Up Coming Space-X Launch From Cape Canaveral

I've never really been a fan of Elon Musk but I sure hope this is successful. Astronauts Bob and Doug know what they signed up for but does Elon? Pretty obvious watching the interview that I just saw with him that he's carrying a great amount of weight on his shoulders today. Probably the first time in history that the ultimate responsibility lies with just one individual that can be identified with this launch.

I got to see the shuttle launch in 1983. The Sally Ride launch. It was from quite a distance away but I got to see it none the less. We were driving from Orlando in the direction of the launch. People were pulled off of the sides of the road to get out to witness history. Would have loved to have seen it up close.
 
I can't help but think of this pair every time they talk about these two astronauts.....

I saw every shuttle launch up to and including the challenger disaster from where I lived and now live. I went to the cape for one shuttle launch, stayed at the holiday inn across the bay from the launch site, could see the shuttle on the pad from my room, we walked outside to see it light up and get gone, really neat.

My favorite was the Saturn 5 Rockets last Moon shot, I was 8 miles away on a causeway when they finally lite that candle, talk about a holy crap moment, that was something else to see at 1:30AM in the morning. The Saturn 5 Rocket has not been topped yet, badass to the bone. Just think all that was done with slide rules.
Shame they could not or would not bring back the Saturn 5 rocket after the shuttle was scuttled. Just the second stage of a Saturn 5 could easily put items in low earth orbit.

Seems like SOP for our space folks to get rid of a system just when they get all the bugs out and working fine and safe, go figure.

Back in the 60's I saw numerous rockets destroyed after takeoff due to malfunctions. The exotic fuels the used always left a weird after color in the sky for a long time.
 
No go today, today's mission scrubbed. Due to weather and the fact they had a set window time to launch with no wiggle room, it was 4:33 or no go.

Next Launch try this Saturday.
 
30 miles away, it’s been ****** weather all day. Was expecting this scrub, hopefully things can be turned around Saturday. That’s a more optimal viewing time anyways.
 
Back in 2014 my son and I went to the 24 hr of Daytona. Either Thurs or Fri nite
we went to Cape Canaveral to watch an Atlas rocket launch. We splurged on a paid
touresty bus ride to the Cape to get a better view. Was an awesome vacation. Been a space
nerd all my life since clipping the Apollo flights in the 70's. Hope we get off the ground Sat.

From the Earth to the Moon in the HBO archives is a great docudrama on Apollo. Got around to putting together a huge LEGO Saturn V earlier during quarantine too. Amazing rocket.

That is so awesome. Got to see the Saturn rocket at the Huntsville Space center, Truly amazing.
 
Launch a success with first stage separation! Congratulations to SpaceX I'll be the first to admit I didn't trust private space flight companies but they seem to have pulled this off perfectly.:salute:
