Someone threw a shoe on the track.
What the shoe caused the wreck?
So I have a question, why is Stewart and Jr. blaming the fans for Sunday's "Big One"?
.... Nascar wants to see "the big one" at all plate races.
well was/is he wrong. are we not pack racing again because Nascar wants to see "the big one" at all plate races.
When they enlarged the plate to make speeds higher and reduced the spoiler size, I wondered about bringing back 'the big one'. But these drivers did an amazing job going 2 laps 4 wide....well, almost 2 laps.
Tony did it. That's all. My real problem was a GWC at Talladega, and that's what made such a small error so destructive.
But what does a GWC have to do with it? There would have been a last lap regardless. What's the difference between a regular last lap and a GWC last lap? They would have raced like crazy either way. Should there just not of been a last lap? Should they have just ended the race 5 laps short after the McMurray wreck? Personally I prefer a GWC instead of watching the cars go to the finish line at pace car speed.
No last lap? Brent, are you having a seizure?
It's simple, if you think about it. If the yellow comes out with 10 to go like it did, don't have the cars roll around for 8 laps. Red flag it and do a restart with 10 to go so ....
1) Everyone is a little more patient.
2) The cars get spread out a bit.
If there is a wreck, it's less likely to involve half the field. That just isn't racing. If the yellow comes out with less than 5 - more than 1 to go, do a 4 lap shoot out and that's it.
Personally, I've always thought they should stop counting laps during yellows the last few laps. Varied based on the size of the track. Rather than force a GWC, all the races could end under green without the urgency.I like this idea, and honestly G-W-C has caused more wrecks than was needed. I know Bowman Gray Stadium stop counting pace laps if it's 10 to go. So let's say the yellow comes out on lap 8, when they go back to green, it's still lap 8 (or seven).

Do you have a link for that ? Did they pay Tony ?
The main reasons why Nascar changed the rules to bring back pack racing is:
1. Jr fans were complaining because all Jr did was push JJ to wins while tandem racing.
If you're going to use my name at least get it right. Also, get your facts straight too. You've not heard me complain about Jr. pushing Jimmie Johnson to a win. My driver cam in third or fourth that day. That wasn't too bad with 8 drivers running side by side at the line. You have heard me complain about Jr. having to team up with Johnson when Johnson's plan is to run in the rear. I don't like that strategy and neither does the driver that I root for.Kimmell!

And if it does, hopefully, a little shard of it will land afire in your lap. That wreck is a perfect example of why pack "racing" sucks ass. One guy makes a mistake and 20 innocent cars pay for it. With any luck at all a meteor will descend and obliterate all traces of the Talladega Super Speedway.

Don't you think that the same thing could happen at Charlotte this weekend ,during a grren, white, checker?

Not a problem. Forgot the smiley face. Jeffrey00's post is just another in a long line of generalization posts about JR fans that is BS IMO.Sorry , but Jeffrey00 seems to think that Junior fans have done something to Nascar. Didn't mean to offend you.

Not likely.
NASCAR's biggest problem is that they tend to listen to the vocal few. We have to be careful what we ask for because they are listening. Fans complained about the tandem racing and wanted the pack back. They got it and we have what we had on Sunday.
When we saw the repave of both Daytona and Talladega we saw the birth of the tandem racing with the new found grip. I really think if they would have simply let it run its course we would have seen the racing evolve into something different as time went by. As the track looses grip over the years we would have started seeing separation among the cars again giving us more of what we were used to. The instant gratification mentality has given us what we are seeing today IMO.
I agree.I don't see why everyone is upset with Nascar for listening to the fans.
Are you happy that Nascar listened to the fans?
