The end.

Edwards, like every other driver, is who he is. If he's a jerk, he's a jerk. If he's a saint, he's saint. Changing the manufacturer the car you drive/race doesn't change the person anymore than changing the brand of underwear you wear.

Nor does a driver suddenly become good or bad depending on whether or not I'm his or her fan.

To each their own I guess. I'm obviously a Toyota guy, but I still root for Truex even though he's in a Chevy now, and I've been a Bowyer fan since 2006, even though he spent many years with the bowtie brigade. A lot of people are still hung up on Toyota being in NASCAR, and that's fine. I guess it's just a matter of what's most important to you, manufacturer or driver.

I bet a lot of the people who are mad about Toyota in Nascar because they see it as Non American, own at least one thing that's not made in America or from a company that's not American.

not really, he came across like a died in the wool Ford guy, he endorsed Ford more than any driver in history, every interview he went on and on about how great Fords were. i gave him the benifit of that doubt and thought he was trying to put a positive spin and keeping the morale up for his team. When he abruptly jumped ship, that is when I thought he was/is a weasel.

Im sure I'll get flamed for this but here goes. Its been a good run but I've come to the conclusion that there is just no way I can root for a Toyota next year. Followed Carl since he was unsponsored in the truck series, but I guess im just too die-hard Ford. It will be an emotional week for me in Homestead this year, and I'll ofcourse still root for him till next season. But lets face it, his chances at Roush are slim and none. Joey, meet your newest fan.

Carl will still be Carl but I get yer point, I used to be brand specific back when a Chevy was a Chevy, now days I could care less

Gets tough when you stick n ballers have to talk about racing for a change, now it is who is foreign and what? Of course the brand doesn't make any difference, brand means nothing in stick n ball.

Im in Central Florida, there are plenty of Ford dealers. They dont pay their techs. Period.

Then you really aren't brand loyal and went to where the money is, Carl didn't do anything different and he didn't have as many choices that you had.

He didn't change who he was Monday night. Perception of him may have changed but he didn't.

I dont think you guys would have the same attitude if your people went to Toyota, and were teammates with two of the biggest douchebags in the game.
:) Been there... I prefer Ford now .. Although I May back a bowtie some day if necessary.. Like Danicafreak .. I back my driver regardless... I get the whole manufacturer loyalty thing... Not for me

He kind of asked for it by creating this thread didn't he?
Pretty much. The OP is entitled to his opinion, and he can root for whoever he wants for whatever reason he wants. His opinion is an unpopular one on here, though, so he's gonna catch some heat for it.

I couldn't help but LOL when I saw the 22 pic in his avatar. Looks like ol' Slice has a new buddy. :)

For the record, I was all about Fords when I was younger thanks to my dad, but as I got older I stopped caring about manufacturers. Naturally, my dad couldn't stand Chevys. I remember ordering a Jimmie Johnson hat online one time, and the day it came, I found the box in my room with the words "don't do it, son!" written across the top in magic marker. LOL.

Everything she does with a car is chev--she even bought a chev tahoe for herself.

But the more I think about it I do understand.

I was fan in the late 80s of the NASCAR pontiac cause I liked how they looked. In the old days it made more of a difference even HP at that time. But I know now, Id follow my driver anywhere.

As a Chevrolet fan I wish she drove a different brand, and stopped embarrassing the most dominant race car brand that Nascar has ever known.

I look at it is chev will have the distinction of being the make of car that the first female winner of a NASCAR race drove :D

And that will be in same race that 42 cars all wreck and DNF:lol2:

Lol that's so dumb pulling for a manufacturer. You are placing your fan hood behind an inanimate object. I love lamp

Exactly. It wasn't just him thanking his sponsors, mentioning the Fusion, etc. He would go wayyy out of his way to make a point about how superior Fords were compared to the other manufacturers, how their race engines are the most reliable, most powerful, best fuel mileage, etc. Yes he's a good pitchman, but this Ford leg humping happened almost every single interview. I remember during one race where there was a rain delay, Carl was up in the booth for whatever reason and he talked about how hard his dick was for Ford for at least 10 minutes.

It's one of many reasons why I think he's a phony. Over the years there have been several reports of him being a pretentious, insecure, roid rage, self absorbed control freak. Who knows how true they are but it wouldn't shock me if they were. He tries to play the squeaky clean guy and I've just never bought it.

Hell, shouldn't they all act like that? I mean damn. I can't see how sometimes any of em have sponsors. I mean, it looks like it would be in the contract to extoll the virtues of whatever product. I know I'd be saying how much I loved all the **** and how much it helped me win a race.
I very rarely see commercials with the guys and their products, so, I'm not always sure how much bang for the buck they're getting.

People dont understand....it's no different than pulling for your favorite sport team. All that team is, is a business. If your a fan of the Carolina Panthers or whoever your a fan of that business and that never changes even though the team members.....I.E. the QB is the Driver and if your a fan of him then that's fine. Learn to respect that some people love the manufacturer becuase they have loyalty to that just like a football fan would.

When Tony drove a Toyota, I don't recall him mentioning them a single time over the course of the year. He didn't say anything disrespectful about them, but he wasn't a poser acting like Toyota was the greatest car in the world. You can attract a ton of big $$$ sponsors without making yourself look like a joke in the process. Now when Carl gets all gung ho about Toyota, a lot of people will just roll their eyes and think he's a clown.

The whole reason this whole topic is so crazy to me is the fact that regardless of what the cars are branded as, they aren't ****** stock cars. We are talking about a bunch of generic race cars that are build to go face than manipulated a bit to look somewhat like a manufactured car.
