I don't agree obviously, but I respect where you are coming from. Really do. I have been a NASCAR fan for years, but intensely since Toyota entered. When they announced that they were coming, I winced because I knew that I would have to listen to the anti-Toyota bull****. However, I looked forward to the manufacturer pride that was so NASCAR. It wasn't there. I know the reasons. I don''t agree with them.

To be fair, Ford has a new tech center opening this year that will feature NASCAR's first F1-esque simulator, and F1-esque "mission control" room, and will serve as a parts distribution warehouse. All of the teams, even those like Front Row Motorsports, can use it so it lives up to the whole "One Ford" thing. GM is opening a similar campus next year that will be home to engineers working on powertrain-related NASCAR projects.

And everyone knows how Toyota is heavily involved with NASCAR with their TRD division.

No, it's not the best series for brand identity or manufacturer involvement anymore. Not even close, really. But it's also not like they just slap different stickers on the car and call it a day either.
 
Its simple without theae manufacturers there would be no drivers to support because the seriez would no where be a big

If you come from the perspective that manufacturer loyalty is dependent upon the stockness of the stock car, then you have a fair point. I come from the perspective that the cars are an expression of the the brand, and the people that brand employs. There is some distance from the manufacturer with Chevy and Ford in that they write checks to builders to develop their stuff for them. I take pride in the fact that Toyota doesn't outsource its work. It keeps its stuff in house via TRD. Yeah, I know, this is stretching it a bit, but the point is that Toyota is more hands through TRD than the other manufacturers IMO. Maybe that is why I am manufacturer loyal to a greater extent than some on this board. 1,2,3.....flame away!

HereI can relate to it. Im a Niner fan. I watched Jerry Rice leave the Niners and go to the Raiders. I watched him go to another Super Bowl....as a Raider. I had no ill will towrads the man. He was a legend and I root for a team, not the guy. In Nascar if you were to not root for Carl because he went to Gibbs and you had something against Gibbs I could somewhat understand. It's just a manufacturer. It would be like not rooting for Harvick because he is sponsored by Budweiser and you like Coors. Its so trivial.

I respect where you are coming from obviously, and I love to see it. I am probably the flip side of your position. I have always like Carl, but there's no way I would pull for him unless he was in a Toyota. Now he is, and so I will. You are the example of what I was looking for when I came to the series with Toyota (have always been a NASCAR fan, but eat, sleep, and breathe it since Toyota came in). I have a ton of Kyle stuff. If he was to leave Toyota, I would feel the same way. On one hand, sorry you are losing your driver. On the other hand, I'm glad he's coming to the Darkside.

I respect that. I have never purchased anything other than a Toyota, and I will die never having purchased anything but a Toyota. I understand the fans who hate Toyota in NASCAR. I was skeptical when they decided to come. However, what is undeniable is the way they have come into the sport. They came in with a respect for the series, and the existing rivalries that were here before them. Don't mind fans who hate Toyota, but have an issue with those that have held onto Roush's (I like Jack BTW) paranoia about Toyota overspending and domination. They haven't won the damn thing and they have been here 7 years. They are still racing their original engine submitted to NASCAR when they came.

It's not like I can walk into the dealership this afternoon and buy the Ford Fusion that Carl Edwards drove to victory last Sunday.

I wouldn't buy any product because their Pitchman said how great it is...he's being PAID to say those things.

Race cars of today are purpose built machines. There's not one aspect of any of the cars whether its Ford, Chevrolet, or Toyota, that you could walk into the dealership and buy. And I would bet just about any driver out there could care less about what they're driving, long as they can be competitive.

How are you so against Toyota (and Im assuming other foreign makes) and an alleged Ford diehard, as a Mercedes-Benz technician (as your username states)?

I'm a Ford guy, I work for Mercedes-Benz, and I dislike Toyota. Im not sure what youre not getting.

Some people just don't get it Ben or their pullin your chain. I'm a Chevy guy at the races but these are my 2 trucks.

My Ram everyday driver and my 2000 Dodge Dakota hunting and fishing truck with a magnum V6, 4x4, towing package etc, 166,000 miles and in perfect condition. You like what you like, do what you do and to hell with'em.

My issue is, why do you watch racing? Like if a manufactuer left the sport, would you stop watching? If the answer is yes, then I just can't wrap my head around that. I'm not really a car guy, so in that sense I probably don't get it but if I was fan of Chevy or ford, and Toyota car won the race but it was a great race then I would love that race. Same goes for if my driver doesn't win. Ultimately, I care about the racing which is why I'm not loving as many races as I used to.

^^^Theres your problem^^^ :)

I watch every lap of every race, and love every minute of it. I enjoy every finish, as long as its a good, close, clean race. However, the driver I root for, and the one that gets my hard earned money for merchandise, will be in a Ford.
 
If Mercedes-Benz ever joined NASCAR, would I root for them? Hmm. Maybe. But thats about as likely as Dale Jr. in a Toyota.

Never say never. I didn't think I'd ever see my childhood favorite Mark Martin driving anything but Jack Roush's #6 Ford.

I enjoy watching a Chevy engine detonate as much as the next guy but don't really care what my driver is in...I just want him to win a ****** race or 2.
 
Yeah I see where's he coming from guys. I'm a diehard fan of wooden bats in baseball. My favorite player David Ortiz uses a wooden bat. If he ever went to the dark side and the Red Sox started using aluminum bats I would pick a new team. :dunce:
