Holy crap.

According to numbers posted on the website Cawsnjaws.com – which keeps track of commercials during NASCAR races – TNT's broadcast of the Kentucky race contained the highest percentage of ads so far this season.
A total of 31.7 percent of TNT's race broadcast was devoted to commercials – none of which aired in a side-by-side format and plenty of which occurred during the green flag.

Jeff Gluck inserted a bunch of KFC commercials for effect.

I think this is what happens when a TV station is stuck with an under performing show. Charge less for air time and make your money with quantity. I wonder if NASCAR will get TNT to sign another deal. I really wish NASCAR would do something for the sport and only accept offers for the whole season rather than breaking it up.

I wish NASCAR would offer some kind of commercial free PPV alternative.

Unless they start their own channel, I wouldn't go for it. PPV takes the first $10 for themselves. I would suscribe to a nascar channel for $120 per season IF they provided a sub channel feed from in the car of your choice.

I'd buy it. I have the NFL package and love it and that's not even commercial free. It's just all of the games.

I'd like to see NASCAR start a broadcast when practice opens for the weekend and run to and through the top drivers being interviewed after the race in the media center.

I thought it was just me noticing the over abundance of commercials. Who was it that recently posted last week that all the networks air the same amount of commercials....guess they were wrong.

There was A LOT of commercials, but our power had just came back on so I was happy to even see a stinkin commercial..so I didn't notice much! lol

That's why you provide a link to backup your statement, I guess.

I said this in the rate the race thread. I dvred the race and it felt like that I had to fast forward almost 90 minutes worth of commercial. It was ridiculous.

Hell I thought it was normal, I didnt notice an increase in Andy's bitchin.

I was at my local track Saturday so I recorded the cup race and watched it early Sunday morning. I have no complaints at all.

TNT's coverage IMO opinion is just awful. I can't really complain about.the commercials cause it gives me a break from the "personalities" that call the race. Fire Michael Waltrip from Fox and let them cover the season. As bad as TNT is ESPN is just around the corner:D

It was me. I can't find the link. It was something that I had read years ago. I can't even find the threads on the boards where I posted the link.

But something was definitely screwy with the Kentucky race as far as commercials. It was like they tried to squeeze in commercials for a 4 hour race into a 2:46 race. Was it a compromise for being commercial free at Daytona on Saturday? And those KFC commercials became a running joke in the NASCAR bubble. I can't imagine NASCAR is happy about this level of backlash.

Happiness comes from DirecTV

If you have no complaints now, get ready for AWESOME once you get DTV

Im a race fan anyway I can get it, but DTV makes me feel like IM at the track. I can change my point of view and that rules.

The race by TNT had 129 commercials, and with DTV, I never left the track. Not for one minute. When I had to goto the JOHN, I turned up my LG sound bar with sub woofer and felt like I was still there. All I need is some guy who I bribe with beer to come over and yell at about how good the 48 really is. I spout off some great stats, swig my beer and Vhiskey, and glance at the hotpass that is showing a great shot of the 48 mowing down the leader.

Good times...... :)

I had read something similar a couple years back when TNT covered Daytona for the first time with limited commercials. It said something to the effect it would have less commercials except for the mandatory time they had to give to the provider. So there's mandatory commercials from station and provider. Something like that anyway and it was the reason why they all had the same amount of commercials just at different times.

We had this argument last year and I provided links to validate my statement that ESPN had fewer commercials than TNT did for a race the same length earlier in the season. On top of fewer total commercials, half of ESPN's commercials were "Side-by-Side".

TNT had more commercials than a 500 mile race on FOX which ran approximately an hour longer than the Kentucky race.

TNT was not the first network to run a race with limited commercials. NBC used the very same wide open format at the 1999 and 2000 Homestead races. And ABC ran the Inaugural Brickyard 400 with the race picture in the corner of the screen.

It's NASCAR that put up the brakes to side-by-side coverage back in 2006, with their excuse being that IndyCar pays ESPN to televise the races (which, of course, was not true and NASCAR knew it was not true).

Honestly, as much as FOX sucks, I'd rather bitch about Jaws, Mikey and halftime shows than bitch about 129 commercials.

TNT is to make some sort of announcement today. Most likely in response to the disgruntled fans. Not sure when or what time today.

They'll probably announce that they're going to air The Great Escape during the race.

Snark aside, hopefully they do something.

Could the outages have caused an issue with an uplink facility which led to the oddly repetitive occurrence of that KFC ad?
