Top 10 Worst Drivers in Nascar

That was Tony Raines and it was Texas Instruments DLP TV on the car. I forgot about that, but yeah it was Hall of Fame Racing and Troy Aikman was one of the owners.

Tony Raines is a heck of a nice guy and a pleasure to chat with. It was like talking to a buddy down at the coffee shop.

I agree.... he drove for a lot of different teams.... probably the most prominent was Richard Jackson.... he done well there.... maybe this off note but.... he also drove for Junie Donalevy...... that's what I miss so much today about the racing we used to see.... Junie was the stepping board to so many racers.... I can't even count how many up and coming drivers drove for Junie..... I was never so proud as when Junie got the Heilig Meyers Sponsorship!!!!!!!!!! That was moving into the Big Time for him!!! I still see a guy around town wearing one of those jackets......

Agreed!

Speaking of Donlavey, Dick Trickle was also one of the best to never win in Cup.

I think JJ Yeley may be the worst as he did the least with the most. I liked Harry Gant for many reasons but one of them was he did a lot with a little and when anyone does that it is easy to respect and admire. Anytime you see a driver with a top team that continues to under perform it is easy to start taking potshots and imagine scenarios where a better qualified driver would take over.

Guys like Means, Lake Speed, JD McDuffie, DaveMarcus and a few I know have forgot should not be on this list. These guys scratched and clawed there way to make a living in Cup racing at a time when guys like this could show up and Make a race.
Add Buddy Arrington to that list.

Man............ I really admired that fellow..... it was a very sad way that he had to leave this world...... I think about that so much....... these young guys think they are pressed for time and have no life.... yet are making millions and flying to races and living in million dollar motorhomes.... Dick raced more times than these guys could ever imagine.... He won more races over his lifetime than most ever raced..... more than likely over his lifetime of racing.... he never matched what 1 driver does now who finishes in the top 5.......

The Ragan effort of twenty some odd years ago never seemed to be much more than an expensive family hobby.

JJ Yeley
Hut Stricklin
Kenny Wallace
JD McDuffie
Kirk Shelmerdine
Casey Atwood
Reed Sorenson
Michael Waltrip
Rick Mast
David Gilliland

No particular order

I was going to say JJ Yeley.

I hate to say it, but Jason Leffler, who was a hell of a guy and a hell of a racer in a sprint car or midget just like Yeley, also failed pretty miserably with a similar opportunity in JGR equipment.

Both were a lesson that there was only one Tony Stewart.

Steven Wallace hands down the worst I ever saw. A true affliction to eyes that appreciate good driving, and he was worthy of an old testament stoning for being such a sorry driver.

Cody Coughlin
Danica Patrick
Michael Waltrip
Steve Wallace
Kevin Conway
Travis Pastrana

I don't think Pastrana was that bad IMHO.

You're talking about someone with hardly any experience in NASCAR and did a decent job, he had speed, but he was just too erratic.

Nascar scoring got Brett Bodine that win.

Nascar scoring got Harvick that Daytona 500 win over Mark Martin and Tony Stewart his win over Regan Smith at Talladega. Bummer on both counts from where I sit.

Robert Presley was a big dissapointment, his BGN resume was really strong, but a bust or flat in the cup series.

I remember Robert Presley had to apologize to the 33 team at one point as he blamed his early race exit on a blown engine instead of running out of talent. I think Presley is a good candidate as once Andy Petree secured the services of Kenny Schrader things got better.

From Pastrana’s farewell address:

"I hate to quit and I hate to fail, but sometimes things work out as they should," Pastrana said in his Facebook message. "I've never been able to figure out the finesse required in pavement racing and that is disappointing, but I'm looking forward to driving more rally and racing more off-road trucks and there will be some announcements on those fronts shortly."

It was posted a matter of a few days after Andy Petree told X Games fans not to worry, “he’s progressing.”

He has natural talent, the guy is extremely talented. He has a couple of issues though, his ego was always huge and he always expected to come in and win everything. Also, he struggled against harder competition and got fustrated easily. Look at his AMA record, he competed and win a ton in the 125 cc division. In the 250 class he struggled and did mightily and then he focused on freestyle for years.

He lacked focus and can drive hell out of everything, but he needed more time and I guess it was hurting his wallet staying in NASCAR. He even admitted he should have focused more on NASCAR, he has plenty of potential, but he has to be willing to commit.

Pastrana barely qualifies as a NASCAR driver. This game requires commitment and a 100% focus.

Thats what I said, he didn't place all of his eggs into one basket and that he was paying for that 60 car with his own money.

He needed sponsorship and remember Red Bull pulled out of NASCAR back in after the 2011 season, he has an endorsement with Red Bull as well, but they were not going to be a full on sponsor again after pulling out of NASCAR to focus on F1.

I think Pastrana was expecting sponsors to back him and they didn't . He sure peaked the interest of my grandson but it didn't work out for either one .They both left the sport .

Rick Mast doesn't belong on a worst drivers list. First polesitter at Indy. He should've won the 1994 AC Delco 500. Was dominating with a beat up race car on Hoosier tires. Goodyears were shorter on the long run, but lo and behold. DW brings the caution out with about 20 to go. Earnhardt had just enough speed on fresh tires to hold him off.

So one of my all time favorite drivers had 473 cup starts, never won, only 4 top 5 finishes, 2 poles and is currently 5th in most last place finishes. He has driven for a number of big teams and some of the smaller ones. BUT, I certainly would not consider Dave Blaney as one of the top 10 worst drivers in NASCAR. Sometimes numbers don't always give the whole picture.
Another one of my favorites had 305 starts with no wins, with the majority of his starts with Roush...but I also wouldn't consider Ted Musgrave as one of the top 10 worst drivers in NASCAR.

I think this is a pretty hard one to call.

kyle boooosh. While he's a good driver, when he's bad or pouting he's the worst. truck race under caution putting someone into the wall and getting suspended -- post race interviews-- his judgement gets cloudy when he's mad and that alone makes him the leading candidate for "worst driver" 2nd choice is Brian Vickers for taking out Dale Jr and JJ at Talladega 1st and 2nd place cars. yeah, team mates.

Jj yeley I think we have found the worst driver. Lots of names bantered about. But I think the real test is did they suck in top tier equipment? Jj fits

Robert was a terror on the short tracks. I remember reading that he was hated so much for winning, that he almost quit. I thought he'd be a star.

I think you are referring to Jerry Nadeu who drove the 13 for Dan Marino. Anyway, Jerry Nadeu was actually an above average driver before he got into a wreck that caused a major concussion. He still has symptoms today from what I understand. I think you can youtube him to see the latest.
Nah, cheesepuffs nailed it. It was Tony Raines I was trying to remember.

Danica
Jennifer Jo Cobb
Johanna Long
Amber Cope
Angela Cope
Milka Duno
Chrissy Wallace
Erin Crocker
Tammy Jo Kirk
Tina Gordon

You only wanted 10 , right ?
As long as you don't have Patti Moise, there may be room for discussion. However, most of those don't meet the '100 starts' criteria.
