This is the greatest thing I've seen NASCAR do in years

I like everything about the so called Pocono weekend. I'm considering going, but honestly, is there any seats there that you can see the whole track with binoculars?

Also the ARCA stuff could be fit into Friday's schedule but either way I wouldn't mind seeing an ARCA race for once.

The top few rows in turn 3 give you a 95% view or so. That's where I normally sit.

$175 for today's race in that section (300 Level - Section 337-352) you are talking about... a little more expensive than NHMS, Sonoma & LVMS (off StubHub)... I'm interested to see the ticket prices for next June.

I'm sure the place doesn't fill like most races on the schedule these days, but Pocono seems to be a decent draw I notice so I'd still probably need to lock that in.

I should clarify I mean top few rows of the 200 level. I think those are $80-$90. 300 level is club seating which is under cover and you get your own restrooms.

I don't care about shading that much. It's the Poconos, I doubt it gets that hot & even then I was out in the heat last Sunday at NHMS and it wasn't that bad with a cold rag on my neck & some water. If the view is about the same then I'd take the cheaper option.

IndyCar did a draw for their doubleheaders at one point, dirt tracks do this type of thing a lot. I don't see how it's that big of a gimmick especially with the fact that you still need to be on the lead lap to have a half decent starting spot.

In a time when track position means more than speed at the track that track position means the most, an inversion after 350 miles is quite the gimmick.

Leave this kind of stuff for non points paying events.
This.....It’s a points paying race that determines...oh NVM. The Championship is decided by the biggest gimmick of all in the Ford Homestead-Miami Bowl. So what’s another gimmick right? I don’t like it, I’m tired of the gimmicks but if it works I hope that it becomes a staple of Pocono and allows for it to remain on future schedules. I like the track, really unique place so if this gimmick saves it so be it.

So is Saturday's last place finisher the "pole winner" for Sunday or is the only pole winner for Saturday's race? I thought they hinted that the shootout in Daytona has run its course, so this might mean its ultimate demise.

As far as the field inversion, it should be quite interesting to see how the teams that normally run several seconds slower get out of the way. Maybe a couple drivers who already have a win prior to Pocono or those who badly need a win, will develop a bad vibration at the start of Saturday's race...hmmm

No. The last person on the lead lap is the pole winner.

I don't like anything in the announcement, but there's nothing I can do about it and I'll watch the racing anyway.

I just don't expect local track procedures at the top level in the sport. Field inversion is a gimmick to generate interest when there are only a few competitive cars in a large field.

Got an uncompetitive car late in the first race? Back it into the wall and bring out the other car at the front of the field on day 2.

The only good thing I see is that it keeps a date at an interesting track.

You guys didn't read the part where the invert is for lead lap cars... I know Pocono is a big track but that's 25 cars max. They can't just sandbag unless they think it's some bright idea to lose points.

God this sport has the worst fans

If this is the greatest thing, that is a low bar. I could list 100 greater actions NASCAR has taken in recent years, a few undone since.

It's fine. Puttin' on a sHoW. I doubt there will be much if any sandbagging at the back of the lead lap on the first day. Starting position means something, but not enough to incentivize sacrificing finishing points.

“What can we do to distract everyone that we scheduled two races back to back at one of tracks fans voted their least favorite?!”

Track is pretty good with actual horsepower, JMO. I get the hatred for it here with the crappy aero low horsepower show this year.

I'd rather see them run Poconos road course for the second race. Inverting the field will just result in wrecks as those cars are not used to being upfront and the ones that are will be coming quickly. Going to be a disaster I think.

The greatest things I have seen Nascar do in years are continuing to undo what Brian France has screwed up. As far as the Pocono weekend, I am looking forward to seeing something new and different and I hope all of it gets televised.

Racing itself is all gimmicks. When they made a track, it was a gimmick. When they built walls and guardrails to bounce the competitor into oncoming cars, it was a gimmick. When they made rules to make it “fair”, it was a gimmick. When the cars were built in shops as opposed to factory, it was a gimmick. The fact you sit in a seat and watch a closed course is an entire gimmick. Jesus people gotta bitch about everything.

It's the deathbedder way of thinking. Instead of thinking they are doing something to try to improve the racing, with deathbedders it is always thought of as a negative. They work hard at it I'll give em that.

I certainly wouldn't call this the greatest thing ever. For many of us who attend Pocono we're losing a race weekend. Not only that the Cup races will be shorter. I knew they would be for months having talked to some people who are associated with the track via local sponsorships. If you're more interested in the party/camping aspect (think music festival) then this setup likely for you. However, I'm not one of those people. I just got for the Cup races.

I'll definitely try to get to one of the days just to support the track. However, the odds of making it to both are pretty slim.

A smoking hawt trophy queen is the greatest thing ever. Fast cars and hawt wimmins is such a natural pairing. The nutured culture crusade to eliminate the best things in life should be a criminal act.

Big fish eat little fish. Pretty sure the powers that be are trying to make Pocono a "happening" like Watkins Glenn. They obviously think the event will draw more attention doing it this way.

Years ago Nascar had a race where wimmen got in free if they wore a bikini. :idunno:

I'm not opposed to the idea of a double header, but I'm not sure I would have picked Pocono as the place to do it. There IS a precedent for this though. In 2003, the spring Pocono ARCA race was rained out, so we ran a Friday-Saturday double header on the summer race weekend. It was kind of fun, but over four days, I think I got about twelve hours of sleep. My idea for NASCAR was a Friday night-Sunday afternoon Bristol-Martinsville double. I think THAT would have been a lot cooler than two at Pocono.

They also ran a Cup/ARCA doubleheader at Pocono about 5-10 years ago. I still remember an ARCA car getting stuck down by turn 1 and they literally left the car in the mud all day.

Where in the hell do you find this stuff!!! LOL :D

Agreed.

I mean, it's only the lead lap cars, they could be a few people on the lead lap who are near the back....so. :idunno::idunno:

Would it be that much trouble to run Q again the morning of the second race? It may not fit the TV schedule but not everything had to be on the tube.

I hear ya. But apparently there are relatively few who see this deal as losing a race weekend, although certainly there are some such as yourself. Jordan Bianchi in The Athletic quoted track president Ben May... "I mean the beauty of this thing is, historically we only have about 25 percent carryover from race to race. So in essence we have two different crowds. It’s not like 90 percent of our crowd comes to both races and there’s a risk involved, because there’s not.” If that 25% number is accurate, it's definitely a good sign.

Also, Bianchi says Pocono gets a very heavy percentage of customers who camp at the track for the weekend, although no numbers are quoted.

I've raced at Pocono, attended as a spectator, and seen it on TV... I love Pocono. My preference would be one weekend on the tri-oval and one on a "roval," which would work great at that track. But I believe Pocono did not have that option on the table in their discussions with Nascar. I believe their only other option was to drop down to a single race starting in 2021. The doubleheader concept might work, might not work, but it's worth a try IMO.
