I'm not 100% positive but I think Kahn did take two...........or maybe none.  He was looking for track position no matter what.
Yes he took two, and that is the riskl these guys take by doing so. Two tires versus four tires will never win. [/b][/quote]
2 tires have won on many occasions, and other races will be won on 2 tires. GEEE #40 missed a shift after the Tony thing but nobody seemed to get into him. 2 vs 4 tires doesn't mean you can get into the back of someone. I this keeps up, everybody will think they can get away with it *cough* Robby Gordon *cough*

Have a Valium...I lost a bet.

I thought it was interesting that Mikey, who was lined up beside Kahne, said that Kahne was pulling away from him on the restart.
I thought it was interesting that Kenny pointed out that Mayfield was able to miss Marlin on the miss shift.
I thought it was interesting that Ray Evernham, admittedly he has a dog in this fight, said that he had studied every available film and there was only one conclusion. Jarrett, Kahne and Marlin were moving at roughly the same speed. Stewart was moving considerably faster than them.
I thought it was interesting hearing Tony whine that of course he wouldn't have done it on purpose as it could have taken him out as well. While true, what are the actual statistics of the car doing the punting being taken out? It is usually the next car in line; as the car being hit has to go up, hit the wall and then rebound back into traffic. Nearly every time the punter has gotten by and some poor slob not involved is the one caught up.
But, no let's let Tony drive aggressive. Take out any and everyone he wants. We wouldn't want to disappoint anyone by letting a "nice guy" who runs a "clean" race actually win. Would we?

NASCAR reaping what is has sown

By DAVID POOLE

The Charlotte Observer

Notes, musings and observations: Sunday was the first day of harvest for NASCAR.
It reaped a pit-road brawl between Kasey Kahne's and Tony Stewart's crews at Chicagoland Speedway after sewing seeds of doubt and frustration by its lack of decisive action against Stewart following an incident at Infineon Raceway.

By not suspending Stewart after his confrontation with Brian Vickers, NASCAR ducked the responsibility of keeping the controversial driver in line.

What message did that send?

"NASCAR refuses to do anything," said Ray Evernham, Kahne's car owner. "You got a guy that does this week in and week out and nobody's doing anything about it. I'd like to have ten minutes with Tony Stewart and handle it myself. ...He should have his (expletive) beat. That's the problem. Nobody has ever really grabbed him and given him a good beating. If he doesn't get suspended, maybe I'll do that."

When NASCAR gave Stewart only a meaningless fine, points deduction and probation in the Vickers incident, teams decided the people who keep saying they're "in control" of the sport lacked either the courage or the will to deal with Stewart.

If anything is to be done, the teams feel they're going to have to do it themselves. That's what led to the scuffle on Sunday. We now have a vigilante atmosphere directly fostered by NASCAR's jelly-kneed response to Stewart's previous outbursts.

NASCAR said if it felt Stewart had hit Kahne's car on purpose on a restart, leading to a wreck that may have ended Kahne's chances to make the Chase for the Championship, it would have penalized Stewart at that point.

Some of Stewart's crew may be fined for the brawl, but if anybody gets suspended over that it will be - and should be, by the way - Tommy Baldwin, Kahne's crew chief.

Baldwin went to Stewart's pit to confront crew chief Greg Zipadelli, bringing several of his crew members with him. Regardless of what he says his intent was, that action means Baldwin created the flashpoint for emotions by being somewhere he wasn't supposed to be. Under NASCAR rules he's responsible for the actions of his crew, too.

Stewart should have been suspended after the Vickers incident and Baldwin should sit out at least one race for what he did Sunday. But how in fairness can NASCAR come back and sit Baldwin down after not suspending Stewart?

NASCAR is caught in the cavern it created by caving and not sitting Stewart down when it should have.

All together. ...Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves. ...

Wish I'd written it.

I look at the whole deal this way...

1. I don't think Tony punted Kahne intentionally....HOWEVER
2. If Tony was that much faster on the restart...he would have been that much faster after the cars were up to speed...but moreso
3. the cars seemed to be slowing down because they were coming into turn one
4. tony may have just miscalculated when he got back in line behind the 9 car and neglected to slow for the turn
5. it was just a coincidence that it was kahne...they were both up front
6. incidents between tony and other drivers happen to front runners when tony is in the front (chicagoland) and between back runners when tony is toward the back (Sonoma)
7. there does seem to be a large amount of incident involving tony this year, but then again, if you look at the announcers and media...which tony has pointed out...you would think he was sacrificing children
8. can we stop with the Robby Gordon bashing? I don't bash anyone, why does everyone else do it and get away with it...very Dale Jr.

This poster called for and still calls for Tony's head over the incident between he and Vickers. Those cries were premature offered before the "facts" were in.
Did anyone really have a question about whether or not Tony got physical with Vickers ?? Once the analysis by NASCAR was complete and the penalty phase done, Tony Stewart still denied any wrongdoing.
To quote John Stossel, "give me a break "!!!!!

No need to dredge up incidents pre-2004 to justify the guilt or innocence of anyone. That was then and this is now.

The Khane deal was racing. It was not aggressive racing. It was "head up the butt" racing. It is a repeat of the same type of b.s. Stewart has pulled all year long. Look at the overall picture since Daytona. Dispute it. Prove Tony does not deserve to be villified by followers of the sport. Afterall, he has been the guy involved in more crashes and incidents than any single driver since the Daytona 500!!!!!! This is not covered under the label of "ship happens ".

Stewart fans who fail to understand the outrage are blind to the reality of the situation, aren't paying attention or don't understand the fruastration of the teams on the receiving end of his "aggressive" driving !!!!!

The fans who support Stewart and his "aggressive driving" blame everything and everyone with posts on this forum criticising every commentator on FOX and NBC. Stewart fans derisively respond to complaints of his driving with axioms like, "he had his foot on the brake", "others are biased", "it was racing", while in the aftermath there is a pile of torn up race cars. HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

On the other side of the coin, several of Tony's peers have offered negative comments on his driving this year. David Poole, a strong supporter and collaborator on a book with Tony, sees the problem. Not only does Poole see the problem, he understands the outrage !!! Now that is one person you might think would be biased !!!!!

No need to call for Tony's suspension on these driving incidents. The main thing is to get Tony Stewart's head out of his a$$ and into racing without being involved in some stupid, avoidable mishap every single week.

Excellent points

NASCAR has really opened up a can of worms by burying their heads in the sand when Tony acts out.

There is a lot of irony in penalizing and likely suspending someone who has had enough of Tony's crap, but turning the other way when he does the crap that ticks people off.

What a tangled web they are weaving. <_<

Update:

Baldwin fined, placed on probation for pit scuffle

Tommy Baldwin, crew chief for the No. 9 Dodges driven by Kasey Kahne was fined $10,000 for an incident that occurred this past weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.

Baldwin was fined $5,000 for being involved in an altercation in another Competitor’s pit area.

Baldwin also was fined $5,000 for the actions of his crew and placed on probation until Dec. 31, 2004.

Don't ya just love NASCAR? I sure do.

My driver has kept his nose pretty clean this year. Except for the whole Matt Kenseth deal, but i'm sure some of you would find reason to whine.

Yeh Kahne may have taken only gas to get track position, so what, that strategy is done all the time. Bottom line like many other posters have pointed out, Stewart needs to get his act together. If there is one more incident involving Tony where he is directly at fault and Nascar does not sit him, Nascars' credibility will be nill. I for one am pretty fed up with the way the season has unfolded, i'm getting sick of all the off track politics. I'm starting to believe that Home Depots' associate sponsor status in Nascar has come into play in this entire situation with Tony.

OMG!!!!! Ain't ya wore this thing out yet???? ROTFLMBO!!!!!

If the Judges rule it was a "no foul" situation",.
who are we to argue????

I am a Jeff Gordon fan, but this business of trying to
verbally crucify Tony is getting old.

He did a couple of bone-headed things at Daytona and Bristol.
So, now everytime he is involved ia a racin
deal, ya want him strung up????? Get a life!!!!
How many did Jr take out or run over at Sonoma?????
And nobody is screaming about that!!!!!

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeesch!!!!!!!!!

This will never wear out until Tony acts the way he should on the track and off. <_<

That is true. But we have really beat this chapter to death. We should just let it die and waite. Tony will wreck or spin someone else in two weeks.

Right on EMP...

Here's my take on calling a duck a duck....

On a restart with lapped traffic in front of you, you can't be thinking "ok, floor it and let's go!" Those cars are a lap down for a reason! They're slow...

That means you might want to use your head for at least the first Half a LAP.

This is what irks me most about Tony...he can always blame it on the "racin' is racin'", "accidents are bound to happen"....junk...

There is no doubt in anyone's mind that his car was the best car out there. You can't tell me you can't be smart enough to wait one lap to clear some cars!

Prove to us you are a better driver, don't just think it in your head....out-drive the competition.

Tony is simply a dangerous person because he has no respect for others. One day his 'rubbin is racin' bit is going to kill someone.
all the driver's in Tony's lane were lead lap cars.

Tony tucked back into line after passing Marlin, not wanting to be overly aggressive and go 3 wide into the corner.

Kasey got loose and we all know what happened after that

Its really going to hit the fan when Tony gets spun out. Its just a matter of time, then we will see how others take it. Being in the top 5 its going to hurt!

Kanhe Sucks on restarts plain and simple, oh yea it was pretty sweet to see kanhes crew get tooken out by stewarts crew. :partytime:

Yeh I'll let this go with 1 more comment:
Tony is really a good guy, but his actions on the track this year and in past years have proven his maturity level needs vast improving. I hope he straightens out for his sake and the sake of his fellow competitors. ;)
