This is only two paragraph's from the story.

"I'm not even going to work on it any more until this season is over - seriously," said Stewart. "All these (outside) things like right now are a total distraction to what I'm trying to accomplish the rest of the season, and that's why I'm not going to do any more than I have to do until the end of the year," he said. "My goal is to win the championship and focus on the things I have to focus on to get that done."

Sources close to Richard Childress confirmed to Captain Thunder that Tony Stewart has indeed had conversations with Richard Childress about joining the RCR stables and good buddy Kevin Harvick as soon as 2008. Stewart has driven Busch Series cars for Harvick and Harvick’s wife DeLana, and the three have been very close for many years.

I can see it happening and it wouldn't surprise me at all.
 
I wouldn't put it past Tony...

... to pay his way out of the contract either.

He'd be a great addition to RCR's already fantastic combination. Get Zippy on board and bring Shane Wilson in and we'll be in championship form. :D

Wonder if Home Depot & ZIppy will follow. He could run the #33 and have the same Nationwide/Spint number!
 
Understandable match and a good one too !!!!!!!!!

Look for Sprint/Nextel to get out of the NASCAR Series sponsorship if the current financial situation doesn't change. Nothing specific but just the observation of a long time, self-employed businessman who feels they are over their head and the sponsorship isn't paying off as expected.

BUT, that being said, no question Homes Despot will follow Tony wherever he goes. Tony is an attention getter and right now, Homes Despot needs attention. Seriously !!!!

I have been thinkning the same thing ever since Tony said he was putting contract talks on hold and RCR said he wanted a fourth car but would not name a driver!!!
 
That rumor was out there a few weeks ago and seemed to go away. So I don't know if this person is rehashing an old rumor or if there really is something to it. If this is still out there in 3 weeks, then I'd say there is something to it.

I doubt Zippy could leave unless Stewart bought out his contract as well. I can't remember how long Home Depot is tied in with JGR. It seems like they signed a new deal just recently, before the Toyota announcement.

I could see him fitting in there, it'd just be crazy to see him in anything other than the current ride he's had!
 
Tony and Kevin wasn't too big of buddy's at the Brickyard. That could be the end of Kevin at RCR.
 
RCR would have 3 strong drivers if Tony goes with him.....Tony, Jeff, and Clint. :)

... Tony and Kevin are great friends. Tony got overaggressive at the Brickyard and decided to hit another car that gave him plenty of room. It was a cheap shot.

That aside, Tony and Kevin can really get along well.

Tony and Zippy have a great relationship, it's hard for me to imagine Tony with a different CC. I would hope Tony would buy out that contract if that's the way he decides to go.

... that it's a done deal, but, don't quote me on that just yet, I'll need to check with my people in Charlotte first.

But, for some reason, this hasn't made any noise here in D.C. Joe Gibbs hasn't commented on this, and Czarniak hasn't reporting anything new.
 
Nothing has came out on this, it doesn't look like this will happen. But if it is going to happen, it will have to be within the next week or two.

Isnt Tony locked in at JGR through next season? The only "rumor" i had heard about this was on Jayski awhile back...and that was Tony would drive the last year of his contract with Chevy aggressively finding another ride for him in 09
 
i guess the rumor that tony said once his contract was up he was probably gonna focus on dirt instead of nascar has died? Maybe its because he needs the income from nascar for operating eldora and macon and the couple others?



I know he has said several times he wont have another crew chief besides zippy so tony would probably do what would allow him to do that. I have been wondering about something like this since i heard that jgr was going to toyota.

Yes, he is signed with JGR through '08. There was talk about them negotiating an extension, but Stewart said he wanted to wait until the Chase was over to concentrate on that.

Tony Stewart has said a lot of things when offering his opinions and off the cuff remarks. They are like the weather, always windy and always changing.
What he says today isn't what he means tomorrow. Tony is not to be taken as someone who is dependable, serious or sincere when expressing his thoughts.

The only constant with Stewart is, today he will sing a tune on any given subject and most likely change the lyrics tomorrow.

To bad the Stewart brain isn't as adroit as the driving ability.

Hi Jim! I tell you what though, I like the JGR team for next year, and hope it works out. Should be interesting to watch.
 
Well no doubt , they will take Toyata a lot further than they were taken this year!!
 
Guys, while Tony's contract runs through 2008, Zippy has resigned his contract and though I don't know for how long, it's for an extended period. Now Tony could buy his way out of his own contract, but the question is, would he be willing to buy out Zippy's contract? I'm sure we'll see something sooner rather than later on all of this.
 
But what kind of clauses are in his contract? If any!! maybe a clause in there tying him to Stewart!!! Who knows?
 
I know Stewart has said that whatever owner he drives for, Zippy is the only crew chief he will ever drive for. And if Zippy left the sport, so would he. So if he were to end up at RCR, it would be a package deal with he and Zippy.
 
Tony wouldn't leave if Zippy did, he might do better withou him anyway...

What makes you think Tony would do better without Zippy? I think Zippy is one of the few people that can probably handle Tony.
