JR needs to drive this.

Richard Childress will once again climb behind the wheel of a race car – but it won’t be just any race car and it won’t be at just any race track.

Childress announced Wednesday that he will pace the field prior to the start of the Oct. 13 Cup playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, driving one of the most renowned cars in the sport: the same No. 3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo that the late Dale Earnhardt drove to the 76th and final win of his Cup career nearly 19 years earlier in the Winston 500 at Talladega on Oct. 15, 2000.

With next year being the 20 year anniversary of that race, I would have thought they would have waited one more year to do this.

Let's see, where's my asbestos underwear? Ah, right here under my Kevlar helmet. Now, if I can just find my HazMat suit; good to go.

I'm sorry but this strikes me as a track desperately clinging to the past, leveraging the Earnhardt legend to try attracting his aging fans one more time.

Next year they'll get Kenny's car too.

I'll be over here in my bunker.

I think it's cool when they do this stuff. Even better because we got tickets to see it in person :D A couple of years ago we saw Richard Petty wheeling one of his old race cars around Darlington before the drop of the green flag. He was having such a good time he didn't want to come back in and they black flagged him.

I never liked Earnhardt Sr. Hated him actually. But I recognize his greatness. It's the same with Gordon when he switched to Chevy he was nothing. Kyle Busch is good but if he only wins 1 championship he's nothing.. I never cared for Jimmie Johnson hogging all the wins and championships but he's a good sport and never won anything dirty that I saw so it's difficult to hate on him, just a strong dislike I guess.

Finally, a half way decent #3 paint scheme since the return.

Jack Scheme is my favorite scheme of the year and best one on the 3 since it’s return. Sharp looking car.

Man , what I've give to see the 3 and 9 beating and bangging for a photo finish at Dega.

The entertainment business.

They're planning a remake of The Princess Bride.

One of favorites is a cult classic, Escape From New York. I hear they wanna do that too.

Because NYC and the country at large is so much more violent than it was in the early 80s

Yeah that's what I said. Oh and BTW I don't see any black in the Dow logo, guess we need to milk the Earnhardt legacy some more with AD.
Well to be fair....would it be wrong for me to say that as much as the number, paint scheme and all that comes with it is Dale’s legacy wouldn’t you say it’s just as much as RC’s? I don’t think your wrong at all, however the number was Richard’s before and it was made popular with Earnhardt driving for him which we all know. I guess I’m saying that I don’t have a problem with RC driving at Dega or the latest 3 paint scheme which I’m sure will evoke memories because Richard was just as much a part of those as Dale was.

3 has been an RCR cup car number for a long, long time.

I'll enjoy seeing it roll around Talladeger for a few laps. In the absence of its best driver, I don't care who's behind the wheel when it does that.

Amen. Well said.

Unless something has changed, Teresa Earnhardt has the copyright on the graphic design of the RCR 3.

Yep, it's the Cult Of Earnhardt. Maybe Nascar should come up with an Alabama redneck version of the Flying Elvi... which is an actual thing in Las Vegas.

I'm making the point that the Dow Chemical schemes look pretty forced with the black when the Dow logo has no black in it. The Dow patriotic & Dow gray schemes actually look really good. The Jack Daniels scheme is a great fit because of their brand.

Dow’s colors are red&white? I throughly enjoyed some of the Dow schemes, they had some good ones along with the ones you mentioned. I don’t think we will be seeing them on the 3 though looks like they left their sponsorship agreement with RCR

It was always my understanding that Childress owned the copyright to his #3 and Earnhardt owned the copyright to his signature.

Yeah, this is what I always assumed, since after he died there was a ton of DEI merch with the "E" instead of the "3"

Also, Jr drove that 3 a couple times in Xfinity races with his own team, remember the Wrangler car back in 2011ish.

I'm pretty sure Teresa owns the graphic design of the DEI 8, though

You guys have it right.

I relied on my memory. I’ll reboot.

I don't see any black in their logos, no.
