Past full-time Cup drivers to win this race include Joey Logano (2011), Brian Vickers (2006), Mark Martin (1997), Rusty Wallace (1996), Dale Earnhardt (1995), Ernie Irvan (1992 and 1994), Geoff Bodine (1993), Davey Allison (1991), Rusty Wallace (1990), and Ricky Rudd (1989). Granted the series has a much different identity now than it did when it was the Winston West Series through 2003.

From Jayski...
  • Sonoma Goodyear Tire Notes: Teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will run the same Goodyear tire code on all four tire positions at Sonoma . . . this is the first time teams will be running this code, which came out of a Goodyear test at Sonoma on March 25-26 . . . teams and drivers participating in that test were #9-Marcos Ambrose, #14-Tony Stewart, #18-Kyle Busch, #24-Jeff Gordon and #55-Brian Vickers . . . compared to what was run at Sonoma last year, this tire features a compound change designed to give the cars more grip . . . as on all NASCAR road courses, teams will not run inner liners in their tires at Sonoma. While Goodyear will have wet weather tires at Road America for the Nationwide Series race, it will NOT be bringing its wet weather radials to Sonoma for the Sprint Cup Series race (Goodyear), see tire codes. pressures, set limits and more on the Sonoma Race Info page - Goodyear section.(6-20-2014)

Its Cali, they won't need rain tires :)

You seriously post the most informative cup standings on the internet. Haha

Thanks. It's something I came up with earlier in the season and have updated each week.

I'm thinkin' it'll be more meaningful as we get closer to the Richmond race and are able to see who's close to making the cut.

Still prefer to see the points in order of who has most points, rather than most wins.

If you're saying that you prefer that they did away with the gimmicky Chase format, so do I.

Not watching. #55 team has been pure crap for 3 races and its a road course and I dont think I could stand watching the #55 have four straight awful races.

I would watch if I were you, he's a good road racer and MWR has won the past 2 races here. Wouldn't be remotely surprised to see him in victory lane

Get back in the game Spike. Gotta take your medicine good or bad. Come on man!

Here's a fun fan-made video that was made last year showing some highlights from NASCAR's time visiting Sonoma.

We will be there on Sunday. Its a tradition for us. My son's first one at 2 1/2. Should be funny to see his reaction to the cars as they power down into turn 9 where our seats are. We might end up in turn 11 with the actual Save Mart corporate people. We had a hook up there last year. Its nice over there. Tents/TV/unlimited food and drinks from breakfast to lunch plus we were able to steal a golf cart and go anywhere we wanted. Ended up in the Miller Lite beer hauler over looking the track above turn 2 drinking a ton a of beer with people i didnt know at all.

Vickers has looked pretty bad the last few races but did test there back in March so he may have a slight edge plus MWR has run good there in recent years... as long as he stays clear of Smoke he should be okay

And folks talk crap about Kyle Busch racing his own trucks

Aint this Dillion & Larson's first time @ Sonoma?

Facts have nothing to do with it, they are stealing the little kids candy and ruining the series. Feeding their monstrous insatiable egos all the while

Maria Malina did a race weather forecast on Race Hub today. It was good.

Huge diff between a cup rookie racing to figure out a track they've never raced on and a cup vet racing on the same tracks just to fuel an ego.

was in downtown Sacramento today so I decided to stop off for the hauler parade. Kind weak turnout in regards to the haulers. Maybe 15 total. All the big names, but missing guys like Allmendinger, Kenseth, Hamlin, all the roush guys. All Stewart Haas cars. Just Hendrick, RCR, Ganassi, Penske and some of the fillers. Nice turnout of fans too. Sonoma raceway girls and Mrs. Sprint Cup are in good shape too.

Man, where is Jacques this year? I would be excited if he would race... Loved it when he would LITERALLY run through the field and the car would be half the length it orginally was when the race started.

Wow, that is a lot smaller group then they had in So Cal this year. All of the SHR haulers were there.

He's running in the World Rallycross Championship this year.

Yeah i saw the one in socal. The Sacramento parade has usually had good turnouts in the past, but for whatever reason it was short and sweet.

biggest reactions were for Kyle Busch(mostly Boo's), Jimmie, Gordon, JR and Kyle Larson which was expected as he is from the Sacramento area.
