With no NNS race the next two weeks, JGR has time to find replacement for Vickers for the No. 20 NNS car.

Brian Vickers To Miss Remainder Of 2013 Season
CORNELIUS, N.C. – Michael Waltrip Racing learned today that Brian Vickers is not available to race for the remainder of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season due to health issues.

Vickers said Dr. William Downey has placed him on blood thinning medication after a Monday morning examination on his right leg discovered a small blood clot in his calf region.

The medications will keep Vickers out of the No. 55 Aaron’s Toyota the remainder of the season, effective immediately. Vickers said his physicians are confident he will be able to resume activity before the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup season begins.

“If there’s anything to be positive about with today’s news it’s that this is only a temporary setback,” said Vickers. “The timing for this is never good, but I’m glad we’ll get it out of the way now and be ready to run for a championship with the Aaron’s Dream Machine in 2014.”

“We were just informed this morning and our concern is for Brian’s health,” said MWR co-owner Rob Kauffman. “Anything else will be worked out in due course.”

As previously announced, two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip will drive the No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend.

A replacement driver for the remaining events will be named later.

In 22 races with MWR in 2012 and 2013, Vickers owns five top-five and 10 top-10 finishes including a victory on July 14 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Terrible news. I wonder if his physiology might just be incompatible with being a racecar driver. Some people are prone to clotting and can't be seated for long periods of time and/or need to be on blood thinners regularly. But you can't race on blood thinners and sitting for long periods at a time is part of the job requirement.

Feel bad for the guy. His body might just be incompatible with his passion.

And, of course, this happened right as MWR scaled down to 2 teams. He was supposed to be one of their 2 drivers next year. When it rains, it pours.

The rumor is Vickers will have Warfarin as a sponsor on the car next year. :D

that can kill ya dead real quick...I think that is what Captain Phil had. Vicker's is saying he is going to be alright to race. I don't think until they figure out a way he can race and not get clots he is alright to race. My dad had to take blood thinners the rest of his life and any little nick would bleed for hours. He has a big wreck and he could bleed out before they got him to the hospital.

What a bummer, can't catch a break

Gotta be heart breaking for him. Something totally outta his control. Hope he gets better & stays optimistic

Not sure is totally out of his control.

Like StoneTown said, sitting in a car for the better part of a year days in and days out takes a toll on your body, specially if you have had a history with said afflictions.

Very sad.

My guess is that he will continue to have issues with this as long as he races for the long term. Sucks for Vickers.

There has got be some method to deal with the clots.. maybe some type of workout routine or something

The sadly ironic thing is there is a treatment, and it's that treatment that's keeping him out of the car -- take blood thinners. The treatment that is saving his life is keeping him from racing.

might be this, deep vein thrombosis
DVT is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, usually in a calf or thigh muscle. DVT can partly or completely block blood flow, causing chronic pain and swelling. It may damage valves in blood vessels, making it difficult for you to get around. A blood clot can also break free and travel through your blood to major organs, such as your lungs or heart. There, it can cause damage and even death within hours.

That actually isn't a bad idea. Charlie Kimball in IndyCar is diabetic and has Novo Nordisk insulin epi-pens as a sponsor. During his first Indy 500 they made a big deal about if he had a diabetic attack during the race he would pull into the pits and a crew guy would inject him in the leg! It is moderately sleazy to use a medical condition to get a sponsor but I'm sure MWR would take what they can get.

Following surgery many wake up to find they're wearing knee high elastic stockings intended to prevent DVT. That may be a option for getting him back in a race car.

If he HAS to stay outta the car I'd hope he finds a way to still be involved in racing. Whether it be in the booth, operating a team or within an organization, running a camp for racing youngsters, etc..

Sucks for Vickers. He can't seem to catch a break. Hopefully he will be ready to go for the start of the 2014 season.

I don't think you will see Vickers back . From a sponsor point of view , an insurance point of view and from his own health and family point of view , there is no upside. (unless a cure is found PDQ)

Sad but probably true.

Aww man, this really sucks. I was looking forward to seeing him race next year and then this.

I REALLY hope this never pops up again for him and he actually can race in 2014. Even more so, I hope Waltrip isnt a jackass and fires him because of the liability.

I could see MWR switching Truex to the Aarons 55 next year if this drags on like last time.

Truex signed with the 78

I think that's great for the 78 team . Another quality driver (hopefully in it for the long term). This should be a great match with no drama . Oh , and he would like to get back into Nationwide , part time , the sky will surely fall. :)

I missed that too.

Is there a link?
from Jayski...

UPDATE: Martin Truex Jr. has agreed to drive the #78 Furniture Row Chevrolet in 2014. Sources say the parties came to terms on Wednesday night. A formal announcement is expected next Tuesday. In his eighth year as a full-time Sprint Cup driver, Truex has spent the past four seasons driving the #56 NAPA Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing. However, MWRs manipulation of the outcome of the Sept. 7 race at Richmond International Raceway and subsequent sanctions from NASCAR resulted in Truexs disqualification from the Chase for the Sprint Cup and NAPAs decision to part ways with the organization at the end of the season.(A HREF="http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/sto...eam-2014-leaves-michael-waltrip-racing-101613">Fox Sports)(10-17-2013)

sa'll good yo.. maybe he can cop a better ride next year thats op

There should be a lot of young guns trying to buy into that ride for the rest of the season . I wouldn't be surprised if that situation doesn't change .
