So I'm attending a local community college for a degree in Automotive Service and Motorsports. I find out today that my instructor for my chassis class is an old crew member for drivers like David Pearson, Harry Gant and Tim Richmond. He also was a crew chief for an underfunded team in the truck series with driver Caleb Holman. He mostly works with local race teams now at Kingsport Speedway.

Here is an link to an old story about him in 2012. I'm super excited to get into this class and learn from this guy. I bet he has some interesting stories too.

Probably the best stories can't be told in a classroom. :)

Yes I'm probably going to drive him nuts. I just found out all of this after I got home today. He told us he worked on several racing teams but nothing of David Pearson or even the truck series. I'm even more excited to get back into class now.

and @KahneFan, the plan as of now is to work in a dealership for awhile, maybe try to volunteer on a local racing team or somehow get involved in racing. Ultimate goal is to work in NASCAR or Indycar. I'm still considering more training after I graduate. I still have 1 year left here.

I may ask him if he cares if I come over to the track he works at and creep around the place.

To make my day even better, we get to use this bad ass simulator to "tryout" our set ups. That is one of my instructors driving an Williams F1 car at the Daytona road course. We all got to take a test drive. I drove a Gen 6 at Bristol and a Corvette C6-R at VIR and it's very challenging. Didn't make it very far without finding a wall.
