The Following

I figured that there would be a thread on this show. It's really good. I only watched the first episode so far, but I dvr'd the second one and haven't watched it yet. I have it set to record the series.

My wife is excited that she is actually watching a show that all the girls in her office are watching. They watch a lot of "reality tv" like real housewives and other stuff we have no interest in at all.

Watched the second one and continue to be hooked. Anyone have any thoughts on what characters on this show are some of the unrevealed followers? You know it has to turn out that one or more of the trusting individuals on the show are going to be revealed to be a follower. Don't you think?

I watched the first two episodes. They really did a good job at making the main villain sedistic, most programs they have to limit the violence because of the network but I think they did right this time. Maggie Grace (the actress from Lost and Taken) getting killed in the first episode was unexpected. But I think it also adds to the suspense, most shows have to use famous actors or actresses names to keep people watching but this show is good enough it doesn't need that.

The new agent. They know this guy has followers everywhere and no one even thinks to suspect the new agent? I'm loving the show so far and the ratings actually went up in week two so it's looking good so far.

My guess, FBI agent Debra Parker is a follower.
I've been thinking the same thing. I was also surprised by Maggie Grace being killed off in the first episode. A little disappointed too, she is really nice to look at.

That second episode was really good too. I've always liked the psychological type shows where they try to get into the mind of the bad guy. Criminal Minds is the best at that of all the shows I've ever watched, and remains my favorite show on TV, mostly for that reason.

This weeks episode was pretty good, but not great. If they hadn't shown the two guys making out it might have warranted a "great" rating. There are just some things you can't unsee. I called the wife being part of it pretty much right off the bat, so some of the surprise was missing for me. But, it was still pretty good.

Nice call on the wife. I didn't catch that until she asked that officer about whether or not he was married and had a family. Then I started to wonder but didn't have to wait too long to have that confirmed by the knife to the throat move. Yeah, gay guy kiss scene..... Not needed to convey that storyline. I think we all had that figured out beforehand. The dude eating/choking on his own bandages..... whew, I didn't see that one coming. The email with the attached video of the kid being taught to kill..... seriously? Man there are some sick bastards thinking and writing this stuff up which are giving the show a movie like feel to the show. Like I said before, I'm hooked.

I'm hooked too, but I wonder about how long it can go on with this kind of intensity and shock value stuff before you just get kind of numb to it. Criminal Minds has the writing to overcome that effect for the most part. I just hope that The Following has the same thing.

I think the crazy short hair girl will kill off that one guy pretty soon. So I doubt you will have to see many more scenes of those two making out lol

That also makes me wonder how this show can go on for more than a season, at least with this single storyline.

I really liked last weeks episode. I am actually more interestead in seeing if the three kidnappers can escape from the law since they built an entire story line for them. Mondays episode looks like it will be a very good one.

That's a good point. It seems like they have an awful lot of time in developing those characters to just effectively end them by sending them to prison or having them killed in a standoff.

In addition, I find it a little disconcerting that I find the short haired girl to be a little hotter every week. She certainly isn't your conventional hot chick, but she's pretty sexy for a sociopath. Anybody else think she's kinda sneaky hot?

This is a really good show that I'm glad we decided to watch this year. A lot of twists and turns. It's getting better each week but I still can't help but feel that it can't have more than a one season run.

Not me. I just want someone to stab her in the face every time I see her. Which means the actress is doing a great job because we are suppose to hate her. I thought last Monday's episode was the best of the season so far.

Oh, I certainly want someone to kill her. I don't like anything about her, but she is still hot.

This week's episode was pretty good, if a little unbelievable. I hate that it seems pretty certain that Carroll will escape on next week's episode. If not, why would they make such a big deal about him being transferred on the preview for next week. Of course, that will give the series a lot more directions at can take.

I also called the blond local cop chick being a follower too. My family thought I was wrong, but, of course I wasn't. I kinda wish I didn't find stuff like that predictable on this show. It kind of ruins some of the surprises.

Of course, I thought Debra Parker was a follower too and so far, I've been wrong about that. That was kind of an interesting and unforseen twist on her back story regarding her parents and that cult. It explains why she became and experts on cults. I didn't like her at first, but she is growing on me.

The show has been renewed for a second season. I wonder if they will have a different villain every season?

That is good news but yes, they got to come up with something different. Then again, '24' basically did the same thing year after year and we enjoyed that show too.

Well now that he escaped and he has some sort of civalization full of followers I think that opens up more possibilitys than having him stay in prison. Speaking of which appearantly he has a 2nd in command who hasn't been shown yet.

I haven't gotten around to watching the last episode yet. I was gonna watch it online but Fox won't unlock the last episode till like a week after.
Well, I sure won't spoil anything for you but I thought it was an excellent episode.

I find myself watching this show trying to guess the unpredictable because you know that is the direction that this show is going to go. I'm not sure if that actually makes sense but basically I tend to expect the unexpected while watching.

Yeah. I don't know what direction the show will take next year. This one seems like it will be tired and played out in a season, but then again you never know.

Next season I'm thinking it takes a Criminal Minds approach. A different case every week.

That might be cool. Criminal Minds is a great show, no doubt. I'm not sure a similar show with different characters would work very well, but this is a pretty good cast to try it with.

Yeah but they can't chase the same guy and his followers forever.
I got that. That's why I said back on post #18 that I didn't see how this show could last. If it takes on a theme similar to 24 where the whole season each year is a storyline in itself we'll continue to watch but if it changes to simply a new story line each week we'll probably be done watching. I'm not interested in any of the other shows that take that approach.

I'm not as crazy about this show as some people. I like most of the actors and I love Edgar Allen Poe. I mean, I like the show better than most other shows on tv right now, but I can't escape the feeling that it could just be better than it is. You know what I mean?
