The Southern 500 at Darlington

He has gotta go, his learning curve has drifted way off course. Allgier needs that ride.

Bobby Labonte this is an intervention you've brought out 3 cautions tonight it is time to retire

Jeez, got hom at 3:00 in the morning from some dirt track racing, read through the whole race thread, still don't know who won.

But I do know one thing...it sounds like my 3 hour drive home was more excting than that race. :D

I thought it was a pretty good race myself. I could have stood a few less cautions, but they definitely keep it interesting. Jeff Gordon looked great again and that always adds to my enjoyment of the race. That's the most compelling race I've seen in a long time, I watched almost all of it. Very enjoyable.

I enjoyed most of it --- toward the end DW's babbling set my teeth on edge.

It really irritated me when Larry and DW were both yelling about the beating and banging going on in the last few laps and all we saw were the leaders.

What I want to know is was DW having a contest with him self to see how many different ways he could use the word "scosh" or what?!? I mean he must have said that 30 times.

I could do without so many commercial breaks. They go to comm then come back and if under caution when they come back. They show pit stops then go to commercials again and if it stays green we lucky to see 10 laps before they go to commercials again.

So was it me, or did the race end at midnight local time? Isn't that like a new record since the 2am Pepsi 400 win by Stewart?

Yeah it was a long one.Especially since FOX only wanted to show single cars and commercials all night.

Imagine the fans in the stands, having to stay awake until 11:30, then having to drive home or to their hotel. Account for traffic, too. I bet alot of people didn't get home until 12:30 or 1.

I was there, it was way too late. It should have been 400 miles, or it should have at least started an hour and hour and a half earlier. 7:30 isn't a good start time for a 500 mile event.

hey just remember last year that race probably didn't start until 8:30 or so. Of course I'm a 19 year old college student I have the ability to be awake that late

I think anyone who is going to a night race should expect to get home or to their hotel pretty late.

A couple of years ago I went to the Bristol night race. I live in Southern WV, so Bristol Tenn is only about 1 hour and 45 minutes from my house. Pretty easy drive. The race ended right aroun 11pm local time and I didn't arrive home until around 3:30am. When you account for traffic after a race it is gonna be a long night no matter what.

I went to sleep with 100 to go, enough was enough. I had to work 16 hours straight today.

From what I saw, the race was a 6. Would've been higher if it was shorter, 500 miles is just entirely too long for a night race.

I'm tired..... It's too long..... blah, blah, blah.....

Typical 500 mile race @ Darlington. Did anyone here seriously think that the race would be that any shorter than just under the four hour mark? I wonder if when they opened this track if the fans were complaining about sitting through their typical 6+ hour races at Darlington. ;)

I agree. There are long races, short races, short tracks, mile and halfs, super speedways, road courses, and much more. It's the differences that are great. We don't want them to be all the same(cookie cutters). So why complain when they are different?

Because they want it their way.

Some people would gripe if they were hung with a brand new rope. :p

I like to complain about plate "racing", but I really don't mind it too much. It's only 4 "races" a year. I'm sure NASCAR would much rather people be angry than apathetic.

it was rough but even at my advanced age i somehow managed to stay awake that late also. <g> i do believe the race should have started an hour earlier.
