The Announcement

I'm 19th in points, 2-3 hundred+ points behind 10th. I stayed out under caution and won a rain shortened race. I take the 11th spot on the chase bumping that guy to 12th and the original 12th place finisher out?? Remember that 12th place finisher has won more points than me but doesn't have a win. But he's been more consistent, finishing higher.

This should be called the "Harvick screw job positions"

Told you before, he's going to keep fixing until it's broken beyond repair.

I'd say it rewards winning which is what people seem to want:D

Consistent = Boring.

Not all the time. What Nascar should of done is just let the top twelve in on points. Why mess around with it again? Should of got rid of the top 35 rule too, but guess that will never happen. The older I get the less I like Cup, looks like I'll be watching just the highlights this year and visiting the local tracks even more.

I still love NASCAR but I am going to drop several of my season thickets this year.

Because Jamie Mac won 3 races and didn't make the Chase and we all know they are out to reward winning this year.

when the chase begins, the drivers in the chase should only race each other not the whole field. give the highest placing chaser 12 points the lowest 1 point.

How many points did he have versus the 11th and 12th place guys in the chase?

After the 26th race @ Richmond the points to qualify for the Chase were.....

11 - Clint Bowyer - 3221
12 - Greg Biffle - 3177
13 - Ryan Newman - 3079
14 - Jamie McMurray - 3050

So if that were the case for 2011 he would of bumped out Biffle correct, even though Biffle had more points?

If that is true and the way they are going to do it for 2011, that's truly F'ed up!

I guess these drivers/teams all know that going into 2011. Those drivers/teams that are down near the bottom of that top 12 had better bust their a$$ to get a win or two or three to maintain that position.

So if a team wins 2 races (hypothetically), they are a part time team, run only 24 out of the 36, and aren't in the top 20 in pts. Then they aren't eligble for the Chase...correct? So how is that rewarding winning?

That's true.

They are awarding the winners that actually are devoting time to the series. Do you really want someone that is only racing the series part time to make the Chase? I know I wouldn't.

Well that team that is part time is still busting their ass for those 24 races, just doesn't make sense to me. Then again the way Nascar has been run in the past 15 years hasn't made much sense to me either.

So how about this scenario..... Borris Said gets into a car for Jr. Motorsports @ Sonoma & Watkins Glen and wins both races. Those are the only two races that he runs through the first 26. Nobody else outside of the top 12 has even a single win. Does Borris deserve to be running for the championship?

If you are awarding wins ....then YES.

Positions 11 and 12 are "wild card" qualifiers and will go to non-top-10-ranked drivers with the most wins, as long as they're ranked in the top 20 in points.

Thanks but I already know that. You may have to go back a few more posts to see what we were talking about.

gotcha, thought you were dealing with what the rule actually was.

No, we were just throwing some thoughts around. Personally, I don't really have an issue with this new rule. I think that it has the potential to create some pretty good story lines heading into the later part of the regular season.
