The latest to be bit by the new lug nut rule

BKR's 29 truck team had the identical infraction, which occurred the same way. Drop the jack, driver drops the clutch.

Maybe, but under other circumstances would it still be draconian?

Nascar has once again boxed themselves in with an ill thought out rule so by the letter of the law they will hand out draconian punishment, IMO.

NASCAR Reviewing Loose Wheels

By the NASCAR rule book, both instances would warrant a penalty that includes a four race crew chief suspension as well as similar punishment for the tire carrier and tire changer due to improper installation.

However the sanctioning body has indicated additional investigation is ongoing to judge intent as it applies to the spirit of the rule.

“It’s possible that we will,” said Scott Miller, NASCAR vice president of competition Monday on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio's “The Morning Drive” when asked about considering intent. “We really haven’t started those discussions yet. Certainly we will review everything that we have. From what we’ve seen so far, it wasn’t trying to go back on the race track with two lug nuts, it was obviously human error in both cases. There’s a lot of discussions internally that have to happen on how we’re going to rule on that. That process will start later this afternoon.”

NASCAR has penalized teams for not having five lug nuts securely fastened in the past and has until now not considered any deviation from the rule being black or white.

But that could change in the case of the two Dover scenarios.

“It’s fairly obvious when things keep occurring that are either competition or safety related, and you feel you need to ramp up consequences of doing said things,” Miller said. “With wheels and hitting two to three lug nuts on the last pit stop, that’s where rules came from.”

Good deal, that was in place to keep teams from taking chances with the lugs and having a tire jump the fence at 200 MPH and kill somebody, not falling off on pit row.

It would be un-draconian and quite normal for Nascar to reverse course on what its rule book says as most of them are not very well thought out. I support the 18 team not getting penalized in any way at all.

They had a truck team Friday before the cup race one of Kez's teams have the same problem..and one of the talking heads trotted out the rulebook. I think it was Justin Long. Seemed really stupid and excessive at that level.

The gift that keeps on giving. Thanks again Tony for calling out NASCAR on not policing lug nuts. It's been a great source of steady income for NASCAR since they were backed into a corner on this issue. BF is probably using the $'s collected as his personal WAM(Walking Around Money).

Again, be careful what you ask for..... You may just get it.

This boy's going to run out of crew chiefs soon. Thanks again Tony.

Kyle Busch’s No. 18 found with one unsecured lug nut at Kentucky

NASCAR officials announced Saturday night that the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Toyota for driver Kyle Busch was found with one unsecured lug nut in a post-race check at Kentucky Speedway.

Busch, the Coors Light Pole winner, led 112 laps and finished fifth behind Quaker State 400 winner Martin Truex Jr.

Saturday’s event was the first race back atop the pit box for No. 18 crew chief Adam Stevens, who joined two crew members in serving a four-race suspension for a tire coming off Busch’s car last month at Dover International Speedway.

Under the guidelines in the 2017 NASCAR Rule Book, a $10,000 fine would be the suggested penalty for Saturday’s single lug-nut infraction.

I'm thinking they are leaving one off to get out of the job working with Mr. Sparkle. Stevens looked happy when they told him the news
Stevens told us during the pit stop that Kyle had a missing lug nut. Paying $10,000 must be cheaper than coming in and going a lap down.

I wonder how many teams would do this if the penalty is stay home next week?
Fail inspection, come back next week and try again. That would fix those problems.

One Cup crew chief, two others in Trucks, fined for Bristol penalties

NASCAR on Wednesday issued three penalties from the past weekend of racing at Bristol Motor Speedway.

In the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota was found to be in violation of Sections 10.9 and 10.4 of the NASCAR Rule Book: Tires and wheels (lug nuts not properly installed).

As a result, crew chief Scott Graves has been fined $10,000.

In the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the No. 51 and No. 83 Trucks were also found to be in violation of Sections 10.9 and 10.4 (lug nuts not properly installed).

As a result, Kevin Manion, crew chief of the No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota, and Richard Mason, crew chief of the No. 83 DJ Copp Motorsports Chevrolet, were each fined $2,500.

All penalties were issued for safety level violations.

If Kyle is so great, why does his crew feel they can't take an extra second and get all the lug nuts on right?
If at inspection your car doesn't pass, go home, do not pass go and no pay. Want to bet with that rule in place every nut will be in place proper?????

I dunno but it appears that all of Kyle were tight ........... unless I misread the article above. Kyle won in the 46 truck at Bristol .... not the 51

Because they knew Harrison Burton, the 18th place finisher, was wearing a Kyle Busch disguise.
