Talladega Race Thread

I used to not like Brad. At first it was because he was ****y and squirrely. Later, it was because FB liked him and FB and I had a beef :D Since then, I realized I was being irrational, owned-up and extended the olive branch to FB. Then I saw real driver talent in Brad. He drove his ass off last season and won my respect (Brad, not FB.)
I don't do Facebook, Twitter or any other BS social media. I hope Brad looses his infatuation with social media and focuses on his best talent; driving racecars.
Brad is good for the sport and is part of the future of NASCAR.

You and I had a beef? When? :)

I still think he is a huge talent who hasn't shown all he can do, but he seems to be hooked on conspiracy theories this year. It's almost like he needs a controversy to get motivated, but jumping Ragan after a career saving win like that is pure sh!t. Brad knows damn well nascar lines everyone up where they belong, and that's that. Turns out he disagreed with nascars call and decided to blame it on Ragan, which is a crappy thing to do.

Um...no. Plate racing is a crapshoot, at best. Matt has led hundreds more laps than any other driver this season and David got lucky. There was no snookering involved.

I have to disagree. Dave made a great move to get around Carls blocking, then Gilliland made a great move to get Carl off their quarter panels and send him way up the track. Here's a fun fact. Kez is whining about being put in the low lane, but Gilliland started behind him....in the low lane.

Brad may have been in the heat of the moment after a hairy plate race. I say look at his effort last season and cut him some slack. The 2013 season is young and there's plenty of racing left. A lot of drivers have had bad luck, some have had only good luck. Some have made their own luck. I like the season so far and I'm looking forward to the rest of it.
Plate racing sucks butt and breeds controversy. On to the real racing!!

I know, but I'm like this. If a driver annoys me enough, I switch to one of my other favorites until they get their head together. Strike one for Brad was his comments toward AJ almendinger last year. Then he went on a misinformed nascar rant to start this year, followed by that bizarre curse filled rant at Texas. Now he attacks David Ragan when he knows damn well the situation was controlled by nascar.

I gotta admit, Ragan was all over the place on the last lap, making sure he had EVERYBODY blocked. I think at some point he even blocked DW :D

Crap, that's it???? Try staying a Kyle Busch fan for the past ten years

lol I couldn't do it. I was a fan when he arrived and put up with his nonsense as long as I could. I even fell for the JGR 'new kyle' show in 2009, but took a pass in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He is showing some change, but I have a feeling I'll never be able to root for him or Carl again.

I dug the race. I like crashes, I like that the races are close and that almost any driver can win. It's only four races a year, The drivers get through it and still love when they win one. I'm not saying it takes a ton of talent to win at Daytona or Dega' but with how good some teams are at other tracks, I think it's hard to judge talent when other teams don't have all the funding to do what Hendrick, Gibbs have.

As long as no one gets hurt, I think they do add some entertainment to the races.. for me anyway and they also add to the strategy of the races.. Like Harvick doesn't win last week without a caution, or in today's case, without that debris caution or big one #2, Ragan doesn't win.

OK, you're probably right on Matt. I just went back to the interview and replay and Matt was just trying to move outside to get around Carl and didn't see how great of a run the FRM cars had off of 2. Edwards though...both Ragan and Gilliland put some impressive moves on him.

I'm with you. Sort of.
A lot of people forget that what precipates crashes is close, hard racing, paybacks, desperate moves, etc. That in itself is good for NASCAR racing. It's just that most times crashes are the end result.
No one wants to see anyone get hurt, even if you dislike a certain driver.
That said, I'm glad Kurt Busch was struck on the undercarriage of his car and not the other way around.
That could've been bad.

Agreed. hard racing crashes breed rivalries and feuds. Fans can pick sides.. I mean the Yarbourgh/Allison fight will always be remembered and that moment doesn't happen if Allison wins the race by 3 seconds..

I love close finishes more then anything so when a guy has a 3 second lead with a few laps left at a mile and 1/2 track, I'm hoping for a caution and some drama... Excitement is what makes any sport great.

on a somewhat related note to your post, 15 years ago that Busch crash is much worse.. Sadly, it's taken tragedy to make the sport safer.

15 years ago would put us circa 1998. For what unfortunate incident do you refer to?
Charlotte?

I was saying in general. Obviously, Dale's Death has alot to with the safer environment that Nascar is right now.

Who knows? 15 years ago, Kurt's car is probably a heap of sheet metal. I was surprised at how intact it still was.

I think the HANS device has played a big role in driver safety.

Look at all the race car drivers who died from basilar skull fractures. Ayrton Senna, Scott Brayton, Greg Moore, Goznalo Rodriguez, Adam Petty, Dale Earnhardt and more. Anchoring the neck to the shoulders is the way to go. The HANS device is brilliant.

Too much credit is given to the car and softer walls and not enough to the HANS. NO driver has died since hans became mandatory, and that happened 4 or 5 years before the CoT and softer walls.

Great race, was out of town all weekend and just watched. Was hoping for a couple more cautions to get the 24 dialed in but still. Did not expect that one-two finish. That's crazy! They have to still be raging! I'm really glad we're going to Darlington though...as a spectator, RP racing takes years off my life

Wrecks are part of racing so if people enjoy them, that's their business. Nascar's business is to sell them. How many times did we see Edwards getting into the catch fence yesterday?

The wrecks at these restrictor plate tracks it what drives the television numbers for those four events each year. The numbers are always higher than the race that precede or follow a restrictor plate event. There are many of us out here that watch the race simply because it's a race but there are also many that tune into these four events just because of the notorious 'Big ONE'. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Great to see a new face in victory lane.

I'd rather see someone get excited about crashes than listen to those who incessantly bitch, moan, complain, harp, whine and wail EVERY race weekend about EVERY minute detail of Nascar.
Also about, Fox, Speed, Espn, Cbs, and the Playboy channel.:)

Damn, what a crazy finish! Nice to see Front Row Motorsports get a 1-2 finish. Also nice to see Aric doing very constistant. I forsee a win for him beofre the year is done, and frankly, I would go nuts if he made the chase. GO ALMIROLA!

Nice pic of these 1, 2 drivers this past weekend.

He managed to come in 10th after getting shuffled out in Turn 1 on the last lap. That makes four straight Top 10s now. Very impressive.

@nascarcasm
If your internet is moving slow, it's because media members are all simultaneously MapQuesting directions to Front Row Motorsports.
