TNT was not the first network to run a race with limited commercials. NBC used the very same wide open format at the 1999 and 2000 Homestead races. And ABC ran the Inaugural Brickyard 400 with the race picture in the corner of the screen.
It's NASCAR that put up the brakes to side-by-side coverage back in 2006, with their excuse being that IndyCar pays ESPN to televise the races (which, of course, was not true and NASCAR knew it was not true).
Whoever wins at Daytona should be prepared for TNT to take a commercial break in the middle of the victory lane interview.
Adam Alexander: While we were away we had a 19 car crash, A fist fight broke out between Kurt Busch and Marty Smith in the garage area and Elvis came down from the sky riding on a pink unicorn. Stay with us for Nascar on TNT.....*ACDC TNT song*...... Falling skies, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy....falling skies.

Holy crap.
According to numbers posted on the website Cawsnjaws.com – which keeps track of commercials during NASCAR races – TNT's broadcast of the Kentucky race contained the highest percentage of ads so far this season.
A total of 31.7 percent of TNT's race broadcast was devoted to commercials – none of which aired in a side-by-side format and plenty of which occurred during the green flag.
Jeff Gluck inserted a bunch of KFC commercials for effect.
Considering the attention KFC has received on this board alone over the last 5 days doesn't leave any question in my mind that commercials work. Wouldn't surprise me if the Colonel himself drives the pace car, gives the command and waves the checkers this weekend.
