Stewart has to finish an average three positions ahead of Carl or win the next three races to win the championship. I don't think Carl's gonna lose this one.

Leading laps and most laps could decide this, and I don't see Tony running up front all that much.

If by crazy chance..........

Tony takes two more wins and looses this to carl by less than 6 points, Im going to shoot myself in the face :dual9mm::wacko:

I hope Tony wins of course but he just hasn't been consistent enough. Either his car is way off or he has a bad pit stop....always something.

Carl doesn't have a DNF this year. Statistically speaking he is due for one. :D

And yet Edwards could hit the wall or blow an engine and finish 34 or worse and these numbers change. Lets see it all play out first.

Carl seems as nervous as hell. He has been laying back and waiting for the championship to come to him, but Tony made it clear if he sleeps too long, the 14 will beat him.

Tony has done a masterful job of getting in Carls head. Lets see if Carl once again over drives his car and starts making bad decisions.

Totally agree, Carl seems very nervous even though he tries to act cool in the interviews.

That's mathematically impossible.

Keep in the mind the big changes made to Phoenix. The banking has been changed a little and the backstretch coming off turn 2 has been pushed out a little and changed. It could be a one groove track. One driver could really hit the right setup or one could totally miss it.

LOL Andy thread fail.

I am not saying Tony is going to win or has it locked up, but the notion that Edwards did was stupid.

My monet's on Stewart. Edwards has been far too cautios and seems to be be more concerned with just finishing races than winning. I've seen the same thing happen to drivers that start a family before thier careers are through.

My money's still on Edwards. If it comes to Homestead, winner take all, Tony's in trouble. Carl owns Homestead right now. Trust me, I hope I'm wrong.

Well Carl had three wins at Texas and Tony had only one before today. They both have one win each at Phoenix, even though the track is new I would call that a draw. They both have two wins each at Homestead. Draw.

Momentum? Tony. I'm going with Tony.

Tony's two wins at Homestead was on the old flat track layout. Since the new layout at Homestead Roush has been dominate there and Edwards has won two out of the last three there. I would give the edge there to Edwards. The championship it self is going to go down to the wire between the two of them.

Yes he does. MIS. Engine trouble. I was there.

Actually you are wrong. It is possible. Tony could win another race and still loose dude. Get your head out of the clouds.

LOL, Now what was that you where saying? Tony lead How Many Laps yesterday? 170 or so?

I didn't see him leading that many laps either. Until he got shot out of the restart cannon like a.......... cannon ball.

Tony's COMBINED laps led for the last 10 races at...

Phoenix - 125 laps led.

Homestead - 175 laps led.

That's more than 7,000 laps, and Tony led 300 of them.

Over the past 10 starts, Carl has

Phoenix - 3W, 7 T5, 9 T10.

Homestead - (Only 7 starts) 2W, 4 T5, 6 T10.

I would rather see Tony win, but I think he will need some help from Carl having a mental breakdown or an engine failure.

I remember an Earnhardt story from way back. I'm not sure I have all the facts right, but it went something like this.

Ford and Yates brought a teched up engine to a test and set the fastest times. Earnhardt and company knew they were beat for the next race, so they put on 4 left side tires and blasted off 2 really fast laps, parked it and went to lunch.

Yates went and pushed the engine even further to catch up, and they blew up in the next race and Earnhardt won.

That was at Atlanta, he was getting inside mark Martins head. Not sure if that was a Yates engine, or a Roush engine.

Huh, I could have sworn they took it to the garage at least and lost a ton of laps. Maybe that "drink" my neighbors at the campground wasn't really what they said it was.

Or maybe it was the 18 passing the 48 late in the race. I can't remember now. Getting Fuzzzzzzyyyyyyyy:owquitit:

he lost 25 laps.They got 8 points

Your leaving out Lap Lead Bonus, Most Laps Lead Bonus and Winner Bonus.

It's only 3 points now so all Tony has to do is keep Edwards from wining or collecting bonuses in the next two races and finish One position ahead of him in each race and collect one bonus, while preventing Edwards from collecting any bonus's.
Should'nt be a problem :D

Oh if Tony Wins another one Edwards is done.

Since the Chase began, both Edwards and Stewart have earned 313 points each and averaged 39.125 points a race.

Unbelievable! There is no way both of them can average 39.125 points over the last two races. No way...

But the again, just a few years ago people were saying Tony would never win another race. :beerbang:

If you look there's most likely a CALCULATOR built into your PC, some of you might want to see if it you can figure it out. :p

Isn't it great that someone with only 7 top five's all season is in contention to win the championship. I still think the chase is a joke.

Then you might as well quit watching, take up golf or something.

Another way to look at it is one of the guys with the most wins is in contention for a championship.

Or....a guy with only one win is in contention for a championship.

Personally, I think having a guy with more wins than just about everyone else has a shot, but that's just me.

I'm liking this battle between wins and consistancy. I just wish there were different players. I like Tony more than Edwards (that's not saying much), so I'll root for him.

I like Tony more (I don't like Edwards at all), but I'd hate to see another situation where being great in a 10 race season beats being the best driver all year long.

Sure is, especialy when 4 of those 7 Top 5's are WINS!!! and they all came in The Chase!!!
Tony is taking a much better approach to Winning the Championship than Edwards is in my opinion!

It's not like Edwards would be leading Stewart by 90 points at this point in a Chaseless season or anything. Oh, wait a minute.....

Chase Season top 10.....

1 Carl Edwards 2316
2 Tony Stewart -3
3 Kevin Harvick -33
4 Matt Kenseth -38
5 Brad Keselowski -49
6 Jimmie Johnson -55
7 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. -79
8 Jeff Gordon -81
9 Kurt Busch -87
10 Denny Hamlin -99

Chaseless Season top 10.....

1 Carl Edwards 1191
2 Jimmie Johnson -46

4 Matt Kenseth -63
5 Tony Stewart -90
6 Jeff Gordon -93

90 points ain't that much. Not quite as close as the chase points, but that's still a fairly close field.
