It sems like every race we are being talked down to by the announcers.

I know what tight/ loose is I don't need it explained every race.

The rules explained every damn race.

Sponsors for everything now a days. tHAT HAVE TO BE SAID (LOOKING TA YOU LARRY MAC)

hATED WHEN HE WOULD SAY SOMETHING LIKE "tHERE'S THE 18 TOYOTA M AND M CAR OF KYLE BUSCH" OR " THERES KEVIN HARVICK IN THE 29 JIMMY JOHNS CAR"

or get those "4 fresh goodyear tires and sunoco fuel here during the coca cola 600 at lowes motor speedway

i dont know why but the announcing NOW is so much worse than what it was in the old pre 2001 television contract days

Go watch a old race on youtube, announcers didnt talk every second. if something didnt need to be said they let the racing speak. If the race was boring they didnt play stupid and try to generate that it was a exciting race

Its just a shame how much the announcing has gone downhill

I know what tight/ loose is I don't need it explained every race.

The rules explained every damn race.

Us diehards may not need these explained, but casual/first timers do. I think it has been pretty obvious over the past decade that NASCAR has catered towards the casual viewing audience, thus the reason why everything needs to be explained on a regular basis. The root cause is a NASCAR issue and the primary symptom is a race commentary issue.

Speaking of commentary, the trio in the NBC booth is AWFUL. I cannot stand Allen, Burton, or Letarte.

It's all over saturated with sponsorship, but I at least like the Fox broadcast team. Gordon did great this year and Mike Joy is the best in the business. The NBC team is getting old already for me. Needs more personality and less talking the race up and more just straight up information.

Race coverage is insulting but the "4 Goodyear Tires" and "Sunoco Fuel" thing is all because Nascar took the money and when you do that someone else owns you.

Those 3 are the worst ever.

i cant stand NBC

Notorious for trying to make everything sound like such a huge deal.

like i dont know it's just annoying

I'd rather have fox

ned benny and bob will never be beat though

great chemistry

Fox is waaaay better than nbc... "GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR" That got old even in the truck races!

I think both Fox and NBC have done a great job this year.

Jeff Gordon added a bunch to the booth on Fox. I just wish Darrell Waltrip would quit interrupting and challenging everything Jeff Gordon says and/or retire.

Rick Allen ... I would rather see Ralph Sheheen in the booth, but I'm fine with either. All I'll say is that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how atrocious the Truck Series broadcasts are without Rick Allen in the booth.

I like Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte. They add relevant commentary and they don't challenge everything they say.

NBC's production is top notch. Their cameras have a zoom out function. They use aerial footage and wide shots. They don't rely exclusively on in-car cameras. Their graphics are far and away better, and more informative.

Fox's coverage was good this year, with the exception of the Waltrip duo. Their XFINITY and Truck Series broadcasts, however, are atrocious.

.
And all that comes down to one thing, the director, since FOX and NBC are using the same camera's per say( same production company).

Not to mention NBC devotes almost an hour and a half for post race coverage , vs FOX/FS1 and its off the air as soon as possible and are lucky to get Victory Lane , I dont think FOX aired Victory for the last month and a half of their portion , but now , since NBC took over, its been every week:laugh:

Who are you and what have you done with the real @AndyMarquisLive ?

I don't watch pre-race or postrace. Pre-race coverage has been an abomination for years. NBC does an okay job with it. There are too many talking heads on the pre-race shows offering up opinions and not enough interviews with drivers. It's like watching Fox News and seeing five people offer up opinions on everything and not actually report the news. Postrace coverage is the same ****.

I turn the race on once I see the weekly Twitter bitchathon over the National Anthem.

My point was that NBC gives people that want to watch post race coverage , a decent amount of it vs FOX that has very little most weeks.

Now, with that out of the way, yes, both pre and post are pretty much filler of talking heads giving their opinions of the race, with very little interviews, and the only times I really watch pre race is for Saturday night races, or races on Sundays that start later in the afternoon. I just dont want to get up that much earlier to watch pre race anymore.

I had pre-race on earlier just because.

Fox is awesome honestly, NBC sucks. Just not a very exciting broadcast team

I would like Fox's broadcast team more than NBC if someone invented an app that would mute the TV only when Darrell Waltrip was talking. :booya:

One thing I like about Rick Allen, Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte is that, if I'm in the other room and just listening to it, they're still informative enough for me to know what's going on. And they call the races clearly.

Darrell Waltrip screaming like a psycho during the final laps of a race gets on my nerves. I can't remember the last time Mike Joy actually got to call the finish of an exciting race. Probably that time Mark Martin won the Daytona 500. :idunno:

My drinking phrase is Rick Allen saying "AB-so-LUTE-ly." Some weeks I'm hung over until Wednesday, LOL.

Still, I don't have much energy for complaining about either network, because I remember 10 minutes a few weeks later on Wide World of Sports. My point is, even the lesser of the networks (NBC) still gives me pretty darn good coverage.

Like drivers who play ''chugging for cash'' during interviews I heard a long time ago Goodyear and Sunoco pay nascash each time they're mentioned

It's free, I see what happens, and they interview the drivers afterward. As long as I get all that with clear reception I'm happy. Sponsors pay for it so gotta put up with it.

rick allen is dreadful

car gets a little loose "HES SIDEWAYS!"

ill never forget jeff buton spending 10 consecutive minutes talking about how loudon is such a difficult track

Not to take this in another direction but it's not just NASCAR. The other sports are just as bad. ESPN has a big rectangle superimposed over the catcher to show you where they think a strike should be, for Pete's sake. If you think racing commentary is insulting to your intelligence, go listen to somebody tell you about a "downhill runner" for 3 hours or explain the intricacies of the infield fly rule.

I don't follow MLB so IDK what goes on with that but the NFL broadcasts are good as if the little used flea flicker is called they don't explain it nor do they explain things like bubble screens, throwing into double coverage or what the shotgun formation is. If Nascar was in charge we would be seeing animations of these things ad nauseum.

As far as a downhill runner goes it isn't explained as a fan is expected to know that DeMarco Murray is a downhill runner and LeSean McCoy isn't.

mike joy may mail it in at times but rick allen is nowhere near mike joy even on a bad day for mike joy

I'm sure many of us remember when the booth crew would include the race sponsor's name when discussing the event. That doesn't happen much these days. I suspect it may be that the race sponsors are now asked by the networks to pay to get mentioned, instead of being included in the sponsorship deal when tracks managed their own TV coverage.

Marty reid was legendary for6this

The crown royal presents the backyard400 at Indianapolis speedway is green!!!

Or

The the autoparts 500 presented by duracell at texas speedway is now green!!!

Professional auto racing has been fully commercialized for quite some time.

Deal with it because complaining is futile.

I thought the NBC, rrrah, USA Helicopter coverage as they went around the track was "GREAT". Plus the feet cams are always good at road courses.

As to the thread title, there will always be for and against no matter who is airing the series or in the booth, both FOX and NBC have their pluses and minuses.

What in this world hasn't changed since 2001?

Seriously though, I generally like the announcers on both FOX and NBC. Both crews need to shut up and let Mike Joy and Rick Allen do the talking during critical moments, that's their job not yours DW (NBC does way better at this).

There is one thing I've noticed in Youtube replays of old races that we don't have now; crowd noise. It seems like in the past the networks had a mic focused on the stands during restarts or other crucial times. Either that or just crowds were just obscenely loud back then but not likely. Go back and watch the finish of the 2001 pepsi 400 and hear the roar of the crowd as JR takes the lead even over 43 screaming race cars and the race broadcast.

Why does this matter? Quite simply, as a fan watching on TV it makes me want to be there at the track. It gives fans a sense of the (electric) atmosphere that you can only get by being there. I guess that's why we can't have that on our broadcasts, just stay home and watch on TV folks so we can bombard you with ads.

I'm guessing the older broadcasts were done from locations open to the outside, as opposed to today's sealed booths and the abominations that are infield trailers.

I've noticed they never air Victory Lane when FS1 airs the race itself. The last VLane ep I had on my DVR before NBC came back was from the 600. And the same thing happened last year.

That said, I also noticed NBCSN doesn't air Victory Lap at all during Fox's portion of the season, so Fox has that to their credit.

I think the camera angles and footage by NBC were pretty good when they are not at commercial, but I'm not a fan of the announcers. Jeff Burton is just boring to listen to. He drones on way too much. And the other two just can't call a race. Whatever happened to just describing what you see on the track and talking fast enough to do it? Not, "Green Flag is in the air!" I'm not a fan of DW but I thought Gordon did a pretty good job this year and I like the fact that they don't agree sometimes. It makes it feel like you are watching the race with friends or on this forum. Not everyone agrees, that's ok.

Change is OK but the idea is to improve.
