The story about Stewart the media wont run

Which media are we talking about here? National or just media in general? This story has been all over the net the past couple days in several locations.

These kinds of stories just don't get out to the main stream media for any drivers but if any of the eff's up or is involved in something controversial it does. That's pretty much the same for any sport. You don't see a lot of good that NFL, MLB or NHL players do either. Just the way it is.

Its been all over racing media the past couple of days. Anything NASCAR is amiss in the mainstream media except for an blip from ESPN every 12 hours and completely absent from local media. I'm talking about this story reaching the same hype as the Ward incident.

If you watch any college gameday broadcast or every other NFL game, there is always an inspirational story about some kid growing up in the projects with nothing to eat but his left arm and then making it to the big time and giving back to the community.

Won't play the media treats my guy unfairly game. I'm a Kyle Busch fan. You get used to it. Believe in your guy, and quit looking to the media for reasons why you do.

I look to his/her style of racing and what he/she has to say after the race to believe in my favorite driver. Period.

I agree. I also include personal time with my driver and how he treated my family.

To defend the mainstream media (never thought I'd say that), they'd need a lot more information than what is in this story to pick it up. What was Stewart's contribution? Where in Northern Indiana did Eric Saunders win his sprint car race? Has Stewart been helping over the past two years as well? Hell, even a quote from Saunders would help tell his story. Give me anything.

A basic Google search tells me this: Saunders was riding for Tony Stewart during his motocross days. According to his Twitter bio and LinkedIn page, Saunders is still a part of Tony Stewart Racing. In other words, Stewart gave this kid a shot in something other than four-wheeled racing and stuck with him when tragedy struck, giving him another chance to fulfill his racing dream. To me, that makes the story better, but the reporter couldn't be bothered to learn and share that?

It's a good story, but it could be an incredible story. There's more to be told, if someone is willing to do the legwork. This guy apparently wasn't, and I guarantee you the national media won't.

If the media "won't run" it, why have I read several variations of this story on several different media outlets?

Dude its not on the media o_O Holy **** Revman, get with it

Here's the deal: the news media - especially TV media - prioritizes attracting viewers over hard news reporting. Generally bad news sells better. Plus race fans are a smaller niche than viewers in general, meaning that TV can interest more viewers with bad news about celebrities than good news that may appeal to a lessor audience.

If you want broader coverage of stories like this example you'll have to shake TV media awake. Write and call in about it, and get all of your friends to do it too. Same with wanting more details beyond the fluff. Otherwise TV media will continue with their current comfortable formula.

Go watch your local news & see if this pops up. You know the post relates to mainstream media, go home troll.

I don't watch the local news - unless Kristina Montouri  is doing the weather forecast. When the accident occurred, I heard commentators on both Al Jazeera America and MSNBC praise Tony Stewart for his involvement in racing and helping others many times.

While you're mostly right, I'll just say in Chex's defense, NBC Nightly News has run numerous stories about the good things celebrities and athletes do. I think they call it "Making A Difference" and they've had stories about NASCAR drivers and short track racers quite a bit. I also know they did a story on Karsyn Elledge (Kelley's daughter) last year. So, it's not outside of what they're about.

Of course, Brian Williams is also a die-hard NASCAR fan. :idunno:

I'd bet Smoke would have rather it not been reported as it comes of kind of cheap in terms of, "Well you see, Tony Stewart really is a nice guy" kind of way. It's a nice story and only one of many for not only Smoke but for many of these people in NASCAR.

Well to be fair, why would the national media cover that?
