The end.

Look at it this way. Being from New England, Im a big Patriots fan. If Tom Brady was traded to New York, do you think I would root for the Giants?
When Bernard Pollard was released by the Ravens, i didn't stop wearing his jersey, i still wear it because he is one of my favorite Ravens ever, and i will always like him, no matter who he plays for

This kind of thing used to happen alot more.but Nascar is a business and you can't hold it against someone who wants to further their career. It's not like Carl hates ford, in fact, he probably couldn't even go to Penske if he wanted to.

If you believed the lip service though you're a fool. Carl is a salesman and he does that very well.

I agree it feels kinda "weird" to think of Carl in a Toyota, and my wife especially hates it (along with at least one of his new teammates....), but we will both cheer him on next year and in the future.
He's one hell of a driver and I like watching him go to work on the track. I think he's made a great move.
I'd bet money he'll win a championship at jgr.

Really? Im not the only one that begs to differ. Matter of fact, The person who co-owns the race team in your avatar hated Toyota so much he created his own race team.

The Toyota years were the dark years for Stewart, but I sure don't remember him saying much about Toyotas when he drove one for a bit. He didn't have a choice to drive them and he got out as soon as he could. At least Tony didn't get on there and say that Fords build the best cars, "drive one" and all that and then jumps ship when a bit of tough times come a calling.. When ol Carl pulls that with the exploda's I believe I will throw up in my mouth a bit.

A driver's job just isn't to drive the car anymore it is to sell what is on their car. Ford was a big sponsor for Carl, what else do you think he would say. Just like other sponsors the contract ended and partnerships ended. You don't think that if Ford wanted to keep Carl they would have? Carl leaving is just as much on Ford as it is on Carl.

You hand me millions of dollars and I'd even tell you a Dodge is a decent vehicle!

I've always rooted for drivers rather than any particular brand of vehicle. What brand gets these guys to the finish line makes no difference to me so the brand loyalty is hard for me to understand.

I guess vehicle brands are important to some but for me I look for reliability, power, fuel consumption & fun factor depending on my needs. I'd hate to be limited to a particular brand to purchase. We've got a GMC pickup, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cobalt, Mini Cooper & Jeep Wrangler Rubicon sitting in my garage and driveway. They were all great choices for our needs.

When my favorite driver Ernie Irvan switched from my beloved Chevrolet to Ford, I was pissed. I still cheered for Ernie but he was no longer my favorite when he left Chevy. Granted I was only 7 years old, but I digress.

Jeff Gordon is my all time favorite driver, and I would still be upset if he left Chevy (luckily that will never happen). But even if he did, there's no way in hell he would stop being my favorite.

That being said, I do come from an old school, brand loyal family, so I totally understand where you're coming from. Especially since its Carl Edwards who we're talking about, who has always struck me as the biggest phony in racing.

I am a Texans fan and if Andre Johnson ever left for the Colts, Titans, or Jags and won a Super Bowl I'd be cheering him on the whole freaking way.

Im going to assume you dont understand the Patriots/Giants thing, thats why I made that analogy.

I am that way about racetracks myself. they all have their good points and bad points.

I didnt think he was phony. Until now.

I cheered for Joe Montana MORE once he was traded to the chiefs. Felt he was done wrong by the niners. Plus as a saints fan, I hated the niners with all my soul. BUT still could appreciate Joes skill.

Ok, since Patriots/Giants didnt work...

David Ortiz gets traded to the Yankees. Would I root for the Yankees? NO!!!

Hey, it's your personal preference either way. Logano is not a bad driver to root for. You'll probably be glad you did in a few years when he wins 3 or 4 championships.

When Bobby Hebert was traded to the hated falcons, I wanted him to succeed..EXCEPT when playing against the saints.

In the end, its your call Benz. All anyone in this thread can do is say what THEY would do. You have to do what you want to do and what you feel in your heart

I do believe Tony had what is called a conflict of interest when Gibbs changed manufactures. All of Tony's race teams outside of NASCAR were GM contracted something had to change and Toyletta didn't pony up.

Manufacturer loyalty in NASCAR is similar to AFL or NFL loyalty in football or American League or National League in baseball; it used to mean a lot to people and they were fiercely loyal to their favourite. Now it doesn't mean much to anyone because drivers move around and teams change manufacturers.

Still means alot to me. I guess growing up in New England, I learned what being a die-hard sports fan is. Anyone that left and went to another team, especially a division rival, was considered a traitor. Wes Welker, Johnny Damon and Ray Allen all come to mind. I think the only exception MAYBE was Drew Bledsoe. But he went to Buffalo and... well, thats where good players go to die.

Be a fine day when football season starts and the so called racing experts disappear, be like taking a really good B.M. clean out the ol pipes..rah rah sis cum bah. burp.

Im in Central Florida, there are plenty of Ford dealers. They dont pay their techs. Period.

You was never a Carl fan. I'm a Chevy guy, I like Chevy cars, trucks, etc. But one driver I have always rooted for was Jeff Burton, even when he drove a Ford. I like drivers who drive Ford's and Toyota's not just Chevy's. You're a Ford fan, never a Carl fan.

Absolutely. The manufacturer thing is big with me. Im a Ford guy from a Ford family, and thats the end of it. BTW, im not leaving anything. Carl is leaving Ford.
There's nothing wrong with being brand loyal.

Drivers have to promote whatever product that sponsors them, it's a driver skill these days (and Carl is one of the better pitch men). For some stupid reason I'm thinking of Bert Reynolds in a chicken suit (movie ref).
