Well, as of the time of this post, 83 percent of people in a quick Twitter poll said “Yes.”

“A lot of times, these cars are just going too fast,” Jones said. “You go to your local short track and the best race of the weekend is the street stocks or vintage cars, because they’re going so slow that they can go everywhere. They can go all over the racetrack.
“We were definitely a step towards that. You could even see people make passes on the outside, which at Indy is pretty unheard of.”
And if you’re looking for a hint from NASCAR whether a similar package might be used in future races, Steve O’Donnell certainly gave all indications the sanctioning body viewed Saturday’s experiment with a smile.
“I think it passed the eye test,” he told reporters. “Some races, you’re going 200 (mph). Some, you’re down in the 100s on a road course. What at the end of the day matters is how many lead changes did we have and was it competitive throughout. And we thought it was today.”

It's a pretty simple concept and you don't have to be Einstein to understand it:

What makes a good, or bad, race is the speed of the cars relative to each other.

Yesterday's Xfinity race was a good race, imo . . . .

we dont need all the HP we have. I forsee going to smaller v8 eventually.

We went from the big block 426-429 down to small block 350's, which today make more hp then the big blocks.
I've advocated dropping down to the 5 liter/302 format for years. Get rid of the plate and stupid splitter, let the guys race.
My eyes might be failing as I can't see the difference between racing at 190 vs 160 but I damn sure can see when the racing is good and when it sucks. My 2¢

Isn't the whole point of racing is to go fast?

Now we're trying to discourage this?

What kind of world am I living in

New NASCAR penalty?

Drivers may only lead 5 laps at a time.

Get one point for leading 5 laps, however if a driver leads more than 5 laps (in a row) they lose a point for each subsquent lap until they get passed. (Or wave the #2 car around to alllow them to lead a lap).
After only one lap the original leader may then re-pass the car he waved-around to retake the lead. He may lead as many 5-lap segments as he wishes (penality free) as long as another car leads the in-between laps.

Teams will have to decide if the lost points for leading too many laps is worth the points earned by leading (fresh air) and/or the win.
This will promote teamwork amongst the drivers and produce a new thrill for spectaters.

Can't you see it? A driver executes his 5-lap lead and there are 12 laps to go to the checker. He has earned some points during the race for his 5-lappers but does not want to give up the lead this late in the race. So the points tick away as the race winds down!

Oh my! This is exciting!
By the way, Brian, there is no charge for this great idea. But please give me credit by calling it Bustedknee's Strategy (it will be known as the BS rule).

I thought the Xfinity race was good and produced some good racing. With that said I'm not so sure about doing it for Cup. I think it works for the Xfinity Series and is a good way to introduce a young driver to a track but it should not be that easy in Cup.

Xfinity is a good place to use as a test bed for changes to the cup cars in the future. It could bring on more track specific changes and play a part in the new cup car they are designing.

Yep, how many lead changes are all that matters. SMDH.

Sheesh, ****** with the points were one thing, atleast you could still enjoy the race. Now every race at a track 1.5 miles and up is going to be a ridiculous manipulated mess.

Meh. I like it, as long as they aren't talladega.
I think a little more throttle response and it would be better, Some of the drivers comments thought that. not bad for the first shot out of the box IMO. Looks like they have something to build on.

Cup series should totally race the style of car that xfinity uses... oh wait..
