Back at Assateague for our end of summer beach trip.....

Last day at the beach. Found a couple conch shells. We never really see that many here that are fully intact. Added these two to our collection.

Not sure if that 1960 was Chevrolets first El Camino or whatever it would been called back in the day. Unique and a good looking car in any case.

One of the first cars I remember was my grandmother's 1960 Impala. Her last car was a 64 Chevy II, she drove it and her snapper riding lawn mower until she was almost 90 years old.
It was a 59. Beautiful car, excellent paint and restoration. I didn’t see the mill but hoped it wasn’t just another LS swap. IMO, the low profile sidewall tires on these older cars look cheap and cartoonish. Maybe I’m a nostalgic old soul…🤷🏻‍♂️
1960 Impala was similar to this 59. Great cars and great styling. That’s why I go look at old cars whenever I can. There’s nothing like them. Today’s styling is ugly. I love the dashes on the old cars. So much detail.

I’d go to a car meet everyday if I could. I saw a few folks looking at my 72 short bed today.
I got a few lines on some body shops today. Maybe I’ll get one of my cars painted soon.

I love them and the dashes too, they were as good as any art I have ever seen. I am currently thinking the old 50s Fords in the early 50s. If my memory is correct they had a little clock in the center dash board. That kind of stuff was just great imo.

I took this pic of an Edsel dash this morning. Push button gear selection in the center of the steering wheel. Spinner speedo. Ahead of its time in the late 50s.

People go to a lot of trouble to get most details accurate and then slap on anachronistic wheels and tires. Can't they get whitewalls?
There are some people that still have taste. Unfortunately a lot of these “car guys” take their car to someone and get a complete restoration.
That’s the problem that I’m having finding a place that will bodywork and paint my trucks. Most are complete restomod shops that bolt parts onto a pre-fabbed frame, aftermarket brake systems, rack and pinion IFS. It’s difficult to find a shop that actually restores vintage cars.
I’ve done all of the work on my short bed; mini-tub wheel wells in the bed, c-notch rear frame, fuel tank relocation, OEM disc brake upgrade, lowered front I-beams. Most people would buy a spec frame with ifs, irs, rack and pinion. There’s nothing really left of the old car but the sheet metal. For my 63, I want to retain the straight axle in the front; I think that’s what I love most about the truck. Leaf spring front end with stock rebuilt steering box, no p/s and updated disc brakes. 466” carbureted mill with 3-speed automatic. 9” rear end with a locker.
What’s not to love? 🤷🏻‍♂️
