we can do immediately postrace to look at every car, including the car in victory lane and make sure the lug nuts are secure.’’

So far, no-one has lost a wheel / tire. A race engineer would tell you that constitutes a trend.
