Tony Stewart holds up his end.

Pack racing didn't cause the initial wreck. That was all on Tony. Pack racing a GWC made it far worse than it should have been.

Tony screwed up, but he probably had no way of knowing MWs closing speed, the crap happens fast. Sometimes you get away with one, and sometimes you don't.

So I have a question, why is Stewart and Jr. blaming the fans for Sunday's "Big One"?

What the shoe caused the wreck?

lol no. I just don't see where Tony or Jr blamed the fans for the wreck. They are crying because the fans like plate racing and they are stuck with it.

Tony said he moved down to block. That caused the wreck, and he knows it. If he was scared by being on his roof with cars coming at his door, perhaps he won't try to do that next time. Jr took a dangerous hit to his door, but Bobby Labonte made it dangerous by hitting the gas and passing on the apron rather than checking up.

Funny none of these guys blame the fans for attending the races, buying their souvenirs, the shingles on their house and for them able to strap in to a car for a living. Especially JR.

Maybe Stewart and Jr. need to realize that sometimes **** happens. It's how you deal with the **** that matters.

well was/is he wrong. are we not pack racing again because Nascar wants to see "the big one" at all plate races.

When they enlarged the plate to make speeds higher and reduced the spoiler size, I wondered about bringing back 'the big one'. But these drivers did an amazing job going 2 laps 4 wide....well, almost 2 laps.

Tony did it. That's all. My real problem was a GWC at Talladega, and that's what made such a small error so destructive.

But what does a GWC have to do with it? There would have been a last lap regardless. What's the difference between a regular last lap and a GWC last lap? They would have raced like crazy either way. Should there just not of been a last lap? Should they have just ended the race 5 laps short after the McMurray wreck? Personally I prefer a GWC instead of watching the cars go to the finish line at pace car speed.

No last lap? Brent, are you having a seizure?

It's simple, if you think about it. If the yellow comes out with 10 to go like it did, don't have the cars roll around for 8 laps. Red flag it and do a restart with 10 to go so ....

1) Everyone is a little more patient.
2) The cars get spread out a bit.

If there is a wreck, it's less likely to involve half the field. That just isn't racing. If the yellow comes out with less than 5 - more than 1 to go, do a 4 lap shoot out and that's it.

I like this idea, and honestly G-W-C has caused more wrecks than was needed. I know Bowman Gray Stadium stop counting pace laps if it's 10 to go. So let's say the yellow comes out on lap 8, when they go back to green, it's still lap 8 (or seven).

Personally, I've always thought they should stop counting laps during yellows the last few laps. Varied based on the size of the track. Rather than force a GWC, all the races could end under green without the urgency.

Nope, no seizure. I just had no idea what it was that you were wanting.

I've always wished that they would red flag the race with so few laps to go. However, I don't think the size of the wreck would be any different had there been five laps left instead of two. The drivers go full out with roughly ten laps to go, so there'd still be all bunched up.

Do you have a link for that ? Did they pay Tony ?

I am not saying they paid Tony to cause the big one. I am saying that Nascar is doing everything in their power by rule changes to bring back pack racing so that the big one would return. The main reasons why Nascar changed the rules to bring back pack racing is:

1. Jr fans were complaining because all Jr did was push JJ to wins while tandem racing.
2. The non Jr fans were complaining that the tandem racing got rid of the "big one".

That is why Tony was complaining in that video. Nascar did everything in their power to make racing more dangerous by bringing back pack racing. I honestly think Nascar wants wrecked cars at plate races. They wont admit it, but they know the big one brings ratings.

If you're going to use my name at least get it right. Also, get your facts straight too. You've not heard me complain about Jr. pushing Jimmie Johnson to a win. My driver cam in third or fourth that day. That wasn't too bad with 8 drivers running side by side at the line. You have heard me complain about Jr. having to team up with Johnson when Johnson's plan is to run in the rear. I don't like that strategy and neither does the driver that I root for.

Sorry , but Jeffrey00 seems to think that Junior fans have done something to Nascar. Didn't mean to offend you.:(

That wreck is a perfect example of why pack "racing" sucks ass. One guy makes a mistake and 20 innocent cars pay for it. With any luck at all a meteor will descend and obliterate all traces of the Talladega Super Speedway.

And if it does, hopefully, a little shard of it will land afire in your lap.

Don't you think that the same thing could happen at Charlotte this weekend ,during a grren, white, checker?

kkfan91, this is usually where you'd get blamed for "bringing pesky facts" into the thread but somehow I don't see that happening this time ;)

Correct, all the freeking commentators could scream everytime a car stepped sideways was
"HERE'S THE BIG ONE''

NASCAR's biggest problem is that they tend to listen to the vocal few. We have to be careful what we ask for because they are listening. Fans complained about the tandem racing and wanted the pack back. They got it and we have what we had on Sunday.

When we saw the repave of both Daytona and Talladega we saw the birth of the tandem racing with the new found grip. I really think if they would have simply let it run its course we would have seen the racing evolve into something different as time went by. As the track looses grip over the years we would have started seeing separation among the cars again giving us more of what we were used to. The instant gratification mentality has given us what we are seeing today IMO.

I agree.I don't see why everyone is upset with Nascar for listening to the fans.

Are you happy that Nascar listened to the fans?

Nope . I am not in favor of changing Nascar back and forth like a ping pong ball at the whim of the fans . No other sport in the world has as many changes . It is just plain stupid. In fact , I doubt that any other sport has a fan council that makes it's rules.
