From Jayski:

Army to leave NASCAR as sponsor after 2012 season: The U.S. Army has decided not to renew its sponsorship with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) in 2013 as a primary sponsor of the #39 Chevy driven by Ryan Newman due to a reallocation of its marketing budget that will not include a presence in NASCAR. SHR is actively pursuing a strong brand to partner with the team and its roster of sponsors that also includes Office Depot, Mobil 1, Quicken Loans, GoDaddy.com, Haas Automation, Chevrolet, WIX Filters, Outback Steakhouse, Aspen Dental, Tornados, Coca-Cola, Oreo, Ritz, Bass Pro Shops and Code 3 Associates.
Brett Frood, Executive Vice President, Stewart-Haas Racing: "The U.S. Army has been a great partner of Stewart-Haas Racing since the team's inception. It has been a mutually beneficial relationship, with the U.S. Army introducing training regimens that improved our pit crews while instilling the mental, physical and emotional strength of the U.S. Army Soldier in all of us. We remain very proud of our representation of the U.S. Army and its brave Soldiers who are 100 percent committed to our country. We will continue to activate on behalf of the U.S. Army for the rest of 2012, while also growing our other dynamic partnerships at Stewart-Haas Racing for the future."
John Myers, Director, Marketing Support Element, Army Marketing and Research Group: "The U.S. Army has worked with Stewart-Haas Racing in a mutually beneficial and highly successful relationship for the past four seasons, and they've performed superbly as our partner on and off the track. The same can be said of other members of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series family we have sponsored during the past 10 seasons. The sport, our drivers and the passionate NASCAR fans embraced the Army's participation and created a tremendous opportunity for Americans to learn more about the profession of the Army Strong Soldier."(SHR)(7-10-2012)

Matt and Home Depot to SHR!

LAGano and Nuuuuman to fight for Penske ride.

Remember you read it here first folks. Unless I'm wrong. Then forget as quickly as possible.

This would be awesome. I'd like to root for Home Depot car more. I've tried to like Logano and just can't really bring myself to root for the guy. Throw Kenseth in the Home Depot car and I would be thrilled.

I wonder if this is the end of Newman at SHR. If it is, where will he go? Could he go back to Penske regardless if AJ is cleared of any wrongdoing? All things that will be discussed on forthcoming NASCAR broadcasts.

Tony has already said he'd love to have Ryan back and are trying everything they can. However, only if they have to right sponsorship in place and that Ryan was free to look around if he wanted to.

With Kurt gone from Penske I could see Ryan heading back there, but Keslowski can be just as big of a head ache. So who knows.

How do you mean?

From reporter Dustin Long.....

Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Mn) tells me she's glad the Army won't be a NASCAR sponsor after this year. She tells me:

“This program was not effective, so by eliminating a wasteful program, they’re protecting taxpayer dollars and they can refocus those dollars on recruiting efforts that bring in well-qualified recruits to keep our Army strong,'' she said.

“The Army now joins the Navy and the Marine Corps in pulling out of NASCAR as far as sponsorships go. Now I’d like to see, as they haven’t been able to show us any numbers that any of these sports sponsorships work, that we bring an end to the sports sponsorships and that the armed services focus on how we retain and recruit the best and the brightest to serve in our military.’’

Newman stays at SHR and National Guard will announce they are dropping out next.

It is no secret that Brad thinks very highly of himself and hasn't always had the best track record with other drivers. Not saying he is Busch bad, but he is not saint.

I can't say I agree with any of that. When it comes to new drivers creating friction in the garage, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick fit the bill too.

I agree and I am not denying any of that. If anything it goes along with what I am saying. There are many drivers who don't like Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick. There was a time when Stewart, Gordon, and Johnson weren't very liked.

Newman would marry Tony is he would say yes, but Newman wouldn't sit out the season to avoid working with Brad. No way. There was a time when drivers could pick and choose their ride, but no more.

I haven't heard anything about another top ride opening up. Perhaps Roush.

Roush has already committed to Stenhouse in the 17 and has stated he wants Bayne in a full time Cup ride if he can.

Well as many people has suggested if Newman leave SHR it is because of Matt. If Newman doesn't go to Penske then maybe that opens up for JLo. There maybe an open spot for Newman at JGR. Or MWR, or RCR. You never know.

This is shaping up to be one wild silly season. I would like to see marginal veterans like Newman go away so new blood can get a shot.

I would agree if only there was enough new blood worth a shot. Honestly I think Stenhouse is the only one in NNS that deserves a shot right now. Bayne, Danica, Allgier, Dillion, and the like aren't ready. Although as I'd like to see Hornish back in Cup full time, I'd still like to see him in NNS for another season and why get rid of Newman to move Sadler back into Cup. So to me the only right candidate would be Stenhouse and he is getting his shot.

I worded that badly. I would like to see Vickers get another top ride for 2 years, or Regan Smith rather than Newman. Some of the drivers in the top cars are stale and over the hill. I would rather see guys like Bayne, Dillon, Whitt, Beuscher etc in some of those cars. Watching Burton, Newman, Menard and some others tool around in a top ride is getting old. Keselowski is the only hot new driver in the sport the last 5 or 6 years.

Newman stays with Tony, Home depot walks over and splits both cars for 1/4 season each. The whole 20 team at JGR vanishes.

Logano goes to RCR as a seat warmer for one of the Dillons on a 1 year contract, Kenseth goes to Penske

Noone has mentioned Truex , has he resigned? Ryan or Vickers would fit in there too.

Logano is going nowhere, Gibbs has already talked about extension for Hamlin and Logano. A fourth Gibbs makes no sense, so I am guessing the Kenseth rumors were just that. That means Kenseth to SHR, I would say Bass Pro?

I'm thinking that JGR is just trying to gain sponsorship for Logano and make it a two for one announcement. I don't think they are ready to announce Kenseth's addition to the lineup until they can answer questions about the Logano situation as well.

It would save Logano some grief with the media speculating about his demise. Joey has too much talent and upside to go away, he just couldn't live up to the hype.

Army to return to NHRA Army officials are in the process of signing a contract extension with Don Schumacher Racing through 2013 to continue the long-running sponsorship of the Top Fuel dragster for seven-time NHRA champion Tony Schumacher. "That's our intent," said John Myers, director of marketing support for the Army Marketing and Research Group. "The NHRA is a valuable part of our motorsports outreach portfolio. We are working on an agreement through 2013. The NHRA gives us a great return on our investment."(ESPN)(7-11-2012)

They probably staying in NHRA because the ARMY car there WINS races,

They can sponsor a TF car for a fraction of the money that they have to spend for a Cup car, and Tony does an awesome job representing the Army, on and off the track. But, Nascar does reach a lot more viewing audience.

If they don't line up a back up plan for Joey , it will look like he has been fired from the 20 car . Thus the need for a dual announcement .

Thanks, but we figured that out already. I'm still not 100% sold that Kenseth would take a step down in performance by going to Toyota while their engines are low performing grenades. As far as Jack is concerned, Chevy could be the dark side too.

Did I miss a meetin?
