I have finally had it with DirecTv and I won't bore you with the details and other than wanting to go postal at their headquarters I am fine.

Primarily I have used DirecTv for NFL Sunday ticket and NHL Center Ice and watch Netflix through and older Apple TV device. I am so fed up with DirecTv that I am willing to forfeit NFL Sunday Ticket and I believe that I can get some form of NHL programming without a problem.

In looking over some different services Playstation Vue looks like it would be a good option all things considered. I need to purchase a new streaming device but don't know which one. Amazon Fire TV looks good but I would like guidance and opinions please.

When you are answering speak as if you were talking to someone who had just arrived on earth and knew nothing.

Thank you all in advance!

I'm looking into the streaming option as well. One thing we would have in common is the NHL. In my local area, the Penguins are broadcast on Root Sports Pittsburgh. Root Sport Pittsburgh is not available as a streaming service. I looked at getting the NHL package directly from the NHL but only the 'out of market' games are able to be streamed in your local area. Defeated the purpose for me. MLB is under those same strict rules. All the NFL games that I need would already be available OTA, Over The Air, through a UHF antenna. I know this doesn't answer all your questions but it may give you something to consider when it comes to the NHL.

I can't completely cut the cord until the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates are available through a streaming service.

Good luck to you.

When it comes to the NHL and NFL I am in the exact opposite direction of you. I want to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play so that is a piece of cake but I want to see Eagles football games but am out of the home market so I can't. I wonder if I could put a Philly zip code in when signing up lol!

I love my Roku device, and have the lowest Playstation Vue option that I watch. And with my OTA antenna in the attic and PS Vue, I do not miss cable at all.

Thanks for the advice as I have read good things about ROKU.

I have one of those that I use for our 4K set. Love it. It allows you to use available apps to access programming. Like Hulu, Vue, ESPN, etc.....

I watch a lot of college sports. Track and field in particular. I have an app on the ROKU for the Ivy League Digital Network and for something called FloSports. Each of those give me access to content I otherwise would not have on my television. The 4K content that I get through the ROKU is also awesome.

Wow, that sounds really good and thanks for the tips.

What are you guys using for internet service? Phone data? Guess maybe I don't understand the whole concept. If you have to pay $50 a month for decent internet then there isn't much savings?

Well I think most people have internet in addition to Directv/Dish/Cable. So the combined bill was somewhere north of $110 a month. Now with a Roku and Slingtv/Appletv/Playstation Vue, it is somewhere in the $75 ball park total. An extra $35 a month in savings is a pretty good deal to me.

My FIOS bill was around $170, I dropped to internet only at $70, even with everything Vue/Netflix/Amazon, I'm saving a ton.

TWC, now Spectrum $135 month, Internet/Phone/TV bundle. Of course don't even use phone. So if i dropped "bundle" and went to internet only with Playstation Vue still be around $80? Have a smart TV so already paying for Netflix plus have Amazon Prime. OTA channels work just OK here. Little glitchy.

Legally: just get an iPad and download some streaming apps (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Video)

Illegally: Jail Broken Amazon Firestick

Skoal I have an Amazon Fire stick and have Amazon Prime of course which you can download a heap of Apps including Netflix. I love it.
No real sports however but I guess living downunder makes it harder.
I did pay for a year of LucasOil racing App.
