Vickers out the rest of the year

First of all, I hope that Brian recovers completely. I am no doctor but at the risk of stirring up a hornet's nest, I have heard of studies linking his former sponsor (Red Bull) to causing blood clots (or least increasing the probability of them). At the time of his first clot problems several years ago, Red Bull was indeed his sponsor so he was almost certainly consuming their product. To my knowledge, none of this has been proven however so you can take it for whatever it's worth.

In any case, energy drinks are huge sponsors and NASCAR would take a major hit if they ever went away. Personally, I never touch the swill.

If memory serves , we discussed that at length when Brian was first diagnosed . Don't think we know if Brian ever used the stuff . To me , the new big story is that this illness doesn't appear to be going away ....ever . I'd like to hear some medical opinions on that.

I agree. Whenever someone says that "so and so" will be back next season after an illness or injury that has recurred, I always take that with a grain of salt. I hope he CAN come back next year and thereafter but if this is going to be an ongoing problem, it's probably possible that he won't. Are there any doctors reading this board?

As an aside, I can't remember a silly season in a long time where there have been so many decent cup rides either coming available or possibly coming available either for cup drivers wanting to make a change or for NNS drivers wanting to move up to cup. And that's even WITH MWR dropping down to 2 cars.

Denny Hamlin will drive the #20 Nationwide car at Texas while Drew Herring will drive it at Phoenix and Homestead.

Denny is really good in a Nationwide car. Whole lot better than Vickers.. Ol man Gibbs has been packing the field in N'wide for years. I am not surprised he pulls in an active cup driver, but Herring is a surprise, he only has Herring and Wallace that aren't cup or x cup drivers on the roster..

Denny's first NW start all season huh? Wonder why he didnt have any others. Boo for cup drivers in NW though, yay for Herring.

Brain said the that had a foot sprain after Bristol & wore a boot. The boot caused a restriction of blood & eventually developed a clot. Tough break dude

Head's up for those of you with NASCAR Radio. Brian Vickers is coming up shortly on Trading Paint to give an update on his condition.

He said that he fully expects to be back in the car full time next season. He stated that he is on some sort of different medication than he was the last time. I didn't catch the name. Still not allowed in the car.

Said that the latest bout with the blood clots was due to an injury he suffered at Bristol, forcing him to where a 'boot' on one of his feet/ankles. The immobility was a factor in the latest clot in his calf.

Attention Jeff Burton , ....Don't let the Hall of Fame have your drivers suit yet ! You may be needing it in two months time. Just sayin :)
