Announcement coming later today. Could be this or something completely different. I think it's about the All-Star Race

Looks like it's some kind of fill in the shadow announcement. Probably a bust. An announcement of a country entertainer or something like that.

edit

(Have to push PLAY)

From the Austin Dillon Signature Collection, available at Nordstrom's, Belk's, and other retailers who suddenly have to fill some open, until-recently-celebrity-endorsed floor space? :D

Yeah, that doesn't look like anything racing-related.

I like Justin Moore but I had hopes for a road course announcement. Saw Carrie Underwood there a while back before the 600. Personally I think it's pretty cool that they provide those concerts leading up to a race. To each his own though.

If a person liked the genre of music being played or a particular artist I could see where it would be something to look forward to.

I always wonder how much of the price of my race ticket is tied up in something completely unrelated to the racing that attracted me in the first place.

I have never heard of a pre-race concert that featured anyone I normally listen to. It's usually either country acts or southern rock. I realize those appeal to some segment of the race audience, but I've never had a radio button set to either genre. That's probably the only acts they can afford. Put Billy Joel or Meat Loaf on before the race and I'll stand in line.

Put on a no name jazz quartet or something like the Brian Setzer Orchestra and I would really enjoy it. I like a lot of different music genres although I can't just listen to opera and whatever it is that country music stations play I can't listen to at all.

So if people show up for the concert do they stay for the race?

I could definitely see myself doing something like that if it was a musical performer/group I would like to see. I may go in and check out the first stage of the race and maybe more but I would definitely bail before the end to beat the crowd.

Haha, that says it all. Whatever it is they play, with rare exception it sure ain't country music.
Cultural fads and boom/bust cycles should be a topic of interest to Nascar fans...

(Disclosure: I lived in Houston in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and I frequented Gilley's from time to time before it became famous, although I preferred the Winchester Club as it was closer to home. )
