Top 10 Cup Series drivers all time?

It would almost be more useful to do top 5 or 10 in each decade... at least then it would somewhat apples to apples.

Top 2 can change for me

1. Dale Earnhardt
2. Jimmie Johnson
3. David Pearson
4. Richard Petty
5. Jeff Gordon
6. Darrell Waltrip
7. Cale Yarborough
8. Tony Stewart
9. Bobby Allison
10. Bill Elliot..Kyle Busch I think will inevetiably contend for #10.. some day but no higher

there is always a trade off. In Petty's and Pearson's day they didn't have bulletproof cars like JJ and Gordon did either. They also weren't having to drive to their next race and run then having to run the next day or two and didn't have a perfect backup car on the hauler to pull off to run. Two entirely different eras and situations. Put Petty and Pearson in their prime in todays cars and JJ and Gordon in the 60's and 70's cars with the crews of the day and would they do anywhere near what they've done?

Kinda made me think but no. Petty and Pearson still had huge advantages on everyone else and less competition. Johnson and Gordon had advantages but WAY more competition, that's why they get my vote at the top:

Johnson
Gordon
Wendell Scott (that man not only had to beat the competition with inferior equipment, less help, and probably competitors racing him harder than anyone else, he had to compete with the sanctioning body. What kept that man coming back time after time with all that against you I cannot fathom. And fearless obviously. Not only of speed but a bunch of people that just hated you).
Pearson
Petty
Tim Richmond
Dale Earnhardt
Herb Thomas
Cale Yarbrough
Bobby Allison
Darrell Waltrip

Richard Petty
Dale Earnhardt Sr
David Pearson
Jimmie Johnson
Cale Yarborough
Jeff Gordon
Tim Richmond
Bobby Allison
Kyle Busch
Darrell Waltrip

I gave you a like on your post Ford 222 because of what you said about Wendell Scott...... you were spot-on........ most folks would have just given up and gone home...... Not Wendell...... and his family and friends backed him also......

He might not have been the ''best''...... but he for damned sure persevered against almost insurmountable odds........

I can't imagine what it was like for him every time he unloaded.
