Was the Truck race that bad?

I don't know what to say, KG. Opinions are like a-holes, I guess. I thought the Truck race was quite entertaining. You didn't. I think that Plate Races are a joke. You prolly love them, seeing as how you like big scary crashes and all.

And as far as the giving 100% thing, I would tend to agree with that in a 500 mile race at a track like Michigan or Fontucky (which are now all 400 milers, I believe) or maybe even INDY and/or Pocono that most drivers rest occasionally during the middle stages. But in the case of a 175 lap sprint race (not Sprint Cup) on a 1-mile oval, as the Truck Race was, I seriously doubt that any of these athletes were loafing.

BTW, I have been watching NASCAR since before many on this forum were even born! ;)

How about I agree that you probably agree that on this particular race we agree to disagree... agreed? :D

As for your last statement, sounds like you have a few years on me. I've been a race fan my whole life (I'm 41 now). I was just a teenager when my Dad gave me a copy of Smokey Yunik's book. Now there is a name you don't hear that often anymore, but I guarantee you know all about him.

Agreed!

My dad used to take me to ASCOT, the famous old one-mile clay oval in Gardena to watch jalopies and destruction derbies and TT motorcycle races when I was a kid of 6 or 7. I attended my first real NASCAR race at Riverside Raceway in '67 while in Junior HS.

And yeah, the "Best Damn Garage" is infamous!

All but 3 races in the CWTS have been won by Kyle or Kevin. BOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG

I think Kevin and Kyle should be charging the other drivers a fee for teaching them how to become a great driver.

Still waiting for some pesky facts to back up you statement:owquitit:

Agreed!

I grew up in Torrance and went to an untold amount of races at Ascot. On the nights we didn't go we could hear the roar of the engines from our house. I even raced BMX at Ascot. Worked the track as a flagman a few times too. Was a major blow to me when it closed down as I was really close to buying a car and racing there.

You might get a laugh out of this... my Mom used to say "I feel like crummy hamburgers for dinner tonight." That was her way of saying "Let's go to Ascot!" Best words I ever heard (and the burgers weren't really crummy, just an inside joke among us). I think I still have a couple of Ascot T-shirts.

As you probably know the track sat dormant for years after it closed. We used to sneak in there and ride our quads on the track. I think the last time I rode there was 1997.

I never got to see a NASCAR race at Riverside, but we always used to go to the Mickey Thompson off-road races there and I saw a few road course races there (non-NASCAR).

Great Story, KG! Where do you live now?

My Dad and his Brother ran a wrecking yard right across the street from ASCOT when I was a kid. I used to run around the place on weekends. I can still recall the aroma! It's one of my favorite smells.

Now I live in Mesa, AZ (near Phoenix). Been here about 9 years now. I love it. Grew up in So Cal and don't miss it one bit.

I've done the "ride-along" at both CA Speedway and PIR and I can tell you the G-forces at CA were way, way, WAY more than PIR. At CA I was literally amazed that the tires could hold that amount of G-forces. We were only doing 130mph and it felt like we could hit the wall at any second. I wasn't scared, I was excited! Then I did the ride-along at PIR and I yawned. Compared to CA it was a big disappointment. The g-forces were way less, maybe half as much.
