Truex Staying put

And Bass Pro is increasing it's sponsorship, meaning Furniture row has more cash for something else. Like, I dunno, maybe a 2nd team?

Still surprised the deal is only 2 years, but I get it, the team is in transition. Truex will be one hot free agent in 2019 if it ever gets that far (it shouldn't).

Truex doesn't really have a resume for a top ride................................... yet

He's already in a top ride.

Last year was his first IMO and that is being generous considering the pit crew he had.
This year it is a different team, different parts and pieces and a new pit crew trained by JGR.
This resume is not ready to be sent out. IMO
I remember when he was team mates with Junior and he didn't stack up.

He's in his prime now and this Cole Pearn guy is the new "Chad knaus"

Which is why it's so surprising that this deal is only 2 years. Maybe TRD wants him in a full Gibbs car? The bigger question is, how long is Pearn under contract?

It's entirely normal that the term the sponsor commits to is the term of the driver's contract. Without Bass Pro dollars, the financial offer to Truex would have been a lot more meager. Barney Visser has been very open about that.

I'm sure Martin is not complaining. He and Furniture Row found themselves in an uncomfortable shotgun wedding in late 2013, and it has turned out better than either the driver or the team could have predicted. Martin's career had been more "journeyman" than anything else, and now he has had his best two years ever. And by all indications, he feels very much at home there. It's all good.

Yeah it seems like MWR folding turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Martin. At first it was like he had a take a demotion and step down to FRR just for a place to go. Now he's part of the best team in the business right now with a shop that's on the up and up and has a promising future.

Yeah, it will be interesting to compare MWR graduates in the 78 and 14 over the next couple of years to see who gets it done.

Maybe he can limp over to the 5. Apparently Harvick took a pass.

IDK about that as I think JJ and Chad had more wins last year than Truex has had in his career.

Probably but for whatever reason that car is out there leading more laps than all the other jgr cars and the rest of the field this year so they're doing something different. Personally I don't think that Truex is a better driver than probably three out of the four Gibbs drivers.

You can't call FRR a top team, imo. Slow pit stops and parts breaking aren't bad luck, they're the team's responsibility. So it's fair to say (if you believe) that Truex is a top tier driver (I don't) and that FRR is getting there.

Truex was another Casey Mears before he joined Furniture Row.

I think he is in the best place right now. I am sure sponsors will come that will increase his contract salary. I sure don;t blame Harvick for passing. IMO, HMS is not the top team anymore and they could soon be 3rd or fourth place on the ladder.

Hard to say that the 78 isn't a top team. For 2016 they have the most led laps, the 4th best qualifying avg, but they do struggle with closing the deal. Five drivers have more wins, and 10 or more have more top fives this year.

I think much like # 4, the best hardware is there. They both just need better late race execution, or less mistakes.
A few improvements, more like a few more minor tweaks could make either one of them this years champion.
