Talladega two-step --- RACE thread

Well a black Earnhardt affiliated car won today's race, I reckon that'll have to do since Jr's not going to win before the season ends... Congrats to Jamie & EGR on the victory...
 
Congratulations Jamie Mac! Jr. waited just a little bit too long to make his move. The last 15 laps was about as exciting as it gets, waiting for someone to go for it. They must have been told to be patient.

Amazed and glad that Austin wasn't hurt when his car landed after getting hit by Mears. From the replay, it looked like he was still moving forward (track direction not where his car was pointing) fast enough so it was a 'glancing' blow. Maybe improvements to the seat after Denny's injury?

Seeing the super slomo replay again now, and the 14 was definitely loose and going out of control before the 17 barely touched him.

I thought Junior might get it today but it didnt seem like a chance ever materialized. He did a good job today IMO

he was in the top 5 all day, I was impressed, if Austin didn't screw up, he might have won the thing. 19th in points, not bad, Austin gave the 14 a good fast ride, I was beginning to wonder with Martin driving the 14 if Tony's team was making junk. Austin was solid all day, made one mistake that cost him. Looking forward to him being in cup next year.

He makes some boneheaded move that hurts him at least once in almost every race. Today he entered pit row in the wrong lane but at least knew enough to blame it on himself and not his pit crew. Listening to that audio made me think of the guy I read about in the news lately who decided to start wearing his gun in his waistband to impress the ladies. The first (and only) time he did it, it accidentally went off and shot him in the stones.

Its Talladega so I wont give him much credit. Even Mears was in the top 5 at some point. lol

Although I will say he has done better than Martin in just two tries. (Martin got a top 10 at Richmond)

If dillions hat hadn't fallen over his eyes he would have stayed with Junyer and finished second,,maybe even won. But he had delusions of grandeur.

Gibson: “I was doing the best I could do with your spotter. I was letting him know what we needed to do. He was doing his best to get you down.”

Dale Earnhardt spotter T.J. Majors with one lap left: “Single file, still no takers left. … 14 is blocking the 17. He blocked him, he blocked him. They’re wrecking in your mirror, they’re wrecking in your mirror. Just the 14 spun. No pressure, no pressure. … Caution’s out. We’ll be second.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. : “I was backing up there in 1 and 2. I was going to try to get my run in the back so I could do my juking and jiving on a flat surface.”

Crew chief Steve Letarte : “I’m with you. If the 14 would have got a straight shot, I think we would have been turbo bound.”

Earnhardt: “I think I could have made a pass. I hate he got turned around there.”

Danica Patrick after race: “I’m sorry. I know it’s disappointing. I’m extremely disappointed. These are the races that I look for good results. Tony gave me a fast car. We’ve got to think about what we want to do when it comes to pitting and I’ve got to think about what I’ve got to do to make sure that I do what needs to be done.”

Gibson: “We’ll talk about it in the truck.”

Austin Dillon acting crew chief Greg Zipadelli after Dillon’s last-lap wreck: “Hell of a job. … You can’t help stupid.”

Austin Dillon : “It was fun. I brought you the wheel back. That’s about it.”

Spotter Bob Jeffrey : “Good job, young man. You’ve got a big, big future here.”

Matt Kenseth after losing several spots in final 10 laps: “Freaking disaster. Sorry.”

Crew chief Jason Ratcliff : “That’s all right, man. It’s not your fault. We’re at the mercy of everybody else here. Everybody did all they could do.”

Kenseth: “I should have rode right behind the 16 and finished 10th. But they all said they were going to go. And if we got seven or eight cars, we would have gone straight to the front. I don’t really understand the mentality. I guess I should have done the same thing and not raced, I guess.”

Ratcliff: “That’s not what got us here, man. We got here by racing. That’s what we’ve got to stick, too.”
 
I want to thank all the drivers who didnt drop to the bottom and push Kenseth to a win .................. You guys ROCK !!!

Was out of town all weekend, hid my phone. Came home tonight, just finished the race. Way to go Jamie Mac. Big weekend for Chip.
