The Cannery Showdown

Drivers from nine different states and Canada will be represented at this weekend's Cannery Showdown at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Drivers from Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Virginia and Canada will participate in the Cannery Showdown.

The Showdown includes the VP Racing Fuels Super Late Model Championship, IMCA Modified Pavement Nationals and the Mechanix Wear Speed Truck Challenge.

The 140-lap Super Late Model event is one of the biggest in the country. Current NASCAR stars Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch and Brendan Gaughan have competed in this event in past years. The Mechanix Wear Speed Trucks will run 199 laps and the IMCA Modified will run a 40-lap feature.

Qualifying, heat races and C-main event features are set for Friday, Oct. 24. General admission prices are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and military personnel and $3 for children 6-12.

A-main and B-main features are set for Saturday, Oct. 25. General admission prices are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and military personnel and $5 for children 6-12.

A two-day general admission pass can be purchased for $18 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and military personnel and $6 for children 6-12. Children five and under are free both days. Race fans attending the NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip will receive $5 off all tickets at the Bullring.

Here's one for ya Muggie.....if I do this right????

The car on the outside (tho repainted) is Kurt and Kyle's old number 04 currently driven by Mike Cofer that all three have set qualifying records in and the one in which Kyle took 11 wins in 16 starts prior to Jack calling halfway thru the 2001 season.

On the inside is Kyle running the Rob Cobb/Orleans #4 car druing one of his returns to The Bullring earlier in the year.

Good photo of K&K's old car. I have a photo of the "corkscrew" at Laguna Seca (my favorite track) but I don't know if i am permitted to show it since it is not really a Nascar track.

I didn't take that picture but I've got some great old shots from Riverside.

The Corkscrew is one of the best turns in all of motorsports ranking right up there with old Riverside's Turn Nine and what some call Fish Oil at Monaco. At one time it was a sharp left on coblestones where fish guts from the market are washed across the street in to the bay.

Anyways, just about time for me to start getting ready to go. Gonna be a beautiful night for racing.

Well dang, being on the tight budget that we are it has been decided that I should forgo tonights activities.

Oh what the heck, here is the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. Guess who is in the 07 car. She finished ahead of Brian Simo but behind Boris Said, Paul Gentilozzi, and Willy T. Ribbs. On one lap a car went sideways on the corkscrew, the next car went right and into the grass and dirt, Marybeth did some outstanding driving and went left to avoid the "sideways car" and stayed on the track and hardly missed a beat. I promise no more non-Nascar related photos from me although it is hard as I was having the time of my life in season 2000.

And I can't imagine that showcasing a driver who has aspirations of going nascar racing ain't nascar related.

and btw, I've checked up her a bit.....nice eyes....Women in racing have always intrigued me. Even used a buddy's wife to drive drag brackets years back. The girl was downright steady. Might not have the killer dive in the corner 4 wide attitude but when it comes to taking what the car will give I'll stick with the women every time.
